Our first activity for EDU3202 was sound story, where we tell a story by using only sounds produced with our mouth. I had a really hard time with this activity compared to my other group members because my sound producing skills are extremely limited let alone my story telling skills. However, we managed to come up with a story my focusing on sounds that we can actually produce. Lee is gifted with this sound making skill as he was able to produce more sounds compared to any of us in the group. in the end we decided to tell a story about a dog involved in an accident. Hoe-Yi came out with the idea and we all contributed as we practiced. Amazingly, the story developed on its own. On the downside, telling a story using only vocal sounds can be a bit tricky as my group experienced when my class interpreted the story with a different version compared to our original idea. It made us realize that their version did make sense too, based on the sounds we produced. On my part, I think I learned that this lesson will be able to help me in my future teaching as it was really fun and simple. I have to admit I never considered this activity at all. The activity for me is a slightly difficult but i think it is manageable. A lesson with more action than theory is pleasurable to me. I am looking forward to an enjoyable and educating semester.

First of all, I would like to say that I really enjoying your class, EDU 3202. There is lots of fun activity coming onward. For the first activity, you ask us to produce a story based on sounds. It was such an interesting activity. The idea to get the story based on sound is spontaneously come for our group. One of our group members get the idea and discuss the story with us. We proceed the story line and used her idea during the performance. The story was about a man who cheated on his wife/girlfriend with flirting with other girl at a park. But then his wife/girlfriend out of nowhere saw both of them and slapped her husband/boyfriend. The sound of talking like “bla..bla..bla…”, sound of cat like “meow..meow..” and sound of man sell ice-cream such as “kling..kling..kling..” was produce to create the environment based on the story line. Different sound might convey different things. That is why, the sound have to be clear to be heard to make the other people easy to interpret what the sound is. We really enjoying doing the performance as a group because we work as a team and all of us give the good co-operation. Apart of doing a performance, I realize that it is important to work in a group with good relationship. So, everything might go flow.

In our previous class, we were assigned to create a story using sounds only. The sounds should be from our mouths and we exactly cannot produce sounds through any other forms whether sounds from hands movements or any parts of body. Just from articulation and vocal cord. So here, my group has created a storyline which is quite interesting and easy to let our friends guessed what is the story all about. Puan Ju had asked us to turn into another side when there are any groups performing their sounds backward. The rational is, when we were not looking at the people who produced the sounds, automatically we will focus on the sounds to guess what the story is. We have to close our eyes to maximize our attention to the story. We have learned how to identify the sound and try to guess the story as accurate as we can. That can test our ability in identifying sounds.

The sound practice that we had to do last Wednesday was really embarrassing at first I thought. Due to the venue which is open air location, it is really hard for me to do something like that. The night we practice is the day that I realize that everyone are really talented with sounds and ideas keep pouring out from our mouth but each idea we all suggested are so funny and we spend most of the time laughing on stupid mistakes and tried many times to get the right sound. Other than that, we even worry about the clothes that we are going to wear. Finally, me, Jolyne and Lee Siam decide to wear our college shirt. It was tough but with Lee Siam’s contribution most of the part, we manage to complete this mission…hehe..It’s faezah’s idea

I think first it would be noisy if the whole class keep practicing the sound they want while the pros would be the students will be able to know that sometimes to understand something; there is no need action but only sound. I also found out that there are many different interpretations will be guess by just a single sound. For instance, my group only has chicken cocking but there is some answered cow. Back to the pros and cons, the pros also enable students to interact with each other especially those who do not talk to each other.

Another con would be students’ interest. In my opinion, students who dislike having outdoor or interaction activity will dislike or lose interest in the subject. I think in Form 1 or 2 classrooms will be interested with this kind of activity because they are new students in secondary school. This sound method is a good idea to introduce literature of secondary school to them because it allows them to have fun to experiment and create sounds with their creativity; also can avoid students to have the typical class environment like teachers doing that method of ‘explaining’ and ‘asking’. Other than that, students will be able to understand the text better and can express different elements of literature with their own understanding.

Response for the Sound Story

I found out that sound story is an interesting activity. I was waiting for this activity that day, as I felt that our performance is quit special and ‘unique’. Our story is about a die hard durian fan, who is eating durian until she is too full and she drinks Eno to release all the gas inside her. Most of our classmates are doing story like war and woman giving birth. The best performance group for me is Jolyne’s group and their sound are quit related to the story and the story is interesting too. I might will use this activity in my class in the future, so that my students would realize that different people will have different interpretation on certain sound. This can give a message to my students that different people have different thinking or interpretation in the same thing.

Sound structure is the first activity that we did in order to get ready for our theater that will be done in the end of the semester. We were asked to create sounds to represent our story. No words were allowed. For my group, we were doing a story about a farmer slaughtering chickens in the farm. We have decided to create the sound of chicken as the major sound and other sounds like the sound of footsteps and so on. I find this activity as interesting in a way that it needed us to be creative in order to produce sounds that symbolize any kind of things that represents our story. This is not a simple task because we need to make other people to be able to guess what is actually happen. I would say that this sort of activity enable the students to think creatively and at the same time put 100% cooperation in performing their idea. Not only that, it involves all the students to practice listening to the sound and make a good guess about what they have listen to. Students tend to not paying their attention to what teacher do in front. As a result, they will either do their own work or making noise. Therefore, this kind of activity is a good way to make them focus and be serious in what they are doing. The activity is not only involving their cognitive ability but also moral values behind it. Students must be alert so that they can predict the sounds done by their friends. Again, students were taught to become more aware of the information that they listen to. As a conclusion, the sound structure activity is a beneficial activity for students.

On 9th July 2008, we were required to create a story using sounds produced by mouth only. This activity is called the ‘Sound Story’. At first, I felt that it was kind of a weird activity which I have not done before. While you were explaining about the activity, or specifically what we are supposed to do, I started to think that “OK, I can do it. It sounds interesting’. Later that evening, when our group members met, we came up with the ideas of the story that we were going to perform. It was about a village being attacked by terrorists. So, we started to determine what sounds would be appropriate to describe the story and who will make those sounds. Before we practice making those sounds, I was quite shy to do it as I had never done this kind of activity before. Moreover, I was not sure whether I can produce those sounds or not with my mouth. .I was quite hesitated on the first few practices. However, after a while, I got used to it and I was more confident in doing it.
On the day of the performance, we were the 7th group to perform. Having to listen to other groups’ performance gave me a little clue about this activity. It was fun having to listen carefully and then guessing the story line of other groups. It sharpens our listening skill I shall say. I enjoyed their performances very much. Before I forget, before the performances started, we were having some breathing practices guided by you. I have learnt something from that. We need to practice the right breathing technique in order to project louder voice. I never knew that before.

Back to the performance, when it came to our group’s turn, I was kind of nervous a little bit. However, thankfully, everything went well and I did it! Our friends managed to guess the story line and it was really a relief.

What do I get from this activity? Well, it boosted my self-confidence to be in front of people of course, even though our friends and you were not actually looking at us during our performance. Other than that, this kind of activity encourages teamwork between members of the group which is a very important skill in daily life. I am really looking forward for the next performance, ‘Rhythm and Movements’.

Last Wednesday, me and my group; Se7en Wanders, had assigned a task by Pn. Juridah. It was about how to project a sound without saying a word. This activity was very interesting because we had never done this before. For the purpose of this assignment, all of us had created a sound how a person ate a durian, and then he had a stomach ache, burping and farting after he finished eating, entitled When Durian Meets Eno. It was very funny because all of my course mates have to think on what we were producing at that time. Besides us, other of my friends also presented their sounds too. In my opinion, the very best performance during that day was Lee Yuen Thien’s group. They were so energetic and produced the sounds clearly until all of us fascinated with them. As for me, this kind of activity can help us so much especially when we are going to perform a theatre soon.

We are assigned by Pn. Juridah to make sequence of sounds on our first week task ant it was to be presented in front of the class. It was fun yet a challenging task for us to make out a storyline out from the sequence of sounds. After discussing with all of our group members we decided to make a sound story entitled “When Durian Meets Eno.”. It quite hard to produce the sound, however, after series of practices we masters each sounds brilliantly. The sounds are quite ambiguous and it can be interpreted into something else if it is not listened carefully. It was not a surprise as nobody able to predict what sounds we produced and most them makes wrong interpretation on our sounds production. Nevertheless, Min Hui answers are almost correct, but still somehow we have to give hints to help our course mates in guessing the correct answers.

On the day of performance, I am very tense and I also can feel the tension in the air as Pn. Ju gave us times for us to rehearse before it is presented in front of the class. I am a bit embarrassed seeing a few of unexpected audience watching each group presenting as it was presented outdoor. Another thing that I learn is that we need to know a good breathing technique in order to project a loud voice projection. Before this, I never know that body posture is very important in voice projection. After the warm out session, all the groups present their sound with the audience not facing them. One of the interesting sounds storyline is a story produced by Faezah’s group on the food processing from a raw chicken fresh from farm to a delightful Chicken Rice in Chicken Rice shop. Loads of animal sounds are produced by that group that had make them so special to me.

It was a lot of amazing sounds storyline produced by other groups and it makes me wonder for a moment on how blind people see the world through their hearing senses. To be able to put myself in their in their shoes make me feel grateful with the ability to see this colorful world of god creation through my eyes. In short, it’s a one of a good way to let ourselves to be more creative and I really enjoy this activity. Can’t wait for the next task to come!

I was so excited in our previous second class performance. The task given was to dance and each group has to perform their own dance no matter what songs. For our group, we chose “Happy, Sexy, Cheeky” as our tagline to attract friends’ attention and to stimulate their interest in our performance. We are using 3 songs for the performance. There are “Hey Ya” by Outcast, “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Jessica Simpsons and “Numa Numa” by Ozone. I really enjoyed these songs because they can make me feel like moving and shaking my body! Wow! We are also using some props such as hats to show cowboy style in dancing for song, “These Boots Are Made for Walking”. This song was awakening everybody in our class just because it was a very sexy and naughty song and I was so impressed as my course mates open their eyes widely as we start moving our body. One thing that I did not satisfy is when we were dancing, my hat was flown by wind and it fell onto the floor. But, never mind. I continued my dance steps and I tried to find a suitable gap to take my hat back. Overall, I was satisfied with our performance because we have planned everything but if some mistakes did happen, it was just out of our expectation. So I appreciate all my group members…

One of the good things I found in Sound Activity is that this activity is the good way on how to train our senses. In this activity, a lot of things involved like creativity, thinking and listening. We need skills like Creativity to create a story by using the sound productions, thinking and guessing what is the story behind all those combinations and sequence of sounds and the most important part is how you listen well in order to guess the story. When all this skills combine together, here we go....the answer and plus, you will enjoy this activity very much. Next time when you hear your neighbor screaming, it does not mean she is screaming for help.

The next task that we all have to do is rhythm and movement. This time around we need to think of a dance that represents our group’s identity. The dance stuff suddenly reminds me of our ex-member or late Syakira. If she is still around she will definitely be our choreographer because she is very good in dancing. Unfortunately, she left us at the time where we really need her to be by our side. But it will not stop us from giving our 100% effort for this task. In the end we decided to dance a catchy and hip hop song by our favourite boy band, Big Bang “Last Farewell” and Dong Bang Shin Gi “Balloon”. I never deny that my whole body is aching. Despite of all that, I think the task is very interesting in a way that it help us to form a movement based on the song that we choose by considering the synchronize movement of all members. This is the crucial part where we need to cooperate with each other. Form what I see the entire group really work hard for this task. I cannot deny that we all do enjoy the task. We all get a chance to cheer for each other which I think a cool thing to do. In school, I think if this kind of activity is given to the students, they’ll sure enjoy it just like what me and my group members feel. In other words, it is another way to avoid the typical classroom environment that is sometimes boring due to the normal routine. At the same time, it gives the students chance to think of their own choreography. They can come up with their own ideas which is a good thing to do as they will be able to develop their creativity. Not to forget, the rhythm and movement task indirectly help the students in maintaining their health because the task requires them to move their whole body. It is different from the normal task where the students only sit in the class and just listen to their teacher explaining in front. The students at least once in a while are able to do something different and enjoyable.

Our first assignment is about the use of sound to create sequence in story. I had a wonderful time performing this activity. My group came up with the idea of exorcism. So, we had to produce a sound that fits the sequence of the story. While practicing the exorcism part with my group, I felt creeps all over of my body. I’m surprise how by only using your mouth to produce a sound can be such an interesting way to convey your message or story. This activity helps to sharpen my listening skills in order to notify each sound that has been produced.

Sound Story (9/7/2008)
My first minor performance is to create a sound story. Sound story is to use various kind of vocal and link it together to conduct a meaningful and lively story. I find it very interesting because everybody have to turn around and not looking the group that performed. We really have to listen by heart and guess the story line. By not looking at the gesture, it is hard for me to guess because some sound is similar and confusing, for example sound of opening durian and squeezing the lemon. While presenting, I do not feel nervous because we are presenting in a group and I have experience in acting before. I am very surprise because I do not expect I can actually produce some weird sound. In conclusion, creativity and team work is very important to make a performance run smooth and successfully.

for this course edu 3202, pn ju asked us to perform a sound story. our group is called ‘The Phantoms’. Rachel is the one who came up with the idea for our sound story. But we had to change the story a bit because we had some problems in making the sounds. I really enjoyed making the sounds.it was a real fun.our story is about a pregnant lady chased by two dogs, she falls down and had labour pain.she delivered the baby on the spot. Then a car comes by and saved the mother and baby. however on the day of the performance, geeta who was supposed to make the sound of the pregnant woman falls sick. All of us were so worried. We thought we cant give our best. But however in the end we gave a good performance.we were satisfied with our performance. I am looking forward for the other minor performances.it’s very interesting

Our second assignment was rhythm and movement. For rhythm and movement we were asked to perform a dance for 10 to 15 minutes. We chose a tamil song, a remix of hindi and English song and an English song by rihanna. This task was a challenging one for me because I am not good at dancing. Still I tried my best to dance. Thanks to the other members of the phantoms, they really helped me out. Our dance was choreographed by geeta and jay. The steps was pretty hard to learn. But somehow, I learned the steps. The night before the performance we slept at 4am, because we were busy preparing our mask and bandana.the next morning we started our practice at 8am. While we were practicing Rachel got her knee injured, we had to call the ambulance and doctor said she should not dance. We were so stressed out at the time because we had to change the formations. After that, Rachel helped to draw tattoo on our hands. As we did some last minute changes to our dance, in the middle of our performance we forgot the steps. Every one of us were doing different steps. But no matter what, we really enjoyed ourselves. An experience that I can never forget!

Minor Performance week 1 (9/7/2008): Sound Story

For the first week of our EDU3202 class, we have been assigned to make a sound story. For this task, we have to create a story by just produce sequenced sounds which were produced only by mouth to show the storyline. On the day of the performance, each group came out with their own story. At that time also, many sounds were heard from each group. After each group performed, we were asked to guess what the story each group presented are. This tested our listening skill.
For the preparation, it is not as easy as I think. Some of the sounds we do not know how to produce it. So, through the process, we change the storyline to fix it with the sounds we can produce and not to forget, the time limit that has been set for each story. In the end, we came out with a story about a woodchopper who has nearly being a prey to a tiger who chased after him and was saved by a hunter eventually.
This activity is very interesting for me and I think it is also suitable to use as an alternative in teaching instead of just the teacher teaches or gives explanations in front of the class. Using this alternative, students are involved in the teaching and learning process and I am sure they could adapt the lesson better. Students also would not be boring in class because they can do something different and interesting.

our first minor performance was sound story.at first, i never think that just by producing sound, one can tell a story.so, i felt it would be a little bit difficult for my group to make it real-i mean the sound.
after discussing with my group members, we decided to make a story entitled 'a great escape'
it begins with a man opens the door and kisses his wife before riding his motorcycle to the woods.
while chopping the tree, suddenly a tiger appears.the man shocks and runs to save his life.fortunately, there is a hunter, who then shoots the tiger.
for this activity, i have to produce kissing sound, the frog and sound of the tiger after being shot by the hunter. from these 3 sound, the most difficult one is the sound of dying tiger..huhu.but i think i'd done it quite ok la..=)
from this activity, i have learned that the teamwork is important.thanks to my group-elle rossa for all your commitments.
in my opinion, this such activity is interesting to do in my class in the future.it is exciting and enjoyable.that will make my class interesting and not boring.
i think my first week being in class edu 3202 is wonderful!

1st minor performance - Sound Story (9/7/2008)

The first task that we need to do in our theater performance is sound story. This is a very challenging task for me because my sound producing skills are very limited. However, despite my limitation, I am able to produce some sound that is useful for our story. I enjoy doing the task and I learned a lot from the preparation until the day of performance.

In this activity, the cooperation within the group member is very important, we give signals and eyes contact to our member when performing so that we do not get lost. The group that impresses me a lot is “Durian Meets Eno” because my imagination was totally wrong, I thought the person is having constipation at first, in fact, he is opening the durians. This activity improves my senses, creativity and listening skill.

Compared to the other subjects we are taking this semester, the theater class is the class that I heard my course mate laugh a lot, this proves that we really enjoy the class. The sound story is a creative activity that will help our teaching in the future. I believe this activity is good for some of our students who do not like to talk in class because of their lack in vocabulary, create a story without saying a word will help them to build their confident in doing task.

The second task that has been given to us was totally enjoyable. We had to choreograph a dance movement according to the music (rhythm) that we choose to portray our group’s identity. Luckily, for my group, we have 2 real dancers that really helped us in synchronizing our movement and choreograph our steps. This activity is really about cooperating with your group members and just has fun while you are dancing.
. All the pain that I have to endure while practicing this activity has finally pay off. I really enjoyed this activity. I have learned to move along with the rhythm and just feel the beat. Is not just about counting your steps. Is more than that! Wow!..that was my first expression when I saw other’s groups performances. They are very energetic. In a real classroom, this activity will help to foster the students’ creativity and stimulates their mind. The students can portray their own image by choreograph their own dance. It will also help in boosting up their confident level and be comfortable with their own body.

Finally, it is the start of a new week by clicking on to the theater mode.

For our first week’s assignment, we were told to perform sound story by using nonetheless only our own voice box. Creating story by using only sound is rather something new thing to me as I have usually watch plays or performances together with sound and actor’s movement. I realized that is relatively hard to express what a person wants to convey without really seeing that particular person with our own eyes. The same goes for seeing only without hearing. Therefore, I think one of the main reasons for this activity to be carried out is for people to realize how important it is to have both to the sense of hearing and seeing. In order to teach, it is essential for students to have both visual and audio clear and comprehensible so learning can be made possible.

However, I could not deny the fun of guessing the story line by listening only to the sound. It somehow tested us to make sense out of what we hear and relate it to the story. In order for that to happen, you are required to focus and listen attentively. So, this activity made us notice the way to gain student’s full attention without providing any images. It provides great opportunity for students to expand the creativity and world of imagination inside them.
Therefore, in my opinion, this activity has both its pros and cons. It really offers a gateway to make teacher realize what would be the best and most suitable way to teach so learning can be perform. Should this way be use, it would highly depend on the level of student’s understanding. I think a balance of both would be ideal.

First class for theatre, all we have to do is to make a story based on sounds from our mouth. We need to tell the story using the sounds and it is not as easy as what I hope. From my point of view, it is a great and very interesting task! This activity contributes so many benefits in tightening our group member’s relationship and also in adding our experience of theatre.
The day we got the task, we discussed it as a group. Our story is about a woodcutter that was chased by a tiger while he is working in the jungle. At the end of the story, another man, a hunter saved the life of the woodcutter. We had to arrange the ideas and try to make the relevant sounds that can make people understand our story. I really love the title of our performance ‘Great Escape’ because it makes our sound story sounds great.
On the day of our performance, we practice the sound before we perform. At that time, we need to help each other in producing the sounds. If one of our group members cannot produce certain sounds, another will help her. For me, that is what we call as co-operation within a group. Besides that, we have to be so supportive to each other. Not only to motivate ourselves, but also our group members.
In short, this activity really helps me to think creatively when I have to produce the sounds. Besides that, it makes me look at a story from a very different perspective. A story is not only can be told by the common ways we always hear it. It also can be told by making sounds creatively.

2ND WEEK REFLECTION
Dancing. It is the most difficult thing that I have to do in my life. I have no experience in dancing and also do not interested in dancing. But for my second performance, I have to do something with this most difficult thing. Something that is really makes me frustrated.
First time I heard about the theme of my group’s performance, I wonder if I can do it. Since there is no objection from other group members, I decide to try and make it possible. One thing that makes me crazy about this performance is we have to practice salsa and also other Latino’s dancing. It is very hard for me and until last minute, I still cannot dance salsa.
Yes, I enjoy the performance from other group. However, I really frustrated with my dance. When we (my group members) are in the stage, we forgot all the steps that we have learnt and practiced for a whole week. Maybe this is a test for us to look how far we can do our best in entertaining our audience.
I really appreciate Puan Ju’s advice to us. Although we are not performing the best performance, she still gives us the motivation to do our best on next time. For my group members, we have to learn from our mistakes.

Last Wednesday(16th July) was our first minor performance for the theatre class. Each group was asked to create a sound story. We have to use sound to develop sequence in the story. It was quite difficult to produce the correct sound that match with the character. I chose to produce the simple sound which is bird. Some of the sounds produced were quite funny and we could not avoid laughing at each other during practice time. In this case, self-confidence is very important. Even though we were not given much time to practice, I think my group did well because our audience could guess the story correctly. When I listened to other group’s performance, I found that it is quite difficult to understand the story because sometimes, the sounds produced were not that similar to the real sounds. However, for me, this activity is very interesting because it makes me realize how beautiful life is with so many different sounds that we could hear and I could not imagine my life without it.

for this task,of course we have to dance and i..i never ever think that i'm going to dance in a public before this.of course i can dance but..only in the bathroom or my room..huhu..
my group decided to do latin dance.at first, i'm quite disagree with this decision because i don't know salsa and any step of latin's dance..but then,i try to practise with my group.it is not easy..even i got a headache while practising this dancing.cooperation from all group members is important actually.that's one thing i've learned from this activity.
i know that my group is not the best performance of that day but i still happy doing that dancing.may be because that was my first time and i actually like dancing..=)
even though i'm quite nervous while waiting for our turn, but then i enjoyed that dancing.yes of course there are few steps that we forgot but i think it is okay since we are not the dancers..not good at dancing.huhu
for all my group members, thanks for your commitments and let us take pn ju's advices as our guides for our next task!!=)

2nd minor performance – Rhythm and Movement (16/7/2008)

In my life, I never thought that I will dance. The first time I dance and have to dance in front of 60 people, I am really nervous within this one week. Finally, we finished our performance on 16/7. Although many thing seems new to me, I notice that I can have many breakthroughs in this subject, I gained a lots of precious experiences that I will never forget.

In the second minor performance, we have to think of dances that represents our group’s identity. Our group name is rose thorn, so we have carry out our identity using three songs, the first one is about gardener planting some rose seeds and then the seeds grow into roses. At last, most of the roses faded and become thorn, only one rose survive. The second song is about a group of human being playing and dancing in the garden, we used a very energetic and happy Chinese song for this part of dance. Then the third song is the rose realizes that the thorns are not the enemy but its protective friends, so they enjoy each other presence and dance happily.

Min Hui is our choreographer in this task; I really thank her for teaching us patiently. From never dance before until dance in front of people is not only challenging us but also challenging her. Despite our limitation in dancing, Min Hui has transforms us to dancer within one week. We suffered physically but I think she had suffered mentally and physically.

We wake up early and sleep very late in that week due to our practices; luckily none of us get sick. We really work hard for this performance, and I am happy that all of us have tried our best. I also learned to enjoy the rhythm in the music when I dance; this is something that I cannot do in the beginning. Now I know that everyone can dance.

I am looking forward to another challenging and enjoyable activity.

It was such a relief after last Wednesday’s dancing. After days of miserable, tiring and worried mood, it had all came to an end with reasonable good outcome. I figure out that apart from filling people with anxiety and nervousness though this activity, it has also somehow make me realized that there is nothing to be fear of after we have finish our dance. Why was I so nervous about forgetting the footsteps and not showing that you are enjoying the song enough? I have come to realized that I should trust my own capability of being as good as my other group members.

This activity has not only boasted my own self confidence, it has also loosened up the stiffness of my body muscle. Now I felt much more energized and refresh compared to the last time. With confidence increased, I think that teaching in class in the future will be a lot easier. Since I can dance in front the public with approximately 60 people around, hopefully teaching in a class with less than that amount of people will not be a problem.

Overall, it was great learning experience for both my group member and me. It has brought us together even closer and that we will have to support and help each other in order to perform a task well.

hi Puan Ju. My group's name is The Phantom. Our first assignment was to create a story by just using sounds that comes out from our mouth. at first it was really diifficult to do. and then later as we progressed it was actually very fun. what was fun is that i was suppose to bark like a fierce dog.then later shamini got frightened and did not sleep in her room that night. the preformance was very interesting as it helps us to overcome our fear.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 1: SOUND STORY

For the first minor performance during EDU 3202 class, we have been assigned to create a story by only from the sound that we produced from our mouth. The name of our group is “BETTY and LULU” which symbolizes everything inside us. When we perform the task, the rest of our classmates have to close their eyes and by just listening to the sound we produced, they have to guess the storyline. As a group, we have created an interesting story which basically about a guy, who’s been cheating on her wife by dating other woman in a park. Then, there’s goes the sound of the cat and the ice-cream vendor interfere which makes the storyline much easier to understand by others. Each of our group members has to play their own role and we complete each other. We have to produce the sound loud enough so that it can be hear clearly. I found that this activity is very helpful because it’s improving my self confidence for I’ve never been raising my voice in front of others. What can I say about our group, is that all of us are very sporting and supportive towards each other which makes this activity really enjoyable and memorable for us. We really co-operate well with each other and functions as a group. I do think that the most important thing is that in everything that we do, we have to enjoy it and have a good relationship among the group members so that everything goes well even it’s not perfect. It is fun and I’m looking forward for the next activity during your class, Pn.Juridah..

MINOR PERFORMANCE 2: RHYTHM AND MOVEMENT

For the second minor performance during EDU 3202 class, we have been assigned to choreograph a dance and perform it in front our classmate. For this task, we have chosen 3 songs to suit our dancing, which was “Hey Ya” by Outcast, “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Jessica Simpsons and “Numa Numa” by Ozone. All the song we have chosen is really catchy and the dancing step that we design is sexy and eye-catching. The most important is that, all of us have a really good time and enjoy ourselves during this task. Even though I do admit that some of the steps is quite hard and we have to really use our energy to the fullest, but I’m really happy that we managed to perform it successfully. But the most enjoying is that we have fun during our practice and when its our turns to perform, we let go ourselves and give our best shot! Our group’s tagline is “HAPPY, SEXY, CHEEKY DANCE” and we prove it! By completing this task, I feel that we have increased our self confidence and we know that we can work as a group by helping and supporting each other during the practice.

In our previous class, we are asked to create a story based on sounds that we produce by our mouth. At first, I thought this task would be difficult because I really don’t have any idea about the whole thing. But, one of our group members, Ainil came out with a brilliant idea of exorcism. During our practice, I felt creeps all over my body because of the sounds that we produce such as wolf howling, ghost giggling, etc. Also, from this activity, I’ve learned that we can get massages not only from one on one communication but also through sounds. Overall… I really having fun while doing this activity and I can’t wait to perform another task.

This week's minor performance is rhythm and movement. I am so scare and nervous to dance or shall I say move according to the music in front of so many eyes. I usually like to watch performances by artist and enjoy so much but now I feel that like being in their shoes. Tired and body aches are always there for us whenever finish practice. Despites all those pain and sweats, I realize that we spend most of our time together as a group and know more about our group members like knowing their hidden talents and moreover I never in a million years think I can dance but I did on that day. This time I would like to thank Faezah, Agnes and Jolyne for patiently dealing with me and also the steps they have created (Hwaiting..guys) It feels nice when I can do something that I think I could not do. I still have weakness though where I can’t really follow the rhythm. I hope that I will improve soon. Then, this minor performance had also help in sense of moving and speeding, I am not a small person instead I am heavy so problem with speed definitely exist but I guess that the only solution is lose some weight. I also feel that during theatre, there a lot of movements that has to be done and speed needed in order to produce a smooth theatre performance. Sometimes, during the discussion we will somehow remember of late Keera and then we will predict how she would react and other stuff. Lastly, Pn. Ju , thanks for making me exercise with this minor performance.

As we know, this semester going to be the challenging semester for us as we are having our EDU 3202. I was so excited for this theatre. During the holiday I was very curious about this course and I have my course outline but I can’t figure it out what is really about. So back to university our first task is sound story. I was so confused, figuring what is that all about and what to do. Later, after the explanation we get some idea on how to do. During the presentation time, I was so surprise! I did not expect that we can produce sound by just using our mouth. I’ really enjoyed our class Pn.Ju. It’s really interesting hopefully I can enjoy it more in our coming activities.

Sound Story

Hi Pn. Ju… The first minor performance was fun. I enjoyed creating stories just by producing sound from our mouth. My team and I came up with the story. I really wanted to have a pregnant lady in the story and the right person to do it was none other than Geeta! (She’s really good in making those kinds of sounds. Haha) Anyway the setting of the story is at windy night and that is shown by the sounds of the strong wind, hauling dogs followed by the frogs and insects. As these sounds gets softer, from distance the sound of heavy breathing could be heard. This shows that someone is running and the breathing is followed by the sound of two dogs. From this we can relate that the person is chased by dogs. Then the person falls down and cries in pain, not just any pain but labour pain. As she cries out in pain the dogs continued barking. At one point the lady gives out a loud cry and the baby is born. From distance you could hear a car speeding by and beeping the horn right before the person hits the break. As the person got down, the person shooed the dogs away and saved the lady and the baby. During the process of rehearsing the sound, we all really enjoyed and had loads of fun. I realize that some of my friend could make weird sounds. We spend most of our time by laughing. It was really great. Anyway thanks to you, I learned something new and I enjoyed myself.

Rhythm & Movement

This is the most interesting performance ever. It was a great experience for me. There are three reasons for me to say that. First is that it is 10 to 15 minutes performance and I had done quite a lot of performances but not up to 10 to 15 minutes!!!! So it was challenging and fun. The second reason is that, I was an athlete in school but never one have I injured my knee!!! For my theater, I “popped” my knee. Then again it is challenging, great experience and memorable (hehe!!). The third is that, though I injured my knee and got a letter from the doctor saying that I could not do anything extreme for one week, I still couldn’t help myself joining my team at the last two minutes of their performance. This Rhythm & Movement performance has an impact on me which I will never forget for the rest of my life. Thanks to my team members fro being there for me (though I screwed them up) and making it memorable for me.

Theatre in TESL is new for this semester and I find it interesting, challenging but tough. It is because it requires a lot of creativities which I find it tough. However, this course is a good training for us, dear TESLians to have good time management, discipline and cooperation to meet up with one another from time to time for discussions and practices in order to produce a good performance. I find that doing group discussions for the performance is very helpful because there is a combination of ideas from different group members which can help to produce a more interesting and creative performance.
The first minor performance is Sound Story. This activity is fun because we are taught of the right way of breathing to produce loud and clear sound. We also get to do various types of stretching before performing Sound Story. After the breathing and stretching activity, the sound produced is indeed louder and powerful.
The part that I like most is listening and guessing different group performance’s storyline. I am marvel to see the creativity of different groups in producing their Sound Story. Some even add in advertisement in their performance and sometimes it makes people wonder and laugh while guessing. For my group, Rose Thorn, we performed an owner brought her dog out for a walk. Then, the dog was hit by a car in the city and the owner cried. Finally, she buried the dog. I enjoy the coordination and flow of various sounds. Although it is just sounds, it can even produce a story. Sometimes, I am shy to act or stand in front of the crowd. However, this is a good start for me to learn and I hope I will enjoy this course together with Puan Juridah and dear course mates.

It was really fun and great experience in Rhythm and movement minor performance. Although I am not a dancer, I have the opportunity to pick up some steps to dance with the rhythm and perform in front of many people. I was very happy and glad to perform in front of the crowd. Although I was nervous that day during the performance, I am thankful that I was able to coordinate with my group members in the dance. I kept on thinking about the dance steps and really hope that I could remember them all. However, I missed some steps. I am glad that I was able to smile during the performance, but I think it was stiff because I was nervous at that time. No matter what, I really enjoyed myself very much in the dance performance and also wonder, “Wow, you really can dance?”
It is undeniable that before the dance performance, every group including us was putting in much effort to perform their best. For my group, Rose Thorn, we were also finding free time to practice until we were familiar with the dance steps. I can say that I was one of those who were hard and difficult to follow those difficult and complicated steps. My body and limbs were stiff and looked artificial when I first danced. Thanks to Min Hui who was so patiently guiding and teaching me and my group members until we could memorize and enjoyed the dance with the rhythm.
During the practice, I could see that diligence, perseverance and endurance were very important. I also could see that practice makes perfect. The more we practice, the better we could remember and dance.

Our second minor performance Rhythm and Movement; it is about dancing and enjoying the music. I have a good time preparing this activity and performing it, although it is quite tiring. But when we are doing something that we like, we would not feel tired and I am sure my group members and I are really enjoy this activity. At first, we felt that it was hard as we need to create our own dance steps. Yet, later we found out that it is really interesting and enjoying. This activity does fit well in classroom later. Of course I do not mean that asking my students to dance in the classroom. I might do an outdoor learning class and ask them to perform their dancing during the outdoor class. This activity will help them to build their confidence to perform in front of people and to show their creativity. As their confidence grow, their level of anxiety will be lower and they will not be shy to ask and speak what they wanted to later in class. Besides, I might build a better relationship with my students during this lesson too. Anyway, I am totally enjoyed and I was so into the songs when I was dancing.

blog on sound story
This had been my first time doing sound story. When Puan Juridah gives us the outline, I was shock. We need to make story by only doing sound with no vocal. This is tuff. I don’t even can make a nice cat sound. After I observed my classmate, I think we are all new to this activity. We need to tell a story using only vocal sounds. How ridiculous! But at last, we did create a story out.

We are very lucky because our group is the first to perform. After we finish our bla… sound, my course mates interpreted the story with a different version compared to our original idea. But, from what we heard they say, their version make sense too based on the sounds we produced. This will be interesting if as a teacher, we want our students to do it in class. They will find it interesting and concentrate in our lesson.

Then, we are given chance to watch others groups present. Each and every group is trying their voice to make types of sound such as witch, accident, wolf and so on. We need to guess the sequence of the story as well. The sound that most attract me is the sound of the mother crying presented by Priya’s group.
The sound really attracted me. Our classmates really make a very good job.

In my opinion, I think that this is a very good try that all of us are enjoying listening to other course mates’ performance. While listen to the sound, we also make ourselves a happy time there.

blog of rhythm and movement
This week, we had been given our minor performance2 that was rhythm and movement. The most interesting part is we need to dance out our identity of group’s name. As our group name is ‘Rose Thorn’, it really makes me felt thorny. How to show out our identity by dancing?

As a group leader, I do have to contribute efforts in chronograph the steps of dance. So, I make myself free for the whole weekend to finish up the dance. Finally, I had finished chronograph my dance. So on Sunday night, I call all my group members to practice at PKP in college Chancellor. Sadly, only three turn up. Then we only learned a few simple steps.

Wednesday is around the corner, this make me felt nervous and sad. I scare I can’t I can’t teach my members, and I am sad because they all didn’t turn up for Monday morning training. On Monday night, the whole PKP is full of people. They are all my course mates, practicing the dance that they need to perform. We also started to practice. Slowly, my mates all started familiar with all the steps. We also do the broacher and synopsis together.

Three days had passed. Today is the day we need to perform. We make ourselves to be in the best condition. Morning, we make ourselves memories all the steps and is our last rehearsal. Then, something happened. Our buddy group, Rachael, has a fall and she spins her knee. She was in pain and tears coming out from her eye. At last, we decide to send her to PK. Although she can’t dance, but she did sacrifice for art.

When we reached Faculty Of Pendidikan, Puan Juridah told us that we are the last group. Group after group, make us so excited. Some of them felt more nervous and nervous. For me, I do think is excited because I love to dance in the crowd. When reached our turn, we strike out our best move and dance. We really enjoyed ourselves because this is our production and we must enjoy it nicely.

Through this performance, we merely have meeting every night and this had help us to build up our relationship among our group member. Besides that, we have the chance to watch our friends perform. I did realize that many of my class mates can dance very well but they are too shy to do so. But when they are on stage, they did make a very good move. They built up their confident and this is very helpful in our major performance. Some of the groups are not prepared, but they did do a great job. I can see that they really putting effort in practicing. This is a great time to develop human’s creativity and rhythmic. I still remember Hoe-Yi say it helped her to get lost of weight because dance requires to move our body figure. We also can make this activity in class so that students can have the chance to do exercise in the meantime release their tension studying.

Last Wednesday (16/07/08) we have to perform a task which has something to do with rhythm and movement; and of course we have to dance. This activity is really about how we collaborate with all the group members and at the same time having fun while dancing. So, my group has chosen 4 songs which are ‘One Night Only’, ‘Mahligai Gading’, ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ and ‘Maneater’. Actually, we only choreograph our steps on Monday. And thank God, we managed to memorize all the steps within a short time. I really enjoyed this activity although I have to suffer the whole week just to make sure that everything going to be alright during that day.
As for in the real classroom, I think this activity can be interesting and also it can cultivate the students’ to be more creative. They will also learn how to work within a group and this may help students’ to increase their self-confidence.

last week was rhythm and movement week. talk about waking up to reality!! personally, i never gave much attention to the tune while dancing whenever i danced before but this time i had to. not really because the activity was so but because of the type of music my group leader Min Hui chose. it would have been really hard to pull off our performance if we lacked concentration even for a second. i like dancing though i am not really good at it so i guess this assignment was really fun. first of all it really helped the bond between our group as we really had to go all out to help each other and also had to be critical at the same time. luckily there wasn't any tense feelings. secondly, for me, this activity could help my confidence during my major performance,..i try to avoid as much eye contact as possible. finally, i am just glad that my group and I as well as my entire class enjoyed ourselves even while practicing constantly. i did my best but there is some room for improvement especially my expressions and confidence. i am looking forward to my next task but i hope i manage till the end of semester because there is just too much work!

Rhythm and Movement (16/7/2008)
After days of intensive training, finally the big day for us to perform our minor performance for week 2; that is rhythm and movement. I must admit that this is the first time I dance in the public (besides the club-hopping nights on late Friday nights) and it was really a fun experience for me. We- The Cassiopeians were the last three teams to perform. Though we were able to watch other teams perform first and listen to Pn Ju’s comments, too much waiting actually increases our anxiety to perform.
Many groups bought costumes or wore accessories to signify their group identity, for instance we wore black T-shirts, jeans and red ribbons on our fingers and hair. One group even go through the trouble of buying hats, gloves and a pair of angel’s wing for the purpose of this performance. However I believe it is unnecessary to over-spend money on costumes; I mean there are other alternatives that one can choose to synchronize his/her team. Even if you feel like spending on costumes, go for the “value buy” stuff like what Min Hui’s group did. They bought RM5 T-shirts in South City Plaza. (Though Lee looked weird in shocking pink!)
I believe this rhythm and movement session not only helped me in overcoming stage-fright, but at the same time allowed me to freely express myself when I am place on the center of all attention. Having this experience of dancing in the public for the first time really caused me to be more confident in myself and made me believe that there is nothing that I cannot handle when I am on stage.
I recall Pn Ju saying something like this “Don’t squash your brains by trying hard to remember the dance steps, just let the music take control and enjoy yourself out there!” True enough, theatre is about how well you are able to portray the character that you are acting. If you don’t learn to love the character you are playing, you will never succeed in bringing out the charterer well on stage. In dancing, we shouldn’t be too conscious over our dance steps; the same theory applies to theatre. If one ever forgets his/her dialogues in script, he/she should not panic; instead they should come up with their own version of dialogues which are relevant to the story line in order to make the flow play smooth.
This rhythm and dance session also helped me in developing my body language according to the mood of the situation. For instance, the songs that we were using were “Last Farewell” by Big Bang and “Balloons” by TVXQ. The first song was an aggressive hip-hop song, therefore I really need to move my body just like how the hip-hoppers does and at the same time put up a serious face throughout the whole song. However, “Balloons” was a song about happiness and youth. That was why our actions for this song were kind of cute and childish in a way because we want everyone to feel the blissfulness in this song. Faez even “ordered” us to smile continuously throughout the whole “Balloon” song. Once again we have to immerse ourselves into the play so that we can “feel” how the fictional character felt in the play.
I am glad to have this rhythm and movement session included in this course for it did us great favor by preparing each and everyone for the Big Day! (Now I am when can I ever get a chance to dance again?! hehehe)

In the second week, we were assigned to do the task of rhythm and movement. At first I felt very stressful because my group and I have to dance. We didn’t have any experience in dancing. So, on that week, we had tried our best to dance as well as we can. All of us contributed in many things and practiced dancing whenever we had a free time. During the performance day, we were the sixth group. I was very surprised with my course mates because they had a good talent in dancing and performed well. When my group performs the task, they were so surprise and keep on giving support and cheers. At last, we had a big clap from my friends and Pn. Juridah also gave us her compliments. We felt so happy and I will never forget this experience because this can give me some ideas in performing our theatre at the end of the semester.

the first week of the subject, we already have an assignment to do which i think quite interesting at the very beginning. we are assign to do the sound story. we just have to used sound, not a verbally conversation. after the class, we have decided to do the discussion and we have come to a conclusion saying that we want to make a war story because there are so many sound that we can make from. i have been given a protagonist character, which is a bad soldier that come and attack others house.
we practice for this performance is for just a day. at first we taught that it is easy but when we do the practice, it is quite tough actually. the day has come, and our group is the fourth group for the second night. one by one of the group come to the front and make their performance and they are very good actually. when my group's turn had come, i become very nervous but luckily we can finish it and we satisfied with it because our friends can guest our story.
i think that the minor performance is good because we can develop our confidence to the higher level and prevent us from sleeping in the class because of lecture.

I would like to give my reflection on my second performance that I did last Wednesday. This time we are asked to create a dance and perform in front of the class. I am sure that most of us like to see people dancing, including me, but to dance is quite difficult since I am quite a shy person. I feel uncomfortable to dance in front of man and in an open area like that. However, we have tried to do our best for the minor performance. Even though my group’s performance was not that perfect because all of the members in my group do not have experience being a dancer, we enjoyed it. All of us contribute ideas for the dance. From all the groups that presented, I like Faezah’s group the most because their performance was simple, not sexy and they seemed enjoying what they did. Maybe because they like the song very much.

i would like to respond on our first minor performance. we were assigned to produce the sounds that made only from the mouth. to tell you the truth i had a blast time with my teammates and other classmates although it was a little bit tough here and there in making such sounds and noises.
we have come up with the concept of exorcism. it was a some sort of a short story about a girl who gas been possessed by a ghost.
i tell you it had given me the creep when we did the rehearsal for the first time! it was because the ghost laughing sound that made by nurul really scared me! like it was a real ghost laugh! credits to her.
we managed to come up with other scary sounds such as the wolf howling, the crying and the shaman's chanting. the shaman's chanting sound which was made by khai was totally hillarious. the sound made sounded funny for me though.lol
after the performance, i have learned that sounds actually connecting people. not only humans, animals are also giving much contributions in communicating among them and humans.so let make sounds and interact.

as for the second minor performance, two words for it.awesome and fantastic!
rythm and movement was one of my favorite activity in this class so far.me myself just lovee dancing and making moves.
the teammates and i successfully choreographed an interesting performance for it. we have come up with certain moves which contibuting a lot in giving the sense of story in the performance.
basically, the dance and the song have to go along, as they help in conveying message to the audience.
we had fun during the performance, although we had only a little time to practice the moves. thank God it went well. other groups have done their best before, during and after their performances *clap clap*. i was also interested in their costumes that they have designed. very creative and colourful.
thanks to my group members who have done their best for the performance.

hi...pn.jue..hmm..first of all, i would like to say that im having fun during this course..it is because..i think that all the assignment in this particular course make me feel more comfortable to expose myself as i am..for example..during the first assignment which is producing sound. first time when we get the task..i was so worried because i am a shy person maybe its hard for me to produce sound. After we get the assignment, we all discuss about it at the cafe, after all the thinking we came out with a story about durian and eno and try to produce the sound, during the practice,we laugh because when we record the sound that we produce was it was so funny and can be misinterpreted by others, but we continue to practice to get a better sound until you in your office heard us..that time i was embarrassed because we didn't expect that you heard us..
Next, when we have to present it, i was nervous and shy because there is an other peoples watch us,but thanks to all the support from my friend in se7en wonders, i can do it better...(i think so)..and i think this assignment teach me a lot about self confidence and how to deal your nervous when people watching you. That all from me..thank you and im looking forward to the next assignment..bye...

Rhythm and movement

hi pn.jue..i would like to give my reflection during the second week in this semester. this time our assignment was rhythm and movement or dance!!.i was worried because last time im dancing was when i in form 1 a loonnggg..time ago..i don't know if i still get the talent.
then it come to the day that we have to choreograph and practice the dance,..first of all, we have to find the song to dance, then we try to choreograph the movement. in order to get the movement, we watch so many dance clip and try to copy the step and match it with the music. But thanks to our group, everybody gives their idea. It was a hard job ever..it take us 1 whole day to think about the step...but there just half of the song..and there is more step to think about.we practice night and every time when we have free time in order to finished and make this assignment accomplish the way we want.
i still remember when we practicing,(because we practicing our dance in open place ) all my friends (not doing TESL) in collage was wondering and asking about what we are doing..they was shock because they don't expected that we have to dance for this course. i was quite shy because i never dance when i was in here, so it maybe looks funny (i think)but i tried to throw that feeling away and enjoyed the dance.
Luckily our collage have huge mirror for dance practice and that will make thing easy for us to check our movement.
Then the day to present the work has come, after all the hard works,we think that we need to enjoyed the moment. Even though i was quite a shy person, i still need to do my best for my group.
during that time,we didn't expected that we get a big applause and compliment from you . That was a relief..that all..thank u...

performance 1: sound story

Well, it turned out to be fascinating-sound story I mean-in terms of producing it, and I got to hear lots of weird sounds that were hard to put my finger on what it were. And lots of sounds that seems real and original, as if it came from the original sources-especially the animal sounds. So REAL!! Were real tears there when some people were crying their hearts out? Hmm…I wondered…(since I cant watch sound story ;D )

Some performances/storylines are easy to figure out, some are not so in the first hearing. Producing various of sounds to communicate stories to audience was not easy since this is the first time I ever did such a thing, but I heard lots of sounds (which never crossed my mind) that actually works in conveying the storyline in their performance. Sounds that never crossed my mind, but nevertheless it work in their performance. It’s good!

MINOR 1: SOUND AND STORY

This is our first task for minor performances. I feel very excited indeed but tired at the same time as it is still first week. However, we really enjoy in making all those funny sounds. Our group chose to be chickens. At that moment only I discover that to cooperate together actually take a lot of efforts. Not all of us can make chicken sound, so we take different roles depending of our own ability. If anyone of us misses out one sound, the others will quickly replace that person’s role. We have a fun time, especially when the time we need to guess other groups’ performances. Some sounds are mistaken as other sounds and all sort of stories is created by us. If this activity were to be done in classroom, I think it will attract the students’ attention. Besides, learning how to cooperate together, they can have fun at the same time. When they need to guess others’ performances, they will start talking excitedly. It doesn’t matter whether they speak in first language, but the main thing here is the ideas that they express. Teacher can guide them in how to say their ideas in English.

I am very enjoyed the performance rhythm and movement because music and dance are sort of stimulation is my life. Besides that, it is not only can improve my body movement but also facial expression. Different song has its mood and I have to create a story for it. Unconsciously, my body would sway with the rhythm. Personally, I like to dance very much! This is also a chance for me to show my talent. In order to perform a ten minutes dance, we start from selecting the songs. I feel that I had explored to a wide variety of song such as, Rock, Swing, Jazz, Disco, and others. After choosing the songs, we choreograph, learnt, practiced and memorized the steps. The process is very systematic. Although all of us practiced until muscle strain but we try to do our best on it. Besides that, the other groups’ performance is excellent; I feel that we actually have so many ideas in creating the dance. This dance is a meaningful and memorable experience for me because the learning style is different from other course by just sitting and listening to the lectures

The theme for the first task is about sound and story. This task required all of the groups to make a story by only producing a sound within 3 minutes. It can be any sound as along as it is produced by mouth and not the other part of the body.
The task seems to be easy at first because my group has decided to do a murder story but the problem revolved when we could not produce certain sounds contained in the story. Then, we decided to change the story. Instead of doing the murder story we have come up with the better idea which is war. The story started with sounds that reflect a peaceful village. Later on, there were sounds of bombs, riffle, and sounds of people crying and groaned in pain. This is the scene where the war started. However, we did something different before we moved on to next scene where we did humming of Ku Seru song by Misha Omar. This humming is to indicate the situation of scene. At first, I felt a bit of ashamed to make certain sounds. But when I saw everyone in the group actively participated, I felt that I should not let them down and tried my best to make it successful. Luckily, the audiences were asked to turn back and cannot see how we did the sounds. What they need to do was listened to the sounds produced and tried to guess the story. Personally, I found that this task is so interesting because all of us were making different sounds and tried so hard to make any sound that we never thought that we could have done before. My group has done a very good job and it was so proud to hear the comment from Pn. Juridah.

The task for the second week is about rhythm and movement. In this task we were asked to dance which required all of us to make a movement of our body. It sounds very interesting for those who loves to dance or knew how to dance. But for me it was quite difficult because I never dance before and it takes so long for me to learn the steps. The duration for this task was about 10 minutes and we need to combine at least 3 songs. The songs that we used for this task were Asmaradana, Taal, and Chamma chamma. Asmaradana was the song taken from Puteri Gunung Ledang and this song required emotions and concentration towards the song itself. As for me, the emotions part was difficult because I could not and not confident on how should I felt towards the song. However, taal and chamma chamma were very exciting and I have no problem about the expression and emotions. The steps that we did were really difficult as for the first learner like me. Luckily, all of us managed to do it even though it was not perfect as what the professionals did.The others groups were also performing energetically and it was very excitement when all of us were really enjoyed the performances. In my opinion I think everyone of us were really participated and worked hard to complete this task. Besides, this task had a positive outcome where we can see all members in a group work together cooperatively and unite as a team. The best part was when Pn.Juridah loves what we did and gave us positive comment and she really enjoyed our performances.

After the previous task which was rhythm and movement, this week task require us to built sculpture and perform it in front of our lecturer. My group was doing sculptures that showed a group of people went to picnic at the beach. Our materials were clay, rocks and woods. I get a chance to become clay before my friend; Jolyne who was doing the sculpturing molded me as a person taking out the stuff from the basket. Each of us does different actions. The whole process was tiring because we need to be static for quite a long time. But one of the interesting parts is the background music that we use during the whole process. It does help in making the situation more exciting. When I think back about this week task, I find it is an interesting activity for the students to get involves in. it enable them to think of something creative for their group. At the same time it does help the others to think creative as well because they need to guess what are their classmates are doing. This kind of activity needs a lot of cooperation from the team members in order to make their creation successful. Not only that, it also train the students to become more discipline because this activity need a high discipline from the members. At the same time, it is an enjoying activity for both teacher and students which I pretty sure that they’ll love it so much.

(Now I am when can I ever get a chance to dance again?! hehehe)

The idea of conveying a story with nothing but sounds produced by mouth seems really interesting to me. When our lecturer assigned us this task, I can recall the excitement that all my group members shared. All of us were so thrilled and we even started to create a story on the spot. At first we came up with the idea of telling a story about visiting the farm because the sounds of animals were among the easiest sounds we can produce. However later we decided to put some changes to our sound story, the reason was that we suspect many group will also opt for animal sounds and we were afraid that our idea might clash with the other groups. As the five of us cracked our brains in search for some one-of-a-kind ideas, the “Chicken Run” movie suddenly flash into my mind and my group members kind of like the idea of merely focusing on one animal sound. Then Faezah came up with a wacky ‘chicken slaughter’ scene and all of us were really amused by that scene. Eventually we started to create a story based on the process of catching the chicken; slaughtering and cooking it and eventually being served as a fried-chicken meal. The story turned out to be quite amusing and it did sound entertaining. The next day every group was to perform their sound story in front of the whole class and I was amazed to see some groups perform quite well by infusing various kinds of sounds. It was really out of my expectations because I assumed that many groups will choose to tell stories base on animals, honestly they were very creative. Priya’s group also did an excellent job by humming songs to indicate the change of moods throughout their story about war. However there were some sounds produced by some groups were really hard to guess and some people really need to practice their voice projections because their voices were really soft and we hardly hear a thing.
Personally I believe it will be very interesting to introduce this sound story activity to my students in the future especially during literature classes. For instance, if I am to teach my Form 5 students “The Pearl” by John Steinbeck I can ask my students to create their own melodies or songs when they are in different mood because in this novel, the family song shows that Kino, Juana and Coyotito are together as a family; the ocean also has it own song whereby its waves crushing on the beach creates a sensual song. I will divide the class into a few groups and each groups are to create a sound story based on different moods example happy, sad, danger, exciting etc using not only their mouths but also there hands and legs. I believe this will be very different from other classes and students will really enjoy themselves during this sound story session. Besides that, this activity will also boost my students courage to speak in front of the class; like what I had experience in this class. Once again I am able to overcome the problem of stage-fright and express myself freely in front of the whole class. I enjoyed myself throughout this sound story session and it has given me a gist of how to control my voice projection in order to perform on stage without using the microphone.

blog on Sculptor and sculpture

Today is our third minor performance which is Sculptor and sculpture. We manage to come out some ideas which are funny, cute and lively, but we decided to choose the position of playing volleyball because of the nice and cute post.

We are the second group to present. So as usual, we make out our sculpture under the hot sun at astaka seni volleyball court. Since it is a volleyball court, it is convenience for us because we just use the court to make our post. Coincidentally, Ami group is also using this theme, and the different between us is that they are playing beach volleyball. But, I think others group really done a great job.

Actually, to do a sculpture and be a sculpture, our concentration and confidents plays a very important rule as well. We need to concentrate on what we are doing and it built up confident in us when we are posing in front of people using body figure. Becoming a sculpture also need to be patient. We must make sure we have patient because if we are not, we will ruin the whole artistic performance. This activity also relates to the rhythm and movement activity because both related to music and move with music. We must also be alert at everything. We can use this in class. As a teacher, we have always be alert and be a modal in front of the class. Through the activity, we can build up confident so that we can be a true modal in the class.

Minor Performance 1: Sound Story

War: In the eyes’ of a boy

For this first week, we learned the use of sound to develop sequence in story. Hence, we asked to come up with one. At first, we found it rather hard and difficult to complete this task since no words should be uttered. We have generated few ideas of plot to present. We thought of a horror story and an accident, but then we end up with a war sketch.
The story begins with lovely and peaceful sounds of a village. There were sound of animals such as rooster, duck, goat, cat and bird. Besides that, to emphasis the harmonious surroundings, we added effects of children playing and laughing, and also we did the humming of a soft and happy song to portray the particular purpose. As the plot progress, we suddenly change the tranquil atmosphere to a battle situation. Sounds of bullets, guns, bombs and war jet were everywhere. At the same time, we made sounds of people crying and suffering because of the war. To end it, we did the song of sadness humming.
Since it is the first task assigned for us, I was quite nervous waiting for the comments and responds. I was glad that my classmates could interpret what we intend to convey. It does mean that we did it well as they could understand the story line even though without any single utterances plus without facing us.
In short, I think this kind of activity can enhance our comprehension and skills towards theatre itself. I believe, theatre is not just about the act, but how to make people understand what we act out.

Minor Performance 2: Rhythm and movement

Fusion: Traditional and Modern Dance

For this second task, we need to move. I mean really move. So, we decided to combine the traditional and modern styles in the dance. We use three songs in order to fulfill this purpose. First is song by Tiara Jacquelina entitled Asmaradana. The second great song is taken from amazing Bollywood movie, Taal. And the last song is also from Hindustani film, China Gate, called ‘Chamma Chamma’.
Since we have a very short time to complete and memorize all the steps, we have started early for practice. We feel that we have no life at all. What we think is only how to make Madam Juridah says ‘Wow!. Day and night was seems same to us. In the mean time, I can see the attitude and discipline of each of my group members. Alhamdulillah, I am really proud and feel very fortunate to have very great team members, or I should call them very great friends. I dedicate my gratitude especially to Aza and Rini who been so cooperated and dedicated. They were willing to come to our college every single night before the performance to practice. I heard there are groups who complaint about their members, and I am very thankful that it is not happen in my group. Thank you girls!
After days of training, eventually the presentation moment came. We were the second group to perform. Even though we were only performing in front of our lecturer and classmates, I did felt nervous. The dance went well and we were satisfied with our show. However, Madam Ju was commenting us on our feelings and emotions. It is true that we did not really feel the song and blend it together with our steps. We had tried so much on it, but as an amateur, we could not achieve it.
Besides that, we have learned from Min Hui’s group who present a dance with plot. They told a story which I did not really catch it. But it was really good. They have an element which made them different from the others.
After all, as what Madam Ju has said, it was extremely well performance from all Teslian5. We have put so much effort, team work and discipline to complete this assignment. I think we deserve the compliment.

Minor performance 3: Sculptor & Sculpture

Murder scene

It was awesome! I was enjoying the three hours period with different great performances. I really attracted and fascinated with Iskandar’s group performance. The theme was really simple and yet they did it amazingly. They brought the theme of joy represented by their own physical body gestures which they move to become the letter H.A.P.P.Y. Wow! It never crosses my mind. Besides that, I also like the scene by Khairil’s group since they have succeeded in putting the role play since Khai is the only guy in the group. The props that they brought were really useful and suit with the theme.
In my opinion, by doing this kind of action, will somehow helps us in building the character and learn to be into it. I think the performance would be more effective and look realistic when each members of the group do it seriously with their emotions and facial expressions. It is also the opportunity for us to practice parts of the skills in theatre which will be held at the end of the semester. Plus, we can implement the same activity when teaching literature in class.
In short, I really feel like taking this course for another 3 semesters. =)

Sculptor and Sculpture

Well I must say that this minor performance really made me nervous. I was so nervous about being a sculptor. I have no specific reasons why so. Probably I just did not have the confidence but my team was great, especially Jayshri. She has this “problem”. She doesn’t like people touching her. So during the practices, I really had a tough time with her. She was so ticklish, so I decided not to touch her and just move along her body. (But that also she doesn’t want... haih don’t know what to do with that girl!!) Anyway, I was surprised that during the performance, she didn’t move an inch!!(I mean move as in she is ticklish) so thanks to her she made it easier. The “sculptors” looked great but the only problem was that I did not have much gestures and I wasn’t not moving according to the tempo. I was more concerned about the “scuptors”. So that’s what I did not have. (Sorry guys.)

I really liked Jasmine’s Lee’s and Priya’s performance. They really did a great job. It was so interesting thing. I really did enjoy it. Jasmine’s was so cool and I love the part where the sculptures tumble in the end. Really great and realistic. Lee’s was great too because I love the way he “formed” them and the postures that they were giving which also was very realistic. It really looks like they were playing volley ball. Also I like their idea of “team shirt”. They really took some effort in getting something that identifies their team. (And I think that Lee looks cute in pink. Quite daring for a guy to wear pink. Now that’s what I call group spirit!!!)Priya’s team was awesome. The thriller sound effects was great. She also did well in “sculpturing”. She also made some “effects” to bring the “sculptures” alive. (Just like Gepetto. Hehe). Anyway all the groups gave theirs best and all did well too.

The third week performances were really great and awesome. As for my group I think we had done a very good job. What we did this week was a murder scene. One of us which is Priya was assigned to be the sculptor and the rest of us were the sculptures. This task required high concentration and patient because all of us need to be static for about 2 to 3 minutes before the audience tried to make a guess on the scene that we did. Luckily, the scene that we did look real because kak yana was holding the knife and from that the audience were able to guess the scene.
However, the others group’s performance were also great and amazing. I really enjoyed jasmine’s, su ynn’s and iskandar’s performances. They did a simple scene but yet they act out like a real sculptures and it was very fascinating. Some of the sculpture looked very cute and they have to maintain the expression a few minutes and they managed to do so. The challenges of this task somehow came from the audience because some of them tried to make the sculpture laugh. But from what I saw none of them succeed. This means that all of us were really concentrate and give full effort to make sure that the performances succeed. Besides that, this somehow shows that all of us enjoyed what we did and willing to work hard on it. Lastly, congratulation to all of us!!!

During the first week, we are supposed to come up with a sound story which requires all of our group members to produce sounds by using our mouth. At the beginning we are quite worry as we don’t really know what sounds to produce and how the stories goes about, surprisingly after a few attempt we manage to come up with a story. Firstly, we divide each sound to our group member who feels comfortable producing it, and then we practice producing the sounds according to the sequence. Throughout the practice we did some changes to improve our sound story. For instance, initially all of us are rather shy and the sounds that we produce are quite soft and confusing but after much practice, we seem to get hold of it. When it comes to the actual performance, it is not bad after all…

Rhythm and Movement....
Honestly, before Rhythm and Movement, I seriously doubt myself whether I could really dance? Surprisingly after much afford and practice I could! Well not that great actually but at least I dance... I would like to take this opportunity to thank Min Hui and all my group members for continuously and undoubtedly have confidence in me. Trust me guys it means a lot to me. During the first few practices, I’m so stressful and felt like an idiot jumping up and down besides having to memorize all the steps. Throughout the practices I found out that timing and group work is very important in a performing a group dance. Even a slightest mistake will be noticeable and affect the unity of the group. Even though we have practice a lot but when it comes to the actual day I still did a few mistakes… well I guest it is because of my nervousness. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful experience and I will never forget it…

SCULPTURE AND SCULPTOR...
After performing sculpture and sculptor, I realized that body posture and facial expression is very important in stage performance. By portraying the appropriate facial expression and body gestures the actors may successfully convey the mood and message of the play. For example, if the performance is basically about grief and loss then throughout the play, the actors’ facial expression should illustrate sadness, sorrow and misery instead of joy, bliss and happiness.
For the purpose of this assignment we are required to elect a sculptor and the rest of the group members are suppose to be the object of sculpture. After much discussion, all my group members agree that I’ll be the sculptor and they’ll be the sculpture. I was reluctant to accept it at first but I agree after the much persuasion and they all agree to assist me. I was rather nervous when we first started practicing but eventually it gets better after a few try. Unfortunately during the actual performance, I still felt a little nervous and did not perform quite well. Perhaps this is a good practice to overcome my fears before the major play at the end of the semester. I hope that will develop my confidence as we move along….

Review on the sound story task.
I never imagined of how fun the assignment could be! Of course, I have my doubts at first since I had never heard of such activity. How on earth are we supposed to create a complete story by only using the sounds projected by our mouth vocal cords as the only instruments? Believe me, I have no idea. But after much brainstorming and discussion with my creative fellow group members, the task seems to be an interesting yet challenging one. We enjoyed every minutes of it. The idea is simple and we highly hoped that our course mates could understand the storyline. Although our presentation was slightly disturbed by the unwanted background noise (the drilling, laughing and staring which I consider it as noises too), I believed that we had performed our best. Recalling the whole progression of this activity, the objectives are definitely achieved. Personally, I had overcome my lack of self-esteem while performing. The key is to commit 100% to the task and do my best besides turning the negative aura of pressure into a healthy and positive one. I think, the task is the first exposure of every group members’ ability and a platform for establishing team work between the production crew aka group members.

p/s:yuen thien's and asiah's group are incredible~ i enjoyed their minor performances the best!

Review on the rhythm and movement task.
Personally, this is the task in which I anticipated the most. I have a strong keen towards the art of dancing. But like the words goes, seeing is not the same as doing it. Dancing is a very VERY challenging. I have encountered some terms which are new to me such as spacing in dancing and the formation. We had practiced for many hours; trust me, in order to complete our 7 minutes routine. After some discussion, we had chosen 4 types of songs; jazz (One Night Only), Malaysian tempo (Mahligai Gading), light pop (Are You Gonna Be My Girl) and techno dance pop (Man Eater). I guess our theme of presentation is mostly contemporary dance routine. Our group is enthusiast about this minor performance. To make our minor presentation much more synchronised and bubblier; just like the dancing, we had chose to wear colourful costumes but with a dash of familiarity. Black cardigan and jeans with colourful tees and shawl is a perfect match with the theme. Sigh, I can say that all the bruises and muscle pain after turning, jumping, bending, flexing has paid off quite handsomely because I can feel that the communication between our group members has blossomed. This semester will surely be a semester to remember folks!

p/s:really hope that everyone enjoyed our performance! priya's group is outstandingly awesome. you guys look like a real pro~ hehe

Review on sculpturing task.
Remarkable as it may seems, our sculpturing routine has only taken almost an hour to be practiced! It seems easier at first but the whole procession must be timed with the songs played as the background music. The crew has come out with a brilliant idea of a sculpture (a cheating man who was found flirting by his own girlfriend) and every one has played their role outstandingly. Nurul as the sculptor has sculpted the crew with so much emotion. By the end of the sculpturing, despite the muscle aching after having to stand and pause for quite some time, the crew has endure It seriously except maybe for Khairil, (hehe) he has accidently smiled while being sculptured. Personally, I was about to laugh at the sight in which Nurul has placed the shopping bag on his arms. It was so funny! But by the time, the whole class seemed to realise our message despite us not saying a word at all and standing as still as we could. Yahoo! I am glad that we had pulled this one out crew members! Let us perform better and better next time, shall we?

p/s: liyana's sculpture is the most haunting and mesmerizing of all. gosh! i can feel the creeps when she rolls her eyes. well done kak yana~ wink2!

Title: Sound Production

This is our 1st task. I feel so surprised on how sound that you make using your mouth would create a story! really!
I mean, I never thought that we have that ability. At the first place, I was aware of my self, i'm afraid of making silly sound- a sound that can't be recognised by anybody. huhu.
Anyway after the sound production performance I really feel that it such a good practice so that I could really project the exact sound that can be used in my major performance. =)

Sigh... I should say that I feel so tense of this task. I mean, I can't dance! I look like a robot... It really took me a lot of struggle to remember the step and also to move into the step accurately! I don't want to look like a robot that perform a dance..huhu, and I guess my groupmates have suceeded in training me to be an amateur dancer. ;) After a few times of practice, I think we have delivered it well. We enjoy the moment, there was no more tense and we laughed all the way. I believe that is the most important part- to enjoy what you do, and you will do it well.
It also feels good to enjoy other classmates' performance, I hardly believe that many of us haven't exposed to dance before as they performed their task nicely!!
One point here, we are upgrading our skill!

Title: Sculpture and Sculptor

I enjoy this task soOo much!! ;)
Though everybody only got a day to practice but I think all the group has performed well in their tasks.
I really admire Priya's group task as they really show the emotion that could be felt by the audience. Everybody felt their terror as if the scene is really happen!
Lee also looks good as a sculptor and everybody else are very good at being the sculpture.
The sound element gives the mood to the sculptor. It also give hint to the audience to guess the sculpture theme that they are performing.
When the was the time for us to perform, i was afraid that most of us lose their attention already because it was towards the end of the clss. However, all the classmate gave their support by watching attentively to our 'sculpture scene'.
First mistake- We should be more far away from the audience because I could hear they are guessing including madam jue and its hard to not to giggle. huhu..
Second one was accesorised Khai with the Victoria Secret's paperbag. It caused chaos and I did laughed already right on the moment. So, the 'mistress' sculpture was broken... =p
We really enjoy the moment, and sometimes I feel like we are actually entertaining the audience, as if this is not a course-task.
Will I love the next task?? we will see.... ^_^

Title:Sound Story-All about Sets and Subsets
Well, the journey for creating our first sound story started on the first day of Theatre class when Puan Ju entered the class and asked us to produce a story using only our mouths! It was very surprising for me and the surprise got even greater when she said that we must perform it the next day. After the class, I quickly gathered all my group members for a quick briefing. I asked them to come up with a story each when they come for the night’s meeting and they gave their assurance that they would do so. Later at night, we gathered at the college’s Pusat Kegiatan Pelajar and started to exchange our ideas. After listening to all the stories, we shortlisted two stories; a murder scene and a war scene. We tried to produce the sounds in the murder scene but found out that imitating sound is not as easy as we thought it would be. We kept trying for two hours and our efforts were fruitless. Then we decided to change strategies by creating the sounds first and later patching it up to the story. This idea was brilliant and we were able to come up with a story within thirty minutes (four times faster than our first attempt). So, we planned to rehearse the next morning before performing the afternoon. With full co-cooperativeness from the group members we were able to rehearse numerous time and we were able to produce the sounds spontaneously according to the correct sequences. Later that evening we were very eager to ‘perform’ only to know that we were the second last group to perform. We waited and waited and waited (for the moon to fall) and at last Pn Ju called out our group. We sailed through the moments within glimpse of eyes and most importantly we enjoyed each moment of it. Although this activity seems to be an easy one but it surely had served its purpose. Although I’ve been involved in group work in many other subjects but none of them require so much of commitment and hard work! I’ve learnt that a group is some sort of a set and all the members are subsets in it. We complete each other. So, thanks a lot for FUSION INCORPERATED group members. You rock guys!!!!

sculptor and sculpture

the third minor performance was hell of a show.despite of having the most tiring day, it was fun anyway. sculptor and sculpture indeed was a brilliant idea of expressing ideas and emotions to everybody. believe it or not, my group only took about an hour to practice the 'sculpture' but it turned to be a great piece of art!
the whole idea of the sculpture was about a boyfriend who cheated on his girlfriend for another girl.khai played the part of the boyfriend, farihan as the other women and me as the girlfriend. nurul moreover had successfully played the role of the sculptor, and she managed to mould us well!lol. it was tiring when we had to stay put for nearly 10 minutes, yet had to stand still with funny facial expressions.
i was really fascinated with liyana's and lee's group because their performances were awesome. i was a little terrified with liyana's character when she became the psycho killer and scared me with her eyes.
hmm looking forward for the next minor performance, which is monologue, but im not really good at it.gosh i hopei will do it well.fingers cross!

Minor Performance : Sound Story

For this particular performance, I find it quite hard to get it done with because it deals with our voice projection and making a story out of it. My group decided to make a story about a girl being posessed and there is exorcism too. We had to practice a few times just to make it perfect (although not that perfect lah).Anyway, this activity is challeging because we had to make the sounds loud enough so that other groups can hear us. Obviously, I don't even talk that loud, so how am I suppose to make such loud sounds?
But anyway we really had a good time with this activity because I never knew that my friends can make really good sounds! And I mean really. It also trained me to listen carefully to the sound stories that other group made.Overall, what I can say about this activity is that it is the
first step for me to discover how well I can focus myself in getting into a certain character and really get into it. Thats what makes the sounds that we
project to sound real and make the story more alive. I hope this semester runs smoothly for all of us especially for this course, so all the best you guys!~cheers =)

Minor Performance : Rythm and Movement

Well, how do I start with this one? First of all, I never knew I can dance until this activity came. I hate dancing and I was thinking to myself, how can dance be related to acting? Now I know.
My group had a tough time trying to figure out our choreography and finding the right choice of music for the dance routine. We also had to consider our members strengths and weaknesses in terms of the movements that they can do and not do.It was so hectic but fun though. It was a bit hard for me to memorize all the steps but with alot of practice and determination, I got through it. Our choreography had a few tradtional steps and some modern contemporary moves. As for our costumes, we wore same design shirts but in different colours layered with a black cardigan to show that we are a team. This activity teaches me slowly to focus on the music and move with the rythm. Its all about concentration. Overall, I think our group did pretty good and the most important thing is I enjoyed myself!!

Minor Performance : Sculptor and Sculpture

At first, I thought this activity was going to be about sculpting something with real materials like clay or something. But I was totally wrong to find out that the materials that we were going to use in this performance is actually our own group members!
I thought to myself, how is that going to be like? So, we brainwashed ideas to make a scene that can attract the audience. We finally decided to make a scene about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend by going out with another girl. We made the scene a bit dramatic by using some props like high heel shoes so that the girlfriend can smack his cheating boyfriend in the face. The fact that we had to stand still like mannequin made us restless because it was not easy! We had to give reaction to the sculptors' action and the expression that comes out of us is what matters.
I found out that if you really feel the character, it will show through your gestures and facial expression. I had a really fun time watching performances by other groups and they were creative in delivering the mesaage. Some were funny and scary. We all did a good job, yeay!!

Our first activity in the minor performance is sound story. At first I thought it is going to be difficult to produce different kind of sound excluding the common sounds and there is also a story should be created using those sounds. Before our practice on this performance, we came up with a story where simple sounds can be produced by each of us. We really enjoyed making sounds during our practice but anyway were tiring too. On the day of our performance, I was quite worried that I cannot be loud enough. Anyway, I managed to do it. I guess that this will help me to speak loud in the classroom and at the same moment, I think that this kind of activity can help the students to identify sound and each of them have their own interpretation.

This is the second performance in our minor performance.this performance is quite easy for me because i am used to dance for my colej activity.Even though i am used of memorizing the steps, it was difficult for me to dance for 12 minutes. It was extremely tiring but anyway i managed to perform. moreover,i guess that according to this performance that patience is very important because not everyone is able to dance in my group. Nallini one of my gouup member who was not used to dance at all, finally through this performance she does a good job.we enjoyed our performance.

Yeah! Dancing time! What a pleasure to have some of our precious time with having dancing. I enjoy dancing though I quite shame to dance in front of public. Pn. Juridah has assigned us to perform a dance. So, my group members had decided to dance in a naughty, sexy and cheeky ways. Luckily we got our very own choreographer who can teach us dance. Actually Nur Khairani who is a dancer cum our group member teaches us how to dance. We used 3 songs Hey Ya by Outcast, Boots Made for Walking by Jessica Simpsons, Numa Numa by Ozone. Two days of practice make us a little bit of anxiety because other groups working on their dance early than us. Need not to be selfish when you are dancing in a group because to make the dance in a flow and coherent you must balance your dance with other group members. I love dancing…=)

SCULPTURE AND SCULPTOR...
Doing the sculpture and being a sculptor not as easy as you see. Well, I have been experience once and I knew how it felt. To make the expression towards others is not an easy task. You must have communication to generate good sculpture and sculptor performance. As a sculptor you must have wider imagination to create the appropriate facial expression and body gestures to convey the mood. Nevertheless, the actors also play the important roles as a sculpture to do the facial expression and body posture because the audience will watch them and evaluate them later. Both sculpture and sculptor were related to each other and play important role. For this task we are required to choose a sculptor and the rest of the group members are suppose to be the object of sculpture. After the discussion, the members has spoke that I am the sculptor and they’ll be the sculpture. I am glad to be the sculptor because at least I got the opportunity to be the sculptor once in a lifetime! It is normal feeling when I am quite not sure whether I can handle my character as good as possible during the performance but eventually I was giving my best shot during actual performance. So do my group members, they have done their best in this task. Hopefully, this task may be a good practice before the major play at the end of the semester.

From the previous activity (sculptor and sculpture), I’ve learned how to stand still, concentrate, and just be patient for nearly 6 minutes. It was a unforgettable memory for all of us, I think. The theme for our group is unfaithful. Nurul is the sculptor and the rest of us are the sculpture. We choose clay as our material. At first, it was hard for me to justify my movement according to Nurul’s gesture in order to create the facial expression and posture as the sculpture. But, this activity really is about get into your role (as a clay/sculpture) and stay in focus. Lastly, well done to all the groups, You guys did an awesome job!!..BRAVO!!

On 9th July, for the first time in my life, well, actually it’s not really first time, quite several times, I’m an actress but today, I’m only contributing my voice in this only sound drama called “ The Lost Guy”. Feels like an animation actress. What I like most about this drama is that we created our story by the sounds we made and we have to act behind the audiences and they cannot watch our performance. But they have to guess about the story and since our audiences are so alert and got the sharpest hearing on earth, they managed to guess our story immediately. I got so excited because they succeeded in guessing the sound of ice cream’s bell I made. I am so proud! Haha..
I never thought that we can actually make a story just by using our voices and make a sound. It is so unique! Maybe when I am a teacher, I can apply this technique in my classroom and ask my students to do the sound drama based on the literature component we are going to study. For instance, they can make a sound in one of the plot of The Pearl.
By the way, before we performed our sound drama, we have learnt how to breathe correctly, how to produce the sound from our stomach and so on. It was so exciting, it is like we are in yoga class, so calming and at the same time, we are releasing our tension. Theatre class is lots of fun and I cannot wait to see what’s waiting for us next!

16th July- can you believe it? TESLian are going to reveal their hidden talent in dancing! For this week’s task, we have to dance in 10 minutes. I am so enthusiastic! After two days practiced, we are ready to show them that we can dance, although we cannot beat the professional dancers, at least, we have tried our best! Bonus for us, we have Khairani, the dancer to choreography us and I have contributed too in choreographed the steps, although only few. Our theme for the dance is “Happy, Sexy and Cheeky”. For the first song, we chose “Hey Ya” and we danced happily, back to the Retro era. For the second song, we revealed our sexiness in “These Boots Are Made For Walking”. We have turned the audiences to craziness where they kept screaming whenever we made those sexy moves. Believe me, everyone has their naughty side and we just want the other girls to feel confident with their selves. For the last song, we went back to our childhood in “Numa Numa” and it is a catchy song that made them wanted to move along with us.
I cannot believe that I have danced and acted. I am proud of myself and our group. I am surprised too to watch other group performed. It is great to watch the quite person in our class to dance in front of us. Indirectly, this task had increased our confidence and we have proved that we are not just a boring English teacher. We are going to make learning interesting and full of excitement.

Today, 23rd July, we were doing our rhythm and movement. We were assigned to do a sculpture using wood, stone or clay as the materials. Our group’s theme for today is “Hot”. There are five characters that is the girl who is blowing herself played by Khairani, the girl who is wiping her sweat played by Wani, the girl who is protecting her face using her hands played by Nadya, the drinking girl played by me and the girl who is fanning herself played by Atikah and Sophia played the sculptor. At first, I was afraid that people might not get to guess our characters but they got to guess it even from the first figure. So glad that they managed to guess it correctly!
It is fun to watch other groups performed their arts as they got different ideas on how to make their figures became alive. I love to see expression on the faces and it is very challenging to maintain the expression until the sculpture finished all the figures. It is tiring to pose at the same position for a few minutes! Luckily, our characters are easy to be guessed so that we did not have to pose for another few minutes. In conclusion, I really enjoyed our class for today since it is not really tiring like last week.

Minor Performance 1: Sound Story

This is our first task for this semester. For me it is something new and I am looking forward for such. In this task each group will performed without the audience looking, but to rely on their listening skills. Later the audience will guess what each sound represented and the whole story. I was so happy to be part of the audience and really enjoyed all the other groups performed. I found out that each n every group was so creative to come out with such a great performance. So, round of applause to all of us!! I am looking forward for our next task.

My third minor performance was called sculpto and sculpture. It was also a group performance where we have to create a sculpture. One of us acts as the sculpto and the others as the materials. This time we did well for the performance. It was quite difficult to keep the reaction for some time. The concentration is very important. Luckily, I got a quite easy character. Other groups also did a great performance that day. I was quite impressed with some of them. For example Rachel’s group. In class, they are the group that always laughing. However, for the performance, they manage to control their emotion. Their statue also quite interesting. After doing the activity, I can see that facial expression is very important especially for theatre performance.

Minor Performance 1: Sound Story.

In this assignment, I feel like it gives us a lot of motivation to stand out in front of others. Besides increasing our self esteem, we also learn how to be creative, to use variety of sounds to develop sequence in a story. As we all already knew, to be a teacher, someone must be brave enough to be in front and also creative in order to deliver the lesson, so that it will attract students’ attention. As for my group, Fusion Incorporated, we are all have no problem in team work, as we all already knew each other for quite a long time, and we had understood each and every members’ attitude. We had divided the task in making the sound fairly, according to each member’s ability. I enjoyed the task very much, and I think we had done a great job, by adding the element of humming, which make us different from others. This three to five minutes task really gives a big impact and helps us a lot in building our confidence. I am so impressed that all of the groups have their own creativity, in making the story unique from others =)

Minor Performance 2: Rhythm and Movement.

My first impression towards this task is it will be really enjoyable and have a lot of fun, but after having the first training, I feel like it is very difficult. As for me, it is the first time I dance, and what is shocked me is that, we will dance a heavy song, which need full of concentration and playing with our emotions, plus the unusual movements. Maybe for the first timer, like me, it is so stressful, but after having two or three times training, I started to like it, and enjoy it. During the performance day, I am so impressed to watch all the performances. There were really enjoyable, and we did follow their steps during their performances. And I am so sure, that all of the TESLian enjoy the day very much. No one seems to be shy and passive. And what is surprised me a lot is that I can’t believe that there are so many hidden talented in our batch =P

Minor Performance 3: Sculpto and Sculpture.

Unbelievable!!! At first, I did not understand what actually the task is all about. I can’t imagine the real situation might be during the performance day. After given the explanation, and having the discussion with my group members, I start to imagine the real situation. At first, I think that it will be much easier, but what worried me very much is to play with my emotions. I am the type that can’t be serious all the time, and I know that if someone psycho me, I will be in a big trouble. After having the practices, and get the motivation from my group members, I believe that I can do the best, and overcome the audience whom will try to disturb us in our concentration. And I really satisfied with my group’s performance as it is really different from others, and I should praise other groups for making the day and the “elements” alive =)

SOUND STORY (9th July 2008)

The sound story performance is my first experience in theater. I was excited at first because I never perform using only sounds produce by our mouth. It is a good experience as I learn to make sounds that I never tried before in my life during the performance. It is fun and I enjoy it every second.
The activity helps me in sense that I learn to trust myself by producing sounds and depend on me only when I make the sounds. It can help in my major performance as if I learn to trust myself now; I can do better on stage at the end of the semester.

RHYTHM AND MOVEMENT (16th July 2008)

The dance performance is my second performance for theatre. I was having a lot of difficulties in learning to dance because I never dance in my life before. I did suffer of muscles pain for a few days and for the first time I bought my own muscle pain cream which I never bother before.
It was fun learning to dance. My group members help me a lot throughout the practice session. I realize that I did slow them down but I force myself because I can see the determination of my group members in teaching me. (I love you guys!). Well, I do hope not to dance again because I cannot take the pain; I was having muscle cram the whole night! Well, I do enjoy it despite the pain.

SCULPTO AND SCULPTURE (23rd July 2008)

I think this is a nice activity because I do not have to move or dance or even speak. Well, it is a bit challenging as I have to remain in my position for a few minutes but it is fun.
This activity can help me control my own face expression and emotion as I am a statue. It will help in major performance as I did learn to remain my emotion and face expression for my character.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 1: SOUND STORY

I heard about making sound from just using our mouth and voice is interesting but I have never tried it before. It was just my expectation and it is really true. With the help of everyone in my group I made it so well even though I am quite nervous. Who can imagine that, by using our own mouth we can make up a story and let people guess what the story was. It was a real good experience in my life in order to improve my skill in acting. Thus, I hope it can improve my voice production as well.

MINOR PERFORMANCE: RHYTHM AND MOVEMENTS

Firstly, I would like to thank Madam Ju because gave us a chance to dance into the rhythm. To me it was really great because I have been dreaming to dance for a long time and I think this is the right time to do so. It also brings out our talents in moving our bodies according to the music. From this performance, I noticed that all of my friends are talented in dancing but they just don’t know about it or shy, just like me. Throughout the process before the big day, my group 'The Romeo and Juliets' have worked together in choreographing and practice. It was really tested us mentally and physically because it took us a real long time to memorize the steps and make it synchronized. However, we managed to go through the test and did quite well, I should say. Congratulations to my group members and myself…

MINOR PERFORMANCE: SCULPTO AND SCULPTURE

In this time performance, we are given a task to make something different compared to the previous performances. We are acquired to make an art of sculpturing using our body movements. One of my group members has to act as the sculpto while the others acted as the materials (clay). At first, I thought it was difficult because I have no idea on what to do, but later after Madam Ju explained, I got it and it was actually not really that hard.
On the performance’s day, we were not like before anymore but more focus. In just a few hours of training, we made such a great sculpture, I guess. Other groups did well with their own sculpture, but we were slightly a bit different because our sculpture’s theme was about ‘unfaithful’. Anyway, I’m really proud with the result.

Never did I ever expect myself to pull through this week’s sculpture and sculptor assignment. I could never ever stand still for a second without twitching let alone looking down the ground without feeling nauseas. I made it!! I tried the breathing technique and I guess it helped a little bit; at least I didn’t pass out. This assignment was really so good. Standing still and not blinking would be really helpful for my major performance and any other future theatrical attempts especially if I have to play dead. My group and 1 came up with our volleyball ball theme after a few unsuccessful attempts. It was a bit difficult at first, setting up the positions and actions but we soon got the hang of it. We practiced many times and did the best we could. After watching our video, I think we did quite well but personally I think we still could have done better but I am not complaining. My favourites on that day were Faezah’s group, Linda’s group and most of all was Khai’s group. I think Jolin did a brilliant job with her expressions, I respect Mohana’s rolling talent and Liyana’s scary eyes were really horrifying which means AWSOME! Nothing can beat Khai’s group though, they we really creative and funny. I really liked it. I have learned that being wood like is extremely difficult unless you have control of your body but either way I really had a hard time staying still. I guess all learning experiences are difficult at first but at least I tried and am slowly starting to develop some respect to all professional dancers and theatre actors who are able to control their limbs, movements and expressions. I will try to impose this experience in my major performance and my future lessons.
Congratulations to my course mates, all of you did brilliantly.

Title: Rhythm and Movement-Applications of Sets and Subsets
Right after we have finished our first minor performance-the sound story, we began to find for suitable songs for the second task-rhythm and movement. Well, finding a song may not sound difficult but finding a song that reflects our group identity was difficult. So, again on Friday, we had our group meeting and discussed about the songs and finalized three songs. Since, most of us are still novice in dancing, Mohana agreed to help us in choreographing the steps. Frankly speaking, I was not sure whether I could dance or not since I was not from the ‘dancer’ category but I decided to give it a try for the sake of my group. The next morning, we gathered around 10 a.m. in Pusat Kegiatan Pelajar and Mohana started to show us some initial steps and how to go about with it. I went ‘wow’ that’s too much for even a dancer. Then, Mohana rationalized that we must do something unique in order to be different and thus could shine among other groups. We started to imitate those steps and believe it or not I’m a natural talent. I was able to catch up those steps fast and all my worries were turned into ashes when Mohana herself told me that she couldn’t believe me dancing so well. So, the next few hours we had a lot of practice and we managed to finish choreographing for almost one song. Kak Yana’s boyfriend; Faiq was kind enough to come down early morning and record our dance movements. Then, we replayed the sequences and were quite satisfied with our product. Then, we decided to take a break and have lunch together and went to Putra Food Court and spend our time there. Later, we begun dancing at two p.m. and by six p.m. managed to polish our steps and we had a small break for dinner and prayers and resumed again around 8 p.m. Then, the whole night was spent rehearsing and polishing our steps. Waking up the next morning was hard for me but with a good alarm system (number of miscalls from my group members), I was able to practise. Well, after numerous rehearsals, the day of judgement came-my heart was pumping hard, maybe because it was my first time dancing on stage and being evaluated. After the performance, Pn Ju commended our group for the eccentric song ‘Asmaradana’ and she was surprised to know that only Mohana is a professional dancers and the rest are first timers. Well, again the set and subset theory worked and we began to understand the concept much better. Personally, this task not only requires us to understand the concept but we managed to apply some aspects of it. I also see a lot of improvement in other groups. They were also dedicated and spending hours of practice and the results were marvellous. Bravo TESL 5!!!

Title: Sculpture and Sculptor- Newton’s Third Law
Wow, this is the assignment that I have been waiting since the beginning of the semester. Not because I like sculpting or anything but because I saw a lot of space for creativity in it. I was waiting for the whole week for Tuesday for Pn Ju to explain about the performance and to my surprise the room for creativity kept adding on since Pn Ju told us that we could use different kind of materials for the sculpting task. She even demonstrated some themes and how to go about with them. So all of us gathered that evening after Pn Ju’s class and started discussing about the theme that can be used for our performance. We agreed to continue with our theme violence in which we wanted to capture a murder scene. But we realised that time was limited and in order to move on we needed to decide who is going to play what role and what materials are they going to be. Thus we came up with a list of characters in the murder scene namely the murderer (Kak Yana), the wounded victim (Linda), the defending victim (Aza), an escapee (Mohana), a shocked person (Rini), a screaming person (Maisarah). So it was obvious (without any prior consultations) that I had to become the sculptor ...the psychic sculptor (as what Iskandar and Eunice call me). When we went back to college after Educational Technology class, it was already around 5pm. I realised that I had no much time left. I gathered all my group members in the Malinja TV Room and we started brainstorming. The first question that came up was how I am going to bring all these materials into the centre of the stage. So, I tried one of my favourite mime acts-the rope pulling on some of my members and I found out that Aza could coordinate well with it. Thus, I decided that Aza would be the wood and I decided to use the rope on her and I wanted to use a little bit of dramatic action and reaction on Linda (clay) when I would first use the rope to pull her and when I realise that it’s fruitless I pushed her with a bit of force. Then, I decided to roll one of the ‘materials’ since wood can be bulky and heavy. So Mohana (wood) volunteered to roll and after rehearsing a few times we managed to create the impact on the scene. Kak Yana had to be clay since she has to hold a knife and it was easier to bend her. Thus, I asked Kak Yana to hug Linda in the beginning and I would separate them (indicating I’m taking parts of the clay to mould the murderer and the rest is used for the victim). Later, I decided to rotate Maisarah as she was also a piece of wood and I went blank on what to do on Rini. Then, I thought that since she is petite, I could easily carry her and use some sort of dramatic facial expressions during the process. After the whole process of sculpting ended, I was relieved that I not only receive positive comments from Pn Ju but also from my course mates. I was also impressed by some of the groups that performed namely Iskandar’s and Nurul’s group. I liked both the sculptors since they had some element of comedy in it and they materials followed Newton’s Third Law- action and reaction. So, all’s well ends well – I guess. Hard work does pay off!!!Good luck for your monologue guys!!!

Sound Story

Hmm..Our first was quite challenging.I have seen this sound story kind of things over the web and personally, I thought it was simple until I need to performed it myself!I talked with Priya during the semester break to get more clearer picture of what we were supposed to do. Priya was so excited, describing everything on her mind over the phone!Luckily my mum didn't say anything becauseshe didn't noticed that I was using her phone!when we get back to UPM, we started to rehearsed and came up with another different idea and shouted at the top of out lung near the basketball court at Kolej Canselor.People who passed by looked at us like we were mad.At first I was a bit cautious but later on the feeling faded.I lost my voice due the bomb and gun firing that i had to do.The whole group tried so hard to come up with the most perfect sound and we did! Thanks to Priya,Mohana, Ca'ah, Rini ,Linda and Aza for your co-operation and for the good times that we had together.

SCULPTO AND SCULPTUR is an interesting activity. I have to act as a material and my friend will sculpture me to be a statue. I really love this activity since it involves our creativity and our focus.
First, we decide to be a statue that have en element of war. Based on a slogan ‘SEE NOTHING, HEAR NOTHING AND SPEAK NOTHING’, we have to transfer ourselves to be a statue of war. One of our group members will be the sculptor, the one that have to design and build the statue. Other group members, which are six of us, will be the materials or the sculptures. Then, we make a basic decision that three of us will stand at the back and another three of us will be at the front.
The three people at the front are made from clay. So the sculptor has to mold the materials softly and gently. These three statues will represent the victims of a war country. The victims will be in the position to run away, mounded and crying.
The three people at the back are made from wood. Thus, the sculptor has to use hammer and other utensils to shape these hard materials. These three people will be the outsiders that know about the war at the country. They do not want to see, hear or say anything about the war. So, they will be in the position to close their eyes, ears and mouth.
In addition to that, we not only have to remain our body to be statue alike, but also our facial expression for a moment until our classmates can guess what we are doing. It really requires our patient.
As the conclusion, I really enjoy this activity. It helps us to remain still on the stage although some of our friends start to make jokes and try to make us laugh. If we are in the real stage performance, this activity helps us to continuously play our role and ignore any interruption from our audience. This activity also helps us to build our focus on what we are actually performed.

In this third week, it is about sculptor and sculpture. I think, this task was quite interesting because we were not using any dialogue to present it to the class. It is all about your movement and your action followed by the music and someone who acts as a sculptor will create our movement. All of us will be like a doll. As for my group, we acted as a block of ice and one of my friends carved us until we formed a word Happy. After we finished our performance, we had a best compliment from our lecturer - Pn. Juridah because she said our expression was so good and that was what she was expecting from us to do for this task.

Today’s minor performance is sculpture and sculptor. This time I feel a bit relief because this time, the task is a bit easier compare to last week’s. Unfortunately, this time we do not have much time to discuss of how we are going to do it due to other members were busy. So one day, in Linda’s room, as we having dinner, Faezah just roughly told me about the plan. She also informs that there are materials needed for the sculpture such as clay, stone or wood. Then, we decide to have all three elements to be in the performance. On Monday, we randomly plan the positions and what each sculpture was doing. We had ended up with a simple idea but funny and creative. Thanks to Faezah for the idea and Jolyne for being a good sculptor. I feel the challenges in this task are to stay static and it is so hard for me because I could not control my facial expressions. I would say that this is a good experience because I can know what my limits are and I can do better than I expect. I also feel that my stage fright had slowly fading from time to time due to the past performance. Other than that, I really love our buddy group’s performance because the song in the background was so cute. Not forget Sophia’s group because the background music sounds like clubbing atmosphere. OMG…the next minor performance is so scary but I am looking forward to quickly finish it soon.

Dancing is something that I am not expected will be part of this course. But that does not mean I took this task for granted. Eventually, I felt glad with what I have done and I would like to thank all my group members (Betty And Lulu) for making this possible. At first dancing seem to be hard for me as I am not that ‘slim’… But soon enough I learnt that I am starting to enjoy myself and just let myself flow with the groove. One of the factors may be the choice of songs in our performance (“Hey Ya” by Outcast, “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Jessica Simpsons and “Numa Numa”) by Ozone. Another factor would be the synchronization between the members. We work very well as a group and each and everyone ideas are take into concern. I would consider this task as successfully done. I believe this task has boosted my confident level.

RHYTHM AND MOVEMENTS
Everybody knows that, I am dancer but this is the first time I have to choreograph a song which is a combination song and that is not simple especially teaching my friend who actually don’t have the dance skills. However, it is surprise that my group member can dance very well. I learn a thing that it is not how talented you are but actually how committed you are. I’m very proud of my group member. They willing to learn the hard steps that we use in our rhythm and movement. In that time, only one thing clicks in my mind “EVERYBODY CAN DANCE LA...”.It gives a very good experience for me. Now I realize why my dance master scolds me and how he feels when he teach me “Waa…I’m sorry master” Thanks to PN.JU. Anyway, many groups perform on that day. I love Min Hui’s group performances. It was really nice. I really love their 1st song. It is really interesting. I hope I can learn Chinese dance one day… he he he.

SCLPTOR AND SCULPTURE
Sculptor and sculpture….what is all about. We really don’t have any idea of it. Finally, all of us get an idea how it is all about. Actually we don’t have enough time. But I’m very happy that all of us can perform very well on that day. In this task, I feel that the bond among us get strong and I love it!!! Khai’s group, they perform very well. I like the end of their performances. It’s really nice. I think that the advantages of having a guy in a group. You can do very differently and also Eunice group… wow. It’s so simple and very nice. Easy to identify what are they really doing. Actually many group perform very well this week. I really enjoy it because each week we learn something new, something different. It is hard but ENJOYABLE!!

This assignment was quite a challenge, I think. To make sounds using our mouth is no easy task. After practicing 2-3 times, our jaws got pretty tired. We had fun, though. It was hilarious. At first, we were just playing around before realizing, “Hey, this is a pretty good idea.” So we arranged the sound to create a story.

I find that using sound to develop sequence in a story can be very useful in ESL classes. When reading a poem, the reader uses only one of the five human senses. However, if we use sound in addition to the reading of the poem, it could help them understand the poem better. For example, in the ‘Lake Isle of Innisfree’ by William Butler Yeats, the writer talks about escapism and finding peace. By recording the sound of crickets and linnet’s wings and the sound of lake water lapping by the shore and playing it while the students read the poem, we can convey the message of the poem. Like what we did in class, we guessed the story by listening to the sounds produced. Here, we use sounds to assist in the telling of the story.

It is indeed a fun way to learn. This minor performance has opened up my mind to various ways of teaching. By making learning fun, and enjoying myself while I teach (and learn from my students at the same time), I believe I can share my passion for English with my students and I hope that they will gain a lot from my classes.

I was feeling actually down this week because I miss home. You see, Rainforest World Music Festival 2008 is on 11-13 July and I really wanted to go. I was absent-minded the whole time, just hoping that I could hop on a flight back home. We did the dance the whole weekend since Friday. Waking up at 7am was not my idea of spending the weekend. I tried my best to be involved with creating the routine, suggesting when I could suggest, and shutting –up when I should shut-up. Whichever it is, my brains were clearly left in Sarawak.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself. I find it a fun way to let your guards down once in a while. Dancing wasn’t really tough for me although I am not a good dancer, but I am not keen in memorizing the steps. I can practice thousands of times and will still mess up the steps (a very good reason why I did not take up cultural dance my siblings before me).

Dancing can be a way of dramatizing a theme. For example, heartbreak. The music chosen should be slow and the dance move should express a broken heart. However, the dancer should play with the facial expression. Dancing is like a rhythmic non-verbal expression, whatever it should be called. My favourite dance routine was Min Hui’s group. Good job guys… It was original and fantastic.

As amateur dancers (none of us has actually danced), we were so happy when Pn. Ju positively commented on our group’s performance. It is like an achievement to know that we created something and succeed in making it happen. I guess that we wouldn’t be happy enough with that kind of comment if we were experienced dancers and praised for routines we took from an amateur group of dancers.

Who could believe that studying this course would actually require us to do sculpture? Well, but this is what we had on Wednesday. It was truly another physically challenging activity to do apart from performing rhythm and movement last two weeks ago. But I could not deny, doing sculpture is indeed easier. I have no idea why this activity was perform but all I know is that it has testes on my level of endurance towards being standing still without any movement for some moments. I could still remember myself pretending to be a sight seer on a beach with my one hand down on my waist, putting the other to cover my eyes from the massive sun shines. My hands were shaking tremendously throughout the whole moment though I tried not to make it so obvious. The worst was to maintain my smiling facial expressing for approximately six to seven minutes. Although we were not given much time to practice and discuss about the plan for the sculpture as a group, Faezah already had a brief idea on what we should do for our sculpture. Thus, we have already practice the day before we were given more information on the sculpture activity. I am glad we manage to pull through and made a humorous yet embarrassing scene out of it. It was certainly a great experience as I know you will never have this if you were to be studying other course.

Comment on my minor performance.

Actually, I already knew about this task since last semester. I heard that my TESL senior said sound story is the first minor performance this semester. Since then I wondered how it will be like. I was very nervous during the semester break. Now, the day finally arrives, my group members agree with my idea for the sound story. After finishing four minor performances, I am glad that I am halfway to reach the end. I admit that I can not wait for this semester to end since all this minor performance are tiring and they need everybody’s full commitment in order for them to run smoothly. However, I am very thankful to my lecturer for her undivided attention to us, TESL 5. All this minor performance actually will be very helpful for the major play. I feel that one day I will be missing all this stuff.

minor performance: dance and movement.

this was the performance that make me sweat a lot.fiuh....this is the tough one but yet it is so interesting. we as a group have a lot of fun when doing it and from this also we can see who is really contributing in giving idea or not during the rehearsal. we practice for just about two days. sometimes, when i saw other groups performed, it just seem like very different from us because all of our member don't have any experience in dancing. especially me.
the day has come. we are the third group to present and i am very nervous. we our turn has come, we i have set my my just I'll do my best.after we finished our performance, the first thing that puan jue comment is "fahimah, work on your stamina." i do feel very exhausted at that time and it means that i'm getting fatter...i have to do something with it. but, overall our performance is okay yet too simple. the performance that i like the most is from Jasmine's group. their dance is so simple, not too many step but fun. they really seem like they are enjoying it and not doing it as they are forced to do it. as a conclusion, even though this minor performance is tough, i personally having fun in doing it.

Our third minor performance, sculptor and sculpture, is really interesting! (but i prefer the dancing) Our group did something quite simple, about an old sculptor carve a word 'HAPPY' from the ice. I like this activity; it does challenge our creativity. I am glad that Pn. Ju gave good comment on our performance. I like LeeSiam's group performance very much as it is really funny. Another group that I impress of is Priya's group. Priya the psycho sculptor doing a murder scene. It is really scary and I thought I would have nightmare for it! (luckily i don't) Anyway, this activity is really interesting and I do enjoy seeing others' performance.

Dancing is healthy. I got nice tummy after practiced it for about 4 days. I thank to God for helping our group by reducing the difficulties of this minor performance. I think Madam Jue knows that none of my group members are dancer. Teamwork is the keys to make this almost-impossible task become reality. I can see that this task has successfully lower my anxiety. So, there is no need for me to be shy in next minor and major performances. I am not a shy person however this minor performance has fully removed a tiny virus of shy that hiding inside of me. one more thing is, this task has improved my creativity in creating and inventing the dance moves (in a newbie world only).

i have done my monologue yesterday. actually, i am not satisfied with my work because i think i can do better than this. The title of my monologue is 'Pink Shoes'. It is a story about a girl who wants a new pair of shoes but her mother does not want to buy it. She is so upset with her mother. Basically, in my monologue i want to portray the feeling of anger and happiness but i don't think i have demonstated all this feeling successfully. I am also forgot that i need to behave like a girl. In that monologue, my gesture is like an adult. Hopefully, i can do better next time.

Our second activity was rhythm and movement.Hmm, i was a block of wood as I could remember.I couln't dance at all. Thanks a lot to Mohanna being being the choreographer for our group. When the idea of the dance was first brought up, I wasn't sure if I could do it. I mean, Asmaradana and some other Indian dance?Omigod! This gonna be tough. Indian dance are usually fast pace and need lots of concentration and smooth movements of the body. A block of wood like me could not do that!Anyway, I gave it a try and with helps from my team members, i finally manage to dance, even though our photographer laughed real hard at me. Mohanna did a great job in training us to dance like a pro dancer.Yes, there was some disagreement about the steps and all, but we finally did it. Good job girls!

my first minor performance is sound story. When i was given this task by my lecturer, i had no idea how sounds are related to theatre but on the day i performed it in front of the class, i can clearly see the connection between the element of sound to a play. I am very grateful to my lecturer for willingly spend her time to watch us that day. I knew my capability, so i am afraid i can not do it well.During practising this task, we faced difficulties since we do not really know the sound in a jungle. When we tried to produce the sound, it sounds funny. Overall, I personally think our sound story is a good start for my group and we have given good commitment and support to each other

Our third assignment was sculptor and sculpture. It was an interesting activity which requires our creativity. In this activity, the role as a sculptor was given to me. At first, I was a bit blur with the whole idea of being a sculptor. I just can’t imagine doing those things. Thank god, I had a teammates that really supportive. We came out with a scene which it is about a man who been cheating his girlfriend. During our performance, we used a few items as our props like high heels shoes and paper bags. Actually, for this performance we did not have much time to practice, but at the end, I think we had done a great job. Overall, this activity is really about how we as a teacher to be, learn to control our emotion, our gestures and be more concentrate/focus in doing our job.

Minor performance 2: rhythm and movement

For the second week, we were assigned to perform a dance within 10-15 minutes using a compilation of 2-3 songs which portray our group’s identity. The dance must synchronize with the rhythm of the songs.
I admit that none of us in our group has talent in dancing. But, we have tried as much as we could to do the best for this course. Along the way, we kept practicing to as much as possible to remember all the steps.
Our group did not workout well that day. But, we take it as a challenge to our group. From this performance, I realized that it is all about all the members of the group enjoying the task given, has full concentration, and teamwork.
This activity also teaches me how to decrease my anxiety level when I perform in front. Whether I like it or not, I still need to do it.
In class, this activity can be perfectly successful to decrease students’ level of anxiety, increases their self-confidence, and can make the class more fun and lively.

Minor performance week 3 – Sculptor and sculpture

For this task, we were assigned to choose a sculptor from our group members and other members would be the sculptures later on. We were given opportunities to choose the materials and theme for the sculptures that we want to create.
We were given only one day to decide our theme, what would the sculpture be when it’s done (according to the theme) and also do the practice.
Our group, Elle-Rosa Production had chosen war - see no evil, hear no evil and talk no evil as our major theme and the materials is from wood and clay.
For me, this is some kind of training for us. It is a challenge for us to complete the task because in the future, whatever it is we will face this situation when we work. So, this will train us to work faster in a limited time given.
We had our practice only once and I believe that most of the groups also experienced the same. On the day of performance, I think every group presented very well. Each group has their own creativity and made this task interesting to experience with.
I am glad and satisfied with our group performance even though we had no time for practices. It is worth it. I can’t deny that there was some part that we have to improve with. For me, I think I am lack of concentration and confidence. I think I am not into the character I hold very much. This resulted I can’t do the facial expression very well. So, I need to improve on that.

Minor performance week 4 – Monologue

For this week, the task is a bit different from the previous one whereas it is an individual task. The task requires us to do a monologue in public. It also requires a brochure.
I learn a lot from this task. It helps me to slowly overcome my nervousness when performing. Before this, hearing about performing also can make me feel nervous. What else if it in public. But now, I still feel nervous when performing but it could be handled compared to the previous time. Still, I really think I need to workout on this a lot. In terms of facial expression, use of stage, the parallel between the situation the character face with her movement and also how to get into full grasp on the character I hold.
I also find out that I am easily get distracted by the environment. When I were performing, there was a lot of people just came. Maybe they just finished their class. Some of them stopped by to see me performing. I became more nervous. I kind of lost in the middle of my monologue. I ended up with I left out a couple of main points in my script. But it’s ok, though. I tried my best and I will keep on trying to improve more. The most important thing is, the audience can understand the message I want to convey.
This task really helps for major play that we will perform especially in getting full concentration and in overcoming nervousness. This is because, for me, this time I experienced a performance in real public. Before this, it was only in class and in front of my course mate and lecturer. So, more or less, it gives the picture on how the major play would publicly be and how to perform well in the major play through this week experience.

For this week, we were assigned with an individual task which is a monologue. Each of us needs to think of our own monologue and perform it in front of our lecturer and course mate. I’m not very good in performing alone in front of the crowd but since I don’t have any options, I have to do it. I decided to do a monologue about my first date. I was so nervous that I couldn’t do my best for my monologue. But I take Pn Juridah advice as guidelines for the next minor performances. It was an interesting activity in a way that I can see a lot of different monologues that came from different aspects of life from young to older generation. If this kind of activity being use in the classroom I believe students will enjoy it. It gives chance for them to perform individually in front of the crowd and at the same time it requires them to think of their own ideas. This activity is a very challenging to the students as they need to do it individually. Students will be able to develop their courage and speak at the front. Not only that, they also develop their level of confident where a lot of students nowadays seems to have less of it. Therefore, from my own point of view, I believes that monologue should be include as one of the activity in the classroom especially subject involving literature.

I feel that today’s biggest loser is me. I screw up this time’s minor performance. Thank God that this is an individual task. I am so regret of not enough preparation and enough planning. I think I have problem of being into the character. I could not ignore the stares of others especially from the passerby and also I am very self conscious and aware of the surroundings. I also find it difficult to concentrate on my task because of my phobia of being in front of many pairs of eyes. I am so regret for working hard enough for this task. This experience really an embarrass and a screwed up one. Argh…I seem to be like a fool in front of everyone. I think my favourite performance would be Geetha’s because she really apply the entire element that are needed in this task. Her monologue was so real that I felt her frustrations and sadness too. Besides that, Joyce was really put effort in this task as she had her props along with as well as Fei Ying. Jolyne was great being a drunker because her timing was great and she ends it with a funny ending. To me, it was interesting.

Blog monologue
At first, I was very worry about the monologue performance because I am not good in acting. Especially this time around I have to act it out alone. Luckily, my friend gave me an idea to act as a prostitute. I think the character is quite challenging and creative. So, I decided to work on it. It was quite a long and hard journey to brainstorm the script, work on the props, costume and background music. Other than that, I also have to put my shoes into the prostitute character. I tried to imitate their posture, gesture, eyes movements and so on. After the performance, I felt all my hard work had been paid because Pn. Juridah said I had done a good job and she hopes to see my improvement in next performance. I also appreciate the comment that she gave, I will try to practice focus on audience. I enjoyed the process of this course as I can sense I have gradually gain experience and confidence in theatre performing. In addition, I can also improve my English.

for this time minor performance, we were assigned to build a statue. At first, I keep on thinking how it’s going to work, do we have to use something-I mean something like clay..then, I have a clear picture about this task after listening to pn.ju’s explanation. Your explanations really answer my question and I am quite shocked actually to know that we ourselves are going to be the materials. But I think that would be fun..
my group decided to work on ‘war theme’.inzah will be the sculpto and the others as the materials. The materials are wood and clay. Rina, kak auni and I will be the clay while emi, azila and liz will be the wood.
Based on our theme-see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil, three of us will be the victims and three more will be the outsider.
On the day of performance, we got some technical problems. We cannot play the song at first but fortunately the problem successfully solved. Thanks God!
i like this activity so much as it challenges me in expressing my feeling. I have to show that I’m in pain and at the same time I have to calm Rina down. Rina was the crying girl.
To me, this kind of activity really needs full of concentration and I should get more into the character in order to make it looks real. i think i can make it better for the next time.to me, facial expressing is one of the important elements in theater.so, i have to work hard on it =).

It was really enjoyable to perform and watched others’ performing ‘rhythm & movement’ performance. I was wondering afterwards, what other dance moves
we’ll have to create for tribal dance. It was difficult enough trying my hand at choreography-well, I never was involved in dances. Not the dancer type-and what else I need to find as resources. I see lots of people who have talents in dancing. Saw some real cool moves there on the dance floor. Smooth flow, creativity. Nice!
Well, our salsa was not totally lost. I love Latin dance moves. By my own personal definitions; “creativity is the thing hard to define” And it always is in art. As I watched others performed, I learn a lot. You can create lots of moves to your dance’s choreography. A lot of things can be manipulated-physical moves, music, themes, props.
To my team members if you’re reading this; You guys did good! Lessons are meant to be learned. A one-time stumble doesn’t mean you’d fall flat. The sun will always rise tomorrow side by side with the bright skies, people. It always does ;)

It’s hard to stand still!! Its hard to stand still!! With my face straight…hahahaa…
Our theme of war come from one of our team member. Then, we developed it further. Murder scene! Classical Indian dancers! Summer day! Not to mention the sculptor! You guys’ face added more fun to your sculptures-comical, frustrated, hard at work sculpting, magical (priya, did you use magic dust, perchance? Where can I buy some of it? ;P) its’ quite difficult to create a war scene-since we’d like to do sculptures that people will understand and the whole pictures delivered to the audience effectively. So we were mixing and matching everywhere, lots of things until came up with something good.

after I watched the play by Fauziah Nawi, I started to understand the use/how we can use the movements in sculpting performance because there was one drama [singa] where the characters froze in between dancing, singing and narration.

When you have to freeze, really froze ;) don’t blink an eye!

Monologue FEVER!!! Everyone were talking about monologue. Monologue here. Monologue there. It even crept into Tech Pendidikan class. Imagine that! Every other matter had to be put on ‘pending’ for few hours to think about monologue, of course!
Should I be freaky or something? A little berserk? Internalization…how much deep? I did consider the flexibility in monologue. How much could I stretch it? That’s the problem. In the process, I got a little confused with soliloquy. I always love poetry. Maybe I should do a sad monologue. Thus, I settle on a theme of hope. I tried practicing before I performed-trying to act depressed and in despair. I worked. But when all eyes on me, my mind went a little blank (uh…..where was i…) anxiety, I guess.

I can act despairing and in distraught, but I swear to God I cannot master the artful skills to cry in stage performance. Thanks Pn. Ju, your comments are helpful in making me realize a few things I need to improve. I enjoyed it; I have fun watching others too. Varieties of character/persona were assumed to deliver the monologue.

And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all

Monologue
I’ve done with my monologue yesterday. Yeah!!finally…To me, this time around, it is bit different from previous weeks as this is an individual work! Oh my God, that word ‘individual’ makes me feel nervous and keep on thinking about my performance for days. I wonder if I can make it in front of my class.this activity also makes my life a little bit stressful, days before the performance time. I think about my monologue every seconds, every minutes, every hour and while eating, while bathing..before sleeping..huhu. actually I decided earlier that I am going to make something about love, but I didn’t get the full script until the day before the performance. I just didn’t get the whole idea.
My title for my monologue is ‘falling in love’.ahaks! I choose this theme because I love to work on something about ‘love’. Love to me is something very valuable and interesting, wonderful, and sometimes we just do not know how to explain it.
Actually, until the morning before the performance, I still did not know how to end my monologue and I did not have the script. I just prepare for the beginning of the story. That makes me felt more nervous. I tried to practice in front of my friends but I cannot. I keep on laughing because well…I am a shy girl. am i???hahah.
to me, this task is really challenging as i have to control my nervousness and show to the audience that i'm not nervous.i believe that this kind of activity can be use in the classroom in order to build our students' confidence.
after doing my monologue, i realized that i have to improve more on my voice projection.i need to throw my voice louder to make my performance better.i'm happy when pn.ju said that my facial expression was good.
Overall, I enjoy with this activity so much!!!

For this week we are doing Rhythm and Movement. It is basically about dancing and it makes wonder a bit as the last time I dance in public is when I was fifteen year old. All of my feeling mix up thinking about the performance which is clash with my first presentation in other course thinking what if I didn’t do well in both tasks.
We all discussed about the song selection on our first day meeting and also we did a little homework by downloading the video clips on easy dance movements in youtube. The hardest part about this task is that the dance movements need to be coherent with the songs that will be playing. To be honest, we all thought that 10 minutes is too much for us to choreograph the dancing steps, so we start bit by bit. What so special about my group is none of us ever take part in any dancing performance before; therefore we take all of our group member ideas into account. It is a stressful week for us, pushing ourselves to the limit, woke up early in the morning and practiced dancing till late night. Thank god Pn. Ju classes were canceled on Monday and Thursday, yet time still flies. During practices we all have to throw away our shyness. I have this awkwardness feeling inside me rehearsing in public. However, it is essential for me to rehearse in public in order to able to get into the character of the song without any distraction, in a way it also helps me to be a good performer to perform in public.

I think, this is the tough week as for me. I said this because the task is about monologue. I do not know what to present until the day comes. Nevertheless, I take it as a challenge. During the performance, I felt too nervous until I do not know what to talk. I kept on wandering and closed my mouth. At the same time, I forgot my dialogues! I felt terrible at that time, but tried to manage it very well. However, I did it. I have tried my best to do it. Then, my lecturer commented on me. She said that I kept on closing my mouth and doing too much movement. I should use the props at the back and sit at the chair in order to make it good. Then, I thanked for her comments and hope that I will do better after this.

The task for this week is Sculpture and sculptor. From what I understand, it is basically about actions and reactions. Again we need to act out. My head is full of idea the moment Puan Juridah explained about the task. Later, late in the evening we all did a group meeting. Hazeline and Iskandar cannot make it so we all did the discussions without them. I can’t remember which of my group member came out with the idea of alphabet, but we all agree on one thing for sure, it is simple and need not lots of practice as we all do not have time to do other meeting.
I agreed to download the song from the net. Yet, it is frustrating knowing we cannot surf the net service is not available, so i had to download it the next day at FPP.
It is a bit crazy thing to do to download the song on the day of the presentation and also to make the songs coherent, but yes!i made it with the help of my other group members.I edited the all the songs into one songs, we practice a bit, and finally we made it, everybody able to guess the wording that we are trying to forms. Iskandar was a great actor indeed!A big round applause to him from me!huhu..

In week forth,we are assign to the monologue assignment. We had to do the assignment individually and this had made me really tense. I do not have any idea and too embarrass to talk alone in public so i decided to do a phone call, so it would not be weird for me to talk alone in public. I surf the net and combined the idea to the event occurred in my life with a little bit of modifications to it. I found out that I will do the monologues on Wednesday, 2.00 p.m to 4.00 p.m at DKAP foyer. I am the second last person to be presented for that session.
When it is my turn, I could not help myself from feeling very tense until I do not even realize that my shirt flip and part of my abdomen can being seen by my friends and Puan Ju (How embarrassing!). Next, when I am on the stage, I forgot all the script(OMG!). Due to this I problem, I have to make my monologue short, plain and simple. Puan Juridah comment after I perform is that I did not loose myself well enough, the facial expression, the intonation is there but she cannot feel what I am trying to show them. I somehow know that I am not giving my 100% in this performance. However, after I finish performing I can feel the burden suddenly being lifted away from my shoulder and I am not feeling tense anymore. Surely this is not one of the easiest performances I ever done.

For the second week’s minor performance, we are required to dance with the rhythm, with the beat, which is called “Rhythm and Movements”. We started to practice on Sunday, where we chose the songs and created the steps. A few members of our group came up with the idea of using the ‘Chicky Dance” song. We were all agreed to the song as it is a very enjoyable song. Moreover, the steps for the song are not so difficult. Our next song was ‘Stupid Cupid’ by Mandy Moore. This song is a very energetic song where supposedly throughout the song we need to move our body, our legs and our hands.

Honestly, this task was a bit difficult to us as none of us is dancer or some sort of involve in this dancing thing. It was a headache trying to create the steps for those songs. However, with the cooperation and ideas from each one of us, we managed to create and actually dance with the songs. When we performed, it seemed like most of our classmates enjoyed our performance and overall, I am satisfied and proud that we actually did it!

For 3rd week, we are required to do ‘Sculpture and Sculptor” where one of our group member will be the sculptor and the others will be the sculptures. Well, we decided to pick a theme on eating, where the situation that we were trying to create is the situation at a Japanese restaurant. At first, Fara was the sculptor. However, after that, we had changed the person who was being the sculptor which was Fahimah. We chose clay as our material, since we think that it is easier to mould clay. For me, this task was a little bit difficult when it came to the point where we had to stay in our position while the sculptor was shaping the other sculptures.

On the day of the performance, due to some mixed up of the turn, our group were the last group to perform. Honestly, at that time, I was a little tired and nervous after watching the other groups’ performance. Nevertheless, we did it and that is what matters.

For 4th week, we are required to do a monologue individually. At first, I had no idea about how a monologue would be like. For the first few days, I was completely clueless about this week’s minor performance. However, after watching the play by Sanggar Teater Fauziah Nawi (STEFANI) in Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, I started to have some idea about what I need to do for the monologue. Yet, I still cannot think of what character I was going to play. Only a few days after that, while I was walking to class, an idea came to me. I decided to play acharacter of a young woman who has just lost her husband. I told a few of my classmates about the idea, and guess what? They laughed at me. But it was okay, I know that they did not mean to offend me. Maybe they think that it would be funny if I play the role. Haha..

Then, it was time to perform. Before my turn, I tried to get in the mood of the character. But I don’t think I managed to. When it came to my turn, I tried my best. And I can’t believe I did it! Wow, I was really proud of myself at that time. I don’t quite have a loud voice and honestly, I was afraid that Puan Ju and the audience will not be able to hear my voice. However, during the performance, I think that they can hear my voice. What a relief! Alhamdulillah, I can’t believe I did it!

Sound story
During the first week of EDU3202 class of Theatre in TESL, we are assigned to make a sound story as the first group activity. I found that this assignment was very interesting where story can actually be told by using only sound. I see this task as a very good group activity because we can use this type of activity in classroom for it does not require us to use anything and it is funny to see all the weird faces. Thus concentration is very important in this task. I enjoy this activity.

Rhythm and Movement
Second task of our minor performance was rhythm and movement, in other word dancing. It is hilarious because I never dance before in front of anybody. This activity require time and effort, and to me this is the time to test our group teamwork spirit…Herm…the rhythm that we use starting with a techno music, then move to 70’s music, Hindustan and ended with dangdut. The song show the identity of our group making this task happens. At first we dance as a robot, then we shake our booty to the rhythm and finally we learn how to ‘gelek’. It is very funny and I can see that my group as a mysterious group because we never practice in public places as other group.

Sculptor and sculpture
Our third minor performance, to begin with it was Sculptor and sculpture .we did not have much time to work on it but we manage to do it well I assume. My group decided to choose a group of girl playing beach volleyball scene. In this task we decided that I became the sculptor and the rest of the group members became the sculpture. This activity requires us to freeze for few minutes until the audience can guess what actually we are doing.

Monologue
Last Wednesday 30th of July 2008, it was my turn to complete the monologue task. I have been thinking for sometimes about what I’m going to do for my monologue and finally I came across what does it feel to be mute. Mute person is normal too; the thing is they cannot talk. In this task I knew I must fully concentrate on what does it felt to be mute, because if we really into the character then the monologue is a success. This task is one way for us to trust in ourselves to complete a task on our own and know where is our strength.

Monologue is a dramatic soliloquy or literary composition in the form of a soliloquy. On Friday night, we were asked to watch a theater at Dewan Bahasa Dan Pusaka. My story is merely as same as the second play- about a mother. It gives a lot of inspiration for me to act my character of a mother. I know that this will be a tuff job.
Friday is my performance and before my turn, I sit and watch my friends monologue. I like Jolene, and Eunice monologue. They include comedy inside their monologue. Hoe-Yi and Sapphire even make some props for their performance. I like the way Priya show her voice projection. She includes crescendo and diminuendo in her tone. Great job my friends.
Actually monologue is a challenge for stage presentation. You need to be bravo enough to talk alone in front of the audience. You have to be focus on the stage and use the space smartly because you will be the only one on stage. You have to attract each and every audience to focus and pay attention to you. It’s really challenge for everyone. On the other hand, it is also a good practice for us before our major performance. This is because once we can over come the stage fridge in our monologue; we will be no problem for our major performance.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 3: SCULPTO AND SCULPTURE

For the third minor performance, we have been assigned to act as a sculpture and one of our group members will be the sculptor. This is really an interesting activity for me because we have to pick a theme and stand still until the others can guess what our theme for the sculpture is. My group chooses “Summer Day” and it’s really works. Especially being under the hot sun! (on that day), we really did our best. With a disco background music, and Sofia as the sculpto, we really into the mood of summer and HOT! We enjoy this activity together and it’s important to build our confidence level and cooperation among others when doing this fun activity.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 4: MONOLOGUE

Oh, this is the most challenging task for me during this course so far. For this task, all of us have to do it individually while others are watching. That’s what monologue is, right? At first I don’t have any idea what to be or what am I going to do, but then something cross my mind and I decided to be a “sarcastic cosmetic surgeon”. I don’t know why, but I like to give it a try. Yes, of course I was relieved after my performance but I do receive many encouraging comments from Pn.Ju and I do agree with her. Maybe I’m not so confident in front of others and not getting into the character totally. However, this is a good start for me to improve myself and I really appreciate all the comments.

I thought rhythm and movement was tough, but then again, there is this monologue which is way harder. It was so hard for me to speak alone in front of so many people and not to mention, in DKAP foyer as well. I was lucky as when it was my turn, most people were still in class. When it was Fei Ying’s turn, everyone was already walking around and looking at our performances. It was so embarrassing and awkward; I could even hear people saying “Are they crazy? They look so stupid”. How I wish if they could empathize our feeling and get a chance to feel the torturing stress we are undergoing that time. However, it was a nice training site for us to get used to such harsh critiques and overcoming the noises around you so that we can fully concentrate on our performances. All I know was, when you want to finish your performance fast, you would not realize the audience in front. I should say that I was too afraid and stage fright that I have forgotten the audience in front of me. I just perform my monologue the way I wanted it to be. I guess it will help a lot when you are going to teach in front of a big class of students. I am just glad it is over, another weekly activity down. How many more to go?

Response on Sound Story....
On the first week of the lesson, we are required to work as team to create a story. Sound interesting, but, it is not as same as the story that we usually know.. we have to create a story by using only vocal sound...hmmm, it's very challenging as i think i don't have talent in making any sound..
Back to our task..at last, we decided to make a story which based on the situation of the war. the story started with a happy melody.. then, followed by the sound of kids and their parents laughing. then, the sound of bomb exploding.....kebaabooom...... and, out of nowhere, 2 soldiers(evils) appear and hit the kids and their parents. then the 2 kids killed and the parents crying.. that's how the story ends.
It was very challenging but it was very interesting as I remembered the time we practiced to make all those sound…there was no pressure since all of us enjoy it very much…. On the performance day, I was quite nervous whether our story can be guessed by other group as I can see other’s are really great, interesting and can be guessed…but some are not…but everything going smoothly since everybody can give their opinion very right, same like our idea.
Overall, I really admit that this activity was very interesting and enjoyable. Next activity???...huuh, scary…

Response on Sound Story…..
The first activity for this course is the sound story. For me, it was very interesting since I never experienced this kind of challenging activity.. making the story just using your vocal sound???? At first, I was quite surprised and thinking whether I can do it well.
Quite nervous.. but everything become Ok because all my group members are very supportive and they make it very enjoyable…looking at other groups’ performances, I really impressed that they can do it very well and creatively… their story line were clear enough to be understand and guessed.
Our story was about the war… situation when the evil people come to destroy the happiness of one family (2 kids and their parents)…
Most of the performances can be guessed correctly, but some of them are quite hard for me to guess the real situation. What about my group’s? I think, everybody can easily guess it as it is just the common sounds included in the story. I was relief when everybody was telling the right situation, as same as our idea. Fuuh, very relief. Then, no more panic, nervous or all those uneasy feelings, just I’m very afraid to think about the next activity, RHYTHM and MOVEMENT…………how could

What I think about Sculpto and Sculpture is it is an easier performance compared to Rhythm and movement because it does not require lots of dance steps but only to stand stiff like some type of materials. Although it is easier, I prefer dance because it has more movements and not just only standing stiff at a place to wait for the sculptor to sculpt our shape, limbs and facial expression. We have to stand and act as materials such as clay, wood or stone.
For my group, our material is clay. Yuen Thien is our sculptor and he is going to sculpt a volley ball match. For my group, I think it is quite easy to guess our title by looking at the posture of the sculpture. Deepa and Sapphire are putting their hands together while I raise both my hands trying to defend. Yuen Thien has to sculpt us when the songs are played. I find especially the first song is very suitable because it reflects that he is gathering ideas of how to sculpt each of the clay. We have to stand and wait patiently for our turn to be sculpted. Along the way, we have to control ourselves from any movements and laughing where I find that I still can endure. As for looking at one another to the eyes, that is the thing that I can hardly bear and want to laugh. Therefore, I look to the other side.
As for other groups, Priya’s is the scariest sculpture which I think everyone agrees. Linda who is hurt at her stomach makes me frightened. Jolyne’s group is very relaxing and is clearly shown that friends are having vacation at the seaside. The most interesting sculpture that I saw is Khairil’s group. I like to see the facial expression of each sculpture. The fight between Jasmine and Farihan for Khai is very captivating. Jasmine even holds a high heel shoe and wants to hit Farihan for seducing Khai. I also like the facial expressions of the passers by who are looking at them with a shocking expression holding some shopping bags.
Overall, each group has their own unique performance and I find that sculpto and sculpture is very artistic.

Minor performance 4: Monologue

I find that monologue is very challenging for me because it is individual work and I have to get into the character I am acting to reflect the characteristics. First of all, I want to give myself a pat for putting in effort to find materials to prepare for props which are the chain, iron hand cuffs, iron ball and the horizontal black and white shirt. I am very thankful to be able to produce such props.
Why do I choose a prisoner? I did pray for ideas for a character and this thought just came into my mind. Although at first I was quite reluctant to act as a prisoner, I have no choice because it is better than none. So I have to get things done.
I am glad that I am able to get through in this monologue performance but I am not satisfied with my performance because I was really like talking through all the time and lack of getting in to the prisoner character. It is because I was shy and nervous and keep thinking the faster I finish, the better it will be. I don’t really know how to get myself into a character and act very naturally as though no one is looking as me. That was what I dislike most because I was shy to act my prisoner character in front of so many people. Sigh…I don’t want to have this self-conscious attitude again in front of people. I want to change from this. That is why after the performance, I was not very happy and satisfied of my performance.
As for others, such as Jolyne, Priya, Geeta and Lee Siam, I really admire their attitude of being their natural self in front of such a big crowd of people. They dare to shout, laugh, hit the table or cry. In my heart, I was saying, “Wow! I also want to be as brave and natural as them and not to be self-conscious.”
As a closure, I learned a lot from monologue that is being natural in yourself and be proud of the character you are acting no matter what character is it. Be brave and be proud of your own character. Don’t be so self-conscious of what others think about you.

Sculpture and sculptor...
Last Wednesday, 23th July, we were assigned to perform another minor performance as our practice for theatre. We were asked to do sculpture. In my group, there are six of us. Five of us were the sculpture and only one of us was being a sculptor. Our group chose a theme which is ‘hot sunny day’ for this performance. So all of us have to freeze as a sculpture with the decided position except the sculptor. I was the second sculpture being scuplted by the sculptor. My position was sitting and one of my hand was placed on my forehead to show that it was a sunny day. We have to freeze like that for several minutes, around 6 to 7 minutes and my hand was shivering because I could not stand for it anymore! Even though I feel like losing my hand, I must act like nothing happened. Then, we stayed still like that till our course mates guess what is going on. It was so lucky when my course mates guessed what we are doing correctly so that I can put my hand down. For a moment, I felt like I have no right hand because I can’t put my hand up again! But it only happened for a couple of minutes. After that, everything became normal again. From this task, I learned lots of thing. As a performer, we have to act like nothing wrong is happened even we feel like dying on that time! Everybody must feel their character. So the audiences will enjoy the performance and the performer also will feel satisfy with their own performance.

Monologue...
For this performance, we have to perform personally. I was so nervous actually because I am not familiar to stand alone in front of many people, but after all I have proved that I could overcome that problem. I chose to be a missing girl in a shopping complex. I have practiced for the performance, and the duration was 3 minutes, but on that performance day, it turned into 2 minutes! I was so confused where was another 1 minute? Maybe because I forgot to make it longer or else I missed to say some words. Frankly, I was not too satisfied about my performance because it did not come like my practice. They were so different! At that moment, I realized that there is nothing easy, and I need to work on practice and voice projection. I cannot use high pitch voice in my performance because, according to Puan Ju, I will lose my voice if my performance is half an hour. So, I have to choose the tone of voice correctly to make sure that I can stand for the performance till the end. Moreover, I was so impressed watching my friends’ performances. They are awesome! For some of them, I did not expect that they can do as excellent as that! Wow! I enjoyed the performance… In addition, we have to choose the correct character as well because not all of us can perform well according to the character. We have to feel it, feel what the character’s feeling is. Try to express it so that the audiences enjoy our performance.

Our first minor performance for our theatre subject is sound story. For most of us, it is quite interesting where we in groups were assigned to perform a story with sound and without dialogue, or even words. My group came out with a story of war. Frankly, during practice, we found it quite difficult to project just sounds but along the way, we manage to do it as a group and what is the most important is we really had fun doing the task. On that performance day, we enjoyed our performance and others too. They were really creative in constructing stories of sounds. The audiences were asked to close their eyes and give full attention to the sounds performed. Then, they will guess the sequences of story. It was such a great activity which I was never thought before. We seem to learn that different people will interpret sounds differently. I might use this task as a class activity in the future because I am very sure that students will enjoy it the most compared to common story telling.

'Rhythm and Movements'

I found that our second minor performance for our theatre subject is such a tough task. We, in groups were assigned to come out with dancing performance which named Rhythm and Movements. We will select our own background song and cerograph the steps on our own creativity as groups. Seven of us in group were actually thinking if ever we could be able to cerograph a dancing performance and obviously to perform the steps, since none of us had any basic in dancing. At last, we came out with chicken dance steps medley with stupid cupid. It was a fully cerographic by seven of us. We were enjoying those practices. The night before the performance, we had actually performed our dancing in front of other group in order to arrange the technical system. We had the chance to watch other’s performance. That night, we had a feeling that our dancing is a little too simple. We had actually sit down and thought at that last minute moment. But we came with a conclusion that we had enjoyed our practice and it is cerograph by our own creativity. That would suppose to expose our own self. On that performance day, we had a really great time. We had actually prepared some accessories for our performance. Other groups seem to give lots of energy during the dancing since the steps were extremely energetic. I was proud to see most of our course mates actually have the talent of dancing. Good job, guys. I am looking forward to our next task, the spirits are getting hot here, and I am kind of excited.

3rd minor performance - Sculptor and Sculpture (23/7/2008)

I think it is a simple task for us compares to dancing, but when I sweat under the sun without moving, I feel that it is not that easy. Our concentration is very important and this is something that I lack, I will laugh when the audiences laugh, so from the beginning I request to have the laughing face. I really like the performance of Priya’s group, I think all their posture and facial expression is hard to maintain but they still able to do it very well. They really did a good job!

This activity challenges our creativity. I admire Eunice’s group for using ice as their material. I feel it is the most special material compare to the other groups.

From all the minor performances, I learn that I can make my students to enjoy the lesson in different ways. Never complain that students do not pay attention in the class, they always pay attention, but it depends on whether the lesson is interesting to them. If our lesson is boring, they will lose interest in our class. Vice versa, if we can plan more interesting and attractive activities in our lesson, our students will love and enjoy our class.

4th Task- MONOLOGUE

i have done my monologue performance! being a 2nd person to perform wasn't easy because i didn't have any chance to watch others do their monologue first. anyway, just do it! my monologue is about a lady army who is in dilemma of being in the world of men domination without her willingness.
I should express my anger but madam Jue said she still see me smile though I project my anger. sigh...
I don't know where all the emotion have been hid.
Anyway I'm still enjoying it!~
When i watch back the video, I could see the flaws and Im hoping I could do better in my dialogue!

Sound story…

Make up story by using a sound only?! Not a dialogue or not even a word? And the sound should be only produced by your mouth? Ohhh…am I able to do such things? I am not sure with my capability of doing those things. But, that was the first task that had being assign to us for this subject by our lovely and beloved lecturer, Puan Jue. After she’s given us the task and all sort of instruction, my brain start to think of what should we do to fulfill the entire requirement that had being stated during the class. Errrmmm….after the class, our group gather and met for the first time for the first task. After an hour of discussion, we have made a decision to make a sound story about the situation in an unprotected area, and guess what? I am the one that have to make a very cruel sound, sound of bomb. ‘ BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!KEBAAAAAABOOOOOO!’…fuhh.. Sometimes, during the rehearsal, I even can’t remember how the bomb should sound, and thanks to the Almighty because I have very tremendous team-mates and they will always remind me of how the bomb should sound. Overall, I am glad to have this kind of activity in this course, which I never ever expect to have this before. I enjoyed the activity very much! Even though our group is not the best group for this task, but I would say that all of us have given our best for this task. To all of my group members, well done, dude! We have a very great time together….

Monologue! At last it’s over. For someone who talks to herself most of the time, I really had trouble playing my part as a wicked thief. I messed it up a bit because I had trouble with my wicked laugh. HAHAHAHA! But other than that I think I did quite fine minus my not so manly voice. I was really nervous as I was the first and I am not such a good actress. The others in my segment were awesome though. Kudos to Priya, Eunice, Geeta, Manesha, Shamini, Choo Ting, Min Hui and Lee Siam. They were really good with their monologue. My favourite was Choo Ting’s as I think she really pulled it off as depressed drunkard. Besides them, the others were alright too. I think mine was like the worst because my character was a man but my voice was so female. The experience was good, I think I did enjoy some part of it and thank my lucky stars there wasn’t that many people at the Dkap foyer when I was performing. Now I have to prepare for my next scare, dialogue. I hope this course will help me overcome my stage fright.

Sculpt and Sculpture
Our third minor performance was sculpt and sculpture. I really liked this performance because I am the kind of person that cannot be quiet even for a minute. And I easily can laugh but in this performance I could not both but this assignment has actually helped me in controlling myself. I think my group did well and what made us nervous was that we were the first group to perform but I think we nailed it. I really like priya’s group because they really did a good job. I think they were very realistic.

Monologue
Last week our fourth minor performance was monologue. This is an individual assignment. I was extremely nervous because I just hate to act in front of people alone. My monologue was about a girl who is being unfaithful to her boyfriend and she eventually flirts with other guys. I chose this monologue because I believe I will be able to bring out the character well (not because I am unfaithful to boyfriend or what. I don’t have a boyfriend but I do flirt). When it was my turn, I was extremely nervous and Pn Ju had to wait for a while before I calmed down. I think I did a good job although I was a bit distracted by my friends. Pn ju said that I could have done much more better than this and she even told me to challenge myself in the next assignment. I really liked Jolyn’s monologue, she was very realistic. Manesha was the best, she really acted very well.

Minor Performance 4: Monologue
This assignment is the toughest assignment for me, as I must stand alone in front of others, and do the monologue. Many says, that monologue is always refers to the crazy people…am I??? As I watch most of my classmates’ performances, I can say that they all done a very good job. For me, I did not satisfy with my performance. Like Pn. Jue had said, it is not even a one minute performance. It is really short, because I’m not prepared. It is my mistakes, and hope that I’ll improve for the next task; dialogue, with my collogue Aza. Until meet again =)

MONOLOGUE
Oh man, it’s really scary… very scary…But I take this as a challenge for me…I realise something before I do this performance. It’s about something within me…there is another person in me. When comes to acting she will represent me, and I believe everyone has that another person right? I have to hide myself in order to make her out. During the performance, I can’t make her out 100%.I can’t get into the character so much. Anyhow, I ‘m really enjoying the task. Today is the day, that I realise how tough the acting is… phew! HARD!It’s a new experience for me… hopefully I will do well for my DIALOGUE… Good Lux guys! **mogi**

monologue...how would i describe it?? only people did this know how it is feel..scared..afraid..nervous..all sort of this kind of feeling sure came across when we did this task...seriously...i was nervous too.since waiting for my turn i started to be panic thinking of what going to be happen when i'm in front of the audience.
for this task i came up with an idea to became a young pregnant women who had to stand all the way in the commuter train. no ones offer their seat to her and she kept complaining all the way.
at first i thought this character would be easy because all i need to de is just dressed up like a pregnant women but it actually was quite difficult character. as what pn ju's comment..you have to be like the real pregnant women and you need to look at how the walk and act exactly as what they did.yes..it is true..putting a small pillow under your clothes does means that you had sucessfully act in your character. however, this task was really enjoying as i saw many of my classmate did it well and sometimes i think that acting is one way of how you showed your real color...
anyway well done to all of us!!!

Minor performance 5 – Dialogue

This week, we need to perform a dialogue between two people. I and Malarvizhi had planned to make a story about a small accident involving an innocent girl and a very arrogant young lady.
In terms of preparation, we have had prepared the synopsis, the brochure and the script as required before the performance. The process was a smooth one.
Personally, I am satisfied with our performance yesterday. We have done our best for it and I think it’s worth it. And of course there is some part that I really need to workout with. It’s the same thing as in the previous performance which is concentration and voice projection.
I should be very serious and be an irritated young lady for my performance. But instead, I was smiling. Actually, I didn’t realize that I was smiling at that time. This shows that I don’t get into the character I hold completely. That is the thing that I really need to workout with.
For the script, I think I’m ok with it since I can remember my line. But, I think I need to improve on the tone. However, I and Malar cover each other because dialogue is about interact and getting to know your turn. In fact, even one forget his line, he can easily catch up with it by knowing the other person’s line. In my opinion, signaling non-verbally and verbally without the audience notice it is a very good talent when there’s a sudden change in the dialogue and when you stumble or forget your line in a performance. Like me and Malar, when Malar didn’t come out with her line, I used her line to make her remember. But of course the line should be considered natural for both of us to say it or otherwise it would sound awkward in front of the audience. And when I kind of a little lost, she would use her eyes to signal my turn. Whatever it is, I enjoy this performance and thanks to my partner for this performance, Malarvizhi. You’ve been a great partner!

pretending to be your real self is hard work!!at least that is what i felt this week during my dialogue performance. i worked with Lee for this particular minor performance, and since our brains were too jammed to think of a story, we decided to play ourselves. Being annoying is harder than i thought. i mean my friends tell i am an extreme pain but to play myself, it took a lot of self control to actually keep a straight face. hahaa. the breathing technique which was supposed to help my small voice become loud makes me dizzy so i really have no idea how to improve my voice projection. i am trying my best but nothing seems to work. Acting is really difficult for me, i am really having a hard time even though i enjoy myself. i need help with my voice projection, someone help me!! Major performance is nearing, and my voice can hardly be heard let alone my miserable acting talents. it has nothing to do with self esteem. i have confidence i am just plainly not good at it. The rest were really good. and over time many are improving, minus me i guess. okay i am going to stop beating myself up, at least i did my best, that is all that matters. i think since the semester started, the only thing that has myself in and looks good is the brochures. such a stressful semester!

Response for the Monologue
Eunice Ong Luyee 138803

On the 31st of July, I have my monologue performance. When I first heard about monologue, I am a bit worried as I do not know what to perform. Until one day when I went to my hometown’s pasar malam, I saw a ‘Ah So’ selling char kuey tiaw, then I suddenly got the idea to perform as a typical char kuey tiaw ‘Ah So’. I put some comedy element inside my performance to attract people’s attention. I am quite happy as most of the audience were entertained during my performance. I would like to specially thanks to our lecturer, Pn. Juridah for her comment about my performance. Then thanks to Iskandar as my choreographer, Hazelynn for giving me some additional ideas and Min Hui for helping me to draw my eyebrow. This activity does increase my confidence in performing. Last few weeks performances were performed with group members, so I do not feel so much embarrass. But for this monologue, we have to talk with ourselves in front of people. Thanks to God that I manage to perform well (in my opinion lar) in this monologue. Anyway, I will try harder in my next performance (dialogue) with my partner.

Response for the Dialogue

My partner for dialogue is Iskandar and we are acting as an intolerate couple. We quarrel for just a little small matter (miss a train) until I wanted to break with him (as he mentioned about my big butt). Anyway, this activity is challenging as I have to become someone that is so not me. I have to become a girl friend that is so called grand and annoying. I hope I am not like that now. =p Then Iskandar is a guy that cannot take it anymore about my so called grand behavior and he mocked me, until I cannot take it and ask for break. I am not so nervous during the performance (compared to monologue) as there are two of us performing in front there. It is an enjoyable performance for me as I do not have so much chance to punch someone’s face. ( I punched Iskandar’s face in this performance.) Yet, I still have weakness in this performance, which is my voice projection. I should talk louder so that the audience can hear me. I will work harder in this part as for my micro teaching also I have to speak clearly so that others can hear me.

Dialogue was more fun and comfortable as the stress is shared among you and your partner. At least you know your partner could help back you up whenever some parts of the dialogue has suddenly been forgotten to curb the awkwardness. I think it is right on Pn. Juridah’s comment that I should work on the movements of a snake. I looked like I am moving like a mix up fish and monkey movement compared to being a snake. When I review back the video taken, I realized that it was really quite a terrible work there. Jolyne and I did not practice much, but I think performing spontaneously is part of an art too. Although some parts of our dialogue were rather embarrassing, at least it has created some elements of comedy. Dialogue was not as scary compared to last week’s monologue whereby you will have to do everything out yourself. This week’s task was more of a relatively stress free mission for me. I think I have finally learned to enjoy and take things a little bit more relax or should I said I am numb to it? Whatever it is, again, I am glad is over.

After monologue, now it’s time for dialogue. I did the dialogue with my partner, Hazelynn. At first, she wanted to play weird role for the dialogue but no, I could not do that kind of things. I mean her initial idea was she will be a shaman and I will the one who is being possessed. I don’t think I could play such character. So we changed our plan. After many ideas came up, we decided to play characters as roommates, who are quarrelling with each other. We had some discussion about the storyline and then the day of the performance came. I was so nervous as we had not had much preparation and practice for the dialogue. We were just telling each other to do our best and alhamdulillah, we did it. Even though some of the script came up spontaneously during the performance, I think we did quite well. However, I really need to work on my voice projection. Puan Ju commented on the intensity of our character. Yes, we could have done it better if we were more prepared. Nevertheless, it was really fun acting in front of others. I had never thought that actually I can act. Hmm, maybe I got some talent in this acting thing. Who knows…

Third performance: Sculptor and Sculpture.

In this performance, I am the sculptor. i have never been given such a main role in any performance before. Puan Jue tell us about this quite late actually but luckily we can manage get the idea even in one day and we practice it that night instantly. During the performance day, we are the last group to perform. At that moment, I feel very nervous because I am the leader of that performance, but I will do my best. The interesting performance that i think the most is Jasmine's performance. I can see the flow of the story that been conveyed by them. during our performance, i think that we can do it very well and people can guest what are those people doing.

Dialogue is a conversation between two people. This week is our dialogue week. I find it hard to do a dialogue. You have to memorize phrases and because it takes turn to talk, it makes me so nervous because once I forget something, I will mix up everything. This make me can’t sleep well for the day before the dialogue. My partner is Sapphire and before the dialogue performs, we brainstorm our storyline. We have lots of idea that was plain and some are hard to act. Due to don’t know whatever reason, suddenly think of something interesting and special. At last, we decided to come out something creative. It is a dialogue between a dog and a chicken. Animals’ thought. Haha. The story is funny and interesting. I think people should like it especially with my stupid make up and the stupid bark. Sapphire also makes a cute cock of a chicken. Dialogue actually helps student a lot when it comes to performance. We can’t act without dialogue except for the deaf people. My course mates are so creative and they really done something interesting. By listening to dialogue, it helps students increase their listening skill and it make attract students.

Our second activity was rhythm and movement.i really enjoyed this activity because I am used with dancing for programmes. Our performance lasted or 15 minutes, full length. It drained off all the group’s energy as our movements were fast according to the songs that we chose. Rachel was injured and we were forced to change the whole formation of the performance in just two hours time. We went through a hard time but we did profit from the activity. We were told that our performance was really nice but we have to choose the songs in order to help us in rest.

Task: Dialogue

I've done my dialogue with Liyana.
I don't know whether i've portray the real feeling for my dialogue task. I've spent the day listening to the same sad song just to be into the mood. huhu.
However, I still do not satisfy with my performance, I really need to learn on how to portray a good facial expression that is appropriate to the context.
Being the last pair to perform was a nightmare! its like i'm counting every minutes up to my performance. hee..

Minor Performance 5: Dialogue

Dialogue is another minor performance and it was held at DKAP foyer. As Puan Juridah has said, voice projection and the right breathing are very important to produce loud and clear sound especially in semi open door area like DKAP. What about at Panggung Percubaan? It will require a louder voice projection.
The name of me and my partner, Yin Chean’s dialogue title is “Disconnection”. It is about conflict between a mother and daughter named Jelly. The reason I choose Jelly because I like names that start with “J” and “Jelly” is unique. Both mum and Jelly could not connect well because of misunderstanding. Mother wants daughter to stay at home but Jelly creates a lie and wants to be freed from her mother’s control to go out with her friends at night. Conflict happen when Jelly persists to go out while her mother keeps ordering her to cook curry chicken.
As for the internalization of character, I still need to put in more effort to get into the character I am acting. However, Shamini commented that I was able to become a fierce character. I am happy about it because normally I don’t look fierce. Besides that, I was having an enjoyable time to team with Yin Chean who acted as my mum. Although it looked strange to see her as my mum and have to use different kinds of facial expressions, tone and gestures, it was still an enjoyable experience. The only set back was voice projection. I have to speak louder in the coming performances.

In week 5, I worked with Syamimi as a partner in the dialogue’s task. We performed a dialogue entitled ‘Just a Haircut, Please!’. Both of us moved to DKAP to perform our dialogue presentation. While waiting for Pn. Juridah, we practiced our dialogues. So did my classmates. We were the sixth group to perform. When our turns came, we acted as good as we can. While we were presenting the task, I noticed that we had skipped some of the dialogues that we had practiced before. After finished the task, Pn. Juridah had commented us that we had some problems in voice projections. Then, she started to talk as what we had done when we perform the task and it was very funny because she kept mentioned the phrase $9.99. We cannot stop laughing at that time and Syamimi had become the victim of us because we kept repeating that phrase at her and it was her dialogue. I think, we have to work on our voice projections and practice it in the future.

for the dialogue i paired up with geeta.at first we came up with the story of two girls fighting for a man but then we found it very common.so we decided to act as husband and wife instead.i really enjoyed doing my dialogue.our story was about a husband having an affair and the wife found out about it.when she confronted her husband,he admitted and after quarelling and everything they decided to divorce.geeta played the husband and i was the wife.i really thought that i will screw up on the day because each time i practiced i kept forgetting my lines.but thank god, i managed to do it although i didn follow the script.i enjoyed working with geeta.i think we have some kind of chemistry.im really happy and satisfied over our performance.i enjoyed eunice and iskandar's performance.it was funny and cute.as dialogue is over im looking forward for the next task.don't know how it is going to be.but whatever it is for the time being im enjoying this course.

Soon after we all had finished doing our monologue, another task is waiting for us. This time around, we need to do dialogue. Thank God we all worked in pair. So I team up with Ami. We decided to make a dialogue between two best friends that fought over small matter. In our case, we argued on who deserved to get controlled over a remote control. Sometimes such small stuff can make the harmonious friendship turned into chaos. In the end, friendship ends. I still remember comments given by Puan Juridah about my acting. She said that I smiled all the time where actually I need to put different kinds of expressions like irritation, senile and hatred. I myself noticed that I smiled but I couldn’t control it. I’m very bad in acting and I don’t think it’s going to work for me. But for the sake of my own grade and Casssiopeia especially, I’ll give my best shot. For the class activity I think dialogue is a good activity for students to get involve in. it gives chance for them to communicate with each other and as consequences they’ll be able to improve on their speaking skills especially. Not only that, they can expose themselves to social interaction if the topic of dialogue has got to do with their surrounding. All of the students will be involve so no one will be left out. In short, I would like to say that dialogue is an activity that is not only fun but it is also a medium for students to cooperate with each other. In my opinion, the most important part is students will be able to gain their confidence talking in front of the public. At the same time, they would also get a chance to show their talent in acting. Therefore, teacher should include dialogue as one of the classroom activity as it is a very beneficial activity for the students.

Dialogue
I feel this is not as easy as I think in order to perform a dialogue until I had experienced it by myself. Dialogue is more complicated and difficult than monologue. It requires the cooperation between two people, once one of the partner forget his or her dialogue, the other partners reaction must be fast to continue the dialogues smoothly. In order to present a dialogue, I am not only have to memorize my own script but also have to remember the partner’s speech. If not, I would get lost and do not know the cue and cannot link my dialogue successively. For my case, sorry to say that I forget one or two lines of my speech. Besides that, maybe this is our first experience in dialogue so my partner and I cannot react fast and connect it properly. I wish I can be more sensitive and more aware on stage. In conclusion, I had gain experience from it.

The minor performance for this week are not that tenseful because it’s a dialogue. It an something that we do everyday with our friends, roomate or the toilet cleaner aunty. The challenge is that there must be a conflict so the first thing that come to my is relationship between parents and children are the most common. Faezah suggested to do something like we have the same man as our fiance and we caught him with another girl. I agree because this conflict seem easy. So then, every we go, we try to act out a scene and then another scene. The ideas flows costantly as we go on and on with our dialogue. We figured out that we need rings as our props and we thank Sophia for her rings. There is problem with our ideas because there too much too much ideas and it is hard to choose the best part. Finally, we managed to create a story line with our costantly flowed ideas. I admit that my weakness is my voice were not loud enough. I also realise we did not face the audience because we were too caught up with our dialogue. I couldn’t hold my laugh during our little ‘fight’. Facial expressions was my weakness too. It is hard to be serious for acting.
