Talking to yourself in front of the public? That is scary and quite embarrassing! That’s what I thought when Puan Juridah asked us to do a monologue for our next task. At first, I didn’t know what I am going to talk about. Then, I got an idea; I’m going to act as a maid who dreamt to become an employer’s wife, to take over her role as a mother, wife and of course, an employer due to all the hardcore she done in the house. On the day of the monologue, I am quite nervous because I am not prepared yet, but when it’s my turn to act, I tend to get really nervous and I guess I did not do very well, I got stuttered and I think my voice didn’t came out loudly. But, I am learning and I promised to myself to do better for our next task. Maybe I should warm up before the play, not should, I must warm up, just like what Puan Juridah taught us for our very first class.

Last time, we were doing our monologue and for this week’s task, we were asked to do a dialogue with a partner and my chosen partner, none other than Khairani, my best past partner in crime. We were acting as a receptionist and a customer. I am the dedication receptionist who doesn’t dare to break the rules of the market and Khairani played the desperate customer who wants to change purchased item. For this task, I am confident with myself, maybe because I’m not doing this alone. I really like the role because I can do that annoying face expression to Khairani, she hated me for the role, and that’s why she acted out her character successfully. Means that, I managed to make her angry and I succeed, I guess. Hehe. And we were glad that other students are laughing at our short drama because at first we afraid that they might not catch up what we were actually doing.

Tribal dance!! dance like crazy.. haha.. im not too nervous doing this dance because all of us are wearing a very nice mask made by ourselves. our dance is about guys doing their routine that is hunting and suddenly they bumped with three beautiful ladies and one of them are the attractive. they decided to win the girl's heart and the battle begins! however, we ended our dance at the wrong position, it should be at the center. never mind, we already did our job.

our last minor performance! three of us- myself as Ruth, Khairani as the evil Elvira and Sophia as my charming husband, Charles. i'm acting as a sulking wife who her husband always talking to a ghost, i mean his late wife. i think i'm doing okay for this performance. cant wait (really??) for the big day

Gosh, I so like the ghost makeup I did during Blithe Spirit. Of course I never put on make-up like that for casual use. But then, I look so dead…

Anyway, in the performance we did take 2. We pull it off okay, I think. It’s just that we need to be aware of the space we use, and how we move on the space we take as stage-not to be too at the rear and too on the left/right side. I need to watch over my voice intonations and facial expressions so as to be ‘real’ on stage. Yeah, I definitely need to do that. And the interpretation of the script, it could be made more funny….
All in all, I like Blithe Spirit… !!!

Before performing, my course mates and I were given an explanation on how to carry out the given assignment correctly by Madam Juridah herself.Firstly, I have to plan every single part of my monologue. Props are also one of the item in which I need to be concern about, and I have decided to use a simple approach to performing; an umbrella and a bench only. I was told that the duration of the solo performance is between 5 to 7 minutes and I was content to keep it in that range of time. In keeping to that that limit, I had practiced the monologue from time to time. I was in the first group to do the assignment and it has definitely raises my conscious a lot. . During the execution, I had mistakenly forgotten some lines and had modified some too but overall, the message is heard and felt by the audience. Reflecting on my performance, I think I have done my best. I am glad that madam Juridah has given me positive feedbacks and motivating comments which I consider to be very important to implement in my next minor performance. In short, the monologue session is a kick start for me in dealing with stage fright especially if I am performing alone.

Dialogue
I have chosen to work with Khairil in this assignment. It is rather very challenging for me, as this is my first time to co-operate with Khairil. For me, he is an efficient partner to work together with. He has brilliant ideas in order to generate the script and I have no problem what so ever while doing the assignment. We have trained for several times in order to make ourselves comfortable with the lines. As for the execution day, we do not face any major problem while performing. Mdm. Juridah has pointed out some of our weaknesses which are, voice projection and facial expression. Her opinions and comments has made me more aware of my acting in front of the audience. Overall, I enjoyed watching every pair work’s dialogue. Some of which has caught my attention the most is Maisarah and Roslinda’s dialogue and Jasmine and Aini’s dialogue. Both are very entertaining and heart moving. I can see that Maisarah and Roslinda have put a lot of effort in their dialogue. Well done!

Another group work! I am so excited throughout this activity from the beginning to the end although it requires a lot of energy, time and hard work. We started with mask making and it was a whole lot of fun. It reminds me of the good old days playing with papers, glue and water colour. It demands a lot of creativity and co-operation. Indeed, it has strengthened the bond between our group members. I can still remember the moment when Ainil, Nurul and I were searching for the raw materials (all sorts of leaves in different colours) to complete our costumes. It was really funny, really. We have even asked for Maisarah to help us with handling the ‘parang’. Fortunately, she was nearby to help us with it. Jasmine and Aini were busy with decorating the tins and assembling the instruments. Apart from that, I am also impressed by our costume designs. It was rather pretty, if I might say. The masks are also very bright and nice. What is lacking in our performance is our voice projection. We had miscalculated the mouth’s size on our masks. It resulted in bad voice projection. However, our storyline is still very catchy and one of a kind. In short, I enjoyed most of the group performances. They are very creative in creating their storyline for example, Nadia’s group; carrying Zuwariah on the bamboo stick, and Maisarah’s group; the fighting scene which I believe to be very intense.

This is the last minor performance that we have to complete in order to finish the course. Working in trios is another adventure for me. Luckily I have worked with my teammates who are very close and dear to me. This is an advantage for me since I can express myself freely without hesitation. Aini and Jasmine are very supportive and of course very determine to make this minor performance a remarkable one. We have determined the cast choice between ourselves and I believe that every one of us has carry out the task with upmost enthusiasm. One of the factors that contribute to an excellent show is the costumes. So, we had made it as one of our priority. Selecting the specific mood for the scene, we had chosen the most appropriate outfit to deliver our lines. Mdm. Juridah has given positive feedback after the performance. She has given remarks on our lines and outfit. However, we are asked to use more imagination and creativity to enable more impact in our acting such as the use of background music and modification on the lines. We have fun throughout the process of completing this task and I do hope others would feel the same way too.

6th - Tribal Dance

On 27th August 2008, we were to perform our tribal dance as our minor performance in theater. All groups were given a week time to get prepared with owns creativity and imaginations. We haven’t had any idea on this tribal performance on few days earlier. Some of us were actually trying to get some basic idea through the internet, while others figured out by asking suggestions from other sources. At first, we came out with sexist idea which suggests a few young ladies were attracted to a guy, argued with each other and tried their best to get his attention. Consequently, we started with few steps and dramatic movements. Two days before the performance, we begin to search for some leaves and sticks, and began to work with our props. Four of us found a long branch, and that is when we got the idea of putting the victim tied on it. The idea got more interesting and happening when we shared with other members. The new idea is about a cannibal dance; where it starts with two of us bring the tied victim whom betrayed from the tribe. The whole tribe got so excited and danced in celebrating it. The ladies got prepared with the ingredients in cooking, while the two leaders were discussing on the menu. It ended up with the escapism of that victim and everything got into trouble. We sit together and started making our skirts. In making the outfit, we had few problems in getting the leaves fixed together. Sometimes, we had been thinking if ever the outfit will fall down when the time come. We got the size of each member and created the outfits. In the progress, some new ideas came out and we integrated them with our basis story. Two days time of practice, we had a really great time during practicing. It was a lot of fun, where we enjoyed and laughed together. It was new for us to keep jumping around and clapping and communicating in the strange language of own. We were also required to create the sounds using the nature as example shells or sticks. The day has come. We are the third last group to perform. We have done our best and satisfied on what we have performed. Maybe there were some imperfection, but what is the most important is that we enjoyed the task and satisfied in overall.

7th - Blithe Spirit

Blithe spirit is our last minor performance in completing this course. I have done it with Asiah and Fahimah. We have to act out the dialogue given. I played the role of Charles. We have practiced a few times before the day comes. For me, it was stil difficult to keep focused on the tarck and flow of the story. I will always distracted with the audiences in front. but i believe that after few more practice it would be better. And after all the minor perfrmance, we have our confidence in acting and will try our best for our major performance.thank you pn.juridah. the tasks have helped us a lot.

Minor Performance 2: Rhythm & Movement
Dancing is something that I am not expected will be part of this course. But that does not mean I took this task for granted. Eventually, I felt glad with what I have done and I would like to thank all my group members (Betty And Lulu) for making this possible. At first dancing seem to be hard for me as I am not that ‘slim’… But soon enough I learnt that I am starting to enjoy myself and just let myself flow with the groove. One of the factors may be the choice of songs in our performance (“Hey Ya” by Outcast, “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Jessica Simpsons and “Numa Numa”) by Ozone. Another factor would be the synchronization between the members. We work very well as a group and each and everyone ideas are take into concern. I would consider this task as successfully done. I believe this task has boosted my confident level.

Minor Performance 3: Sculptor and sculpture
The 3rd task was interesting. This week we in a group of six BETTY & LULU production came out with a theme of summer holiday. Our sculptor is none other than Sophia Lina. The rest of us are the sculptures of the day. The task is not costly because what are important in this task are the facial expressions of the sculptures and how the sculptor delivers the task. Sculptor task is greater as she had to work with the beat during finishing sculpting. We choose to use disco beat to accompany the sculptor. In the end of the performance, audiences should be able to guess the outcome. And if they failed to guess the task consider failed. Luckily, our audiences are not disappointing. I enjoy the performance and other groups’ performances very much. Two thumbs up to all.

Minor Performance 4: Monologue
I must admit that this task raised my anxiety level. Compared to previous minor performances this is the most challenging so far. I have to come out with own idea and deliver all by myself. The “best” part was it was done in the public area where strangers passing by and took the chance to look at the performance. It worsens when I forget most of my lines. I was so intimidate by my surrounding and watching the better performances by my fellow classmates. I take Puan Ju comments into account that I should not cling to my script because I was memorising it and not in character. I should have just leaved the script behind and just gave all out during the performances. Anyway this is a good practice for our big performance because I should expect bigger audiences on that night.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 5: DIALOGUE

Yes, finally after a hard week of monologue performance, we had been assigned to do a dialogue which reveals the conflicts between individuals in pair. I did it with my best friend, Anis Nadya and after some time brainstorming the ideas, we decided to perform a conflict of two housemates who are not satisfied with each other.. Haha.. Of course it just an acting. On the day of the performance we let ourselves out but during the performance it’s quite hard because I cannot concentrate because we never had a fight before. It’s kinda hard to get into the character. However, we manage to complete the task and there’s some improvement we need to make such as the voice projection, facial expression and else. For me, this is a very interesting task to improve myself even more.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 6: TRIBAL DANCE

Yeah.. The new and undiscovered tribe has revealed themselves! This week we have to do the tribal dance which is a group performance. This is a very challenging task because we have to prepare a mask and wear it while performing the tribal dance! Yes, it did take a long week of preparation to get the mask and the props ready for the dance. Our story is about a group of people which named ‘Hohaka Tribe’ and only speak the Hohaka language among them. They live in the jungle and there’s a group of men accidentally meet a group of woman while hunting. All of them fall in love with the same girl and they fight to win over her heart. And like all fairy tales, the best man wins! The couple got married and lived happily ever after. On the performance day, we perform the tribal dance with our own style and overall, we did enjoy ourselves during the performance.

MINOR PERFORMANCE 7: BLITHE SPIRIT

At last…the final and the last minor performance that we have to complete is the concentration exercise based from a scene from Blithe Spirit. For me, this task is really interesting as we have to work in a group of 3 and I play the role of Ruth, the wife of Charles who had being haunted by his late wife spirit, Elvira. I enjoy myself playing the role of Ruth and all of us really put our efforts in completing this task. During this task, we have to memorize the script given and perform it in front of others. The script is enjoyable and this is a good practice in helping us to be ready for our major theater next month! GOOD LUCK to everyone!

Dialouge
Dialogue is a conversation between two or more person. In this task my partner is Nur Shazni and we choose a story by Jane Martin ‘Beauty’. Dialogue will help us in our voice projection. In this pair work cooperation between the two people is really important, if one of us forgot the script the partner need to cover up or move on. This activity is very enjoyable and we seen many story performed by our classmate.

Tribal Dance
Tribal Dance what can I say, it is first and foremost a dance, where we need to tell as story as we dance no dialogue required. In this group activity a lot of hard work, energy, time and effort needed to complete it. Different from rhythm and movement is more towards to a dance with less discipline; it is uncivilized dance that we try to convey. We have to crack our mind to come out with the storyline, and finally we decided to make a story based on hunger village longing for a warrior or warriors.

A scene from Blythe Spirit
This is our last minor performance and I think it is quite similar to our dialogue minor performance except that the script was taken from the story Blythe Spirit. I choose to play Charles the husband. In this task we do it in 3 my partner was Marlisa and Ain. We need to memorize the script first and then tries to play the character as best as we could. To me in this task we need to stand up from the rest because everybody was doing the same thing.

times flew very fast and finally we have done our last minor performance.
for this task, we were assigned to act out on the script given. it just a few lines script but i can see some of my classmates couldn't remember their lines. fortunately, we don't have that kind of problem but as pn ju said that we should explore more about the script. for example, as Elvira, the ghost on that day, i was on the right track at the beginning but then i seem lost. there's a part that i should stand a few yard but i don't do that.
i think i've learned something from this last task. i should explore the script and do more research about my character.thanks pn ju for all the comments and that will be very helpful for me for the final performance..

Tribal dance is a more challenging activity compared to the previous performance because we had to make use of nature things to do props, costume, jewelry and music instruments. First of all, we had to make mask on ourselves. This is a new experience for me. It really kills my patients because I had to put the newspaper layer by layer carefully. Then, we have to choreograph the dance. It takes quite a lot of time to prepare and thanks of my group members who had ‘risk their life’ to collect the mambo sticks, leaves and coconut shells. Other than that, I was very enjoyed in both my own performance and watching the others groups performance. I was amazed of it!

I have no excuse for getting poor comment after finished performing Blithe Spirit. I was very regret that I do not put more effort in tracing and analyze the characters. Pn Ju commented that we didn’t analyze the relationship between Charles, Elvira and Ruth. So, we can’t really go into the character. Besides that, I get stage fright because I was not well prepared. I hope that I would have enough time to practice and prepared myself in my major performance. So, I would not feel panic when I am on stage. Anyway, Blithe Spirit performance was over and I had gain experience from it.

My name is Ruth. I married to a man called Charles. We lived happily ever after in the beginning, but when Elvira comes into Charles life.....
The story begins.....
There is a lovely and pretty wife always waiting foe her husband to come back from work. But, when come into the room and say those words like “drink you under the table, shut up, you behaving like a guttersnipe.” I think I will kill him. ( JK…)
My group makes a good try on this performance. Since we didn't have a good practice, we didn’t perform it well... we didn’t have a analysis before we perform. That the reason we ruin our performance.
But, guys, we did make it. We make our life on stage. Bravo...
Thanks for Puan Ju,'s comment. It really helps us a lot. We will apply in our major performance. I think this will make our life more interesting.....
hehehe....

Tribal dance

For this minor performance, I found it really challenging. This time, everything is very detailed from the props to the costume. The masks that we had to make are quite hard. Apart from that, we had to create our own language. We had to be patient to do it. Our props should be handmade and made from nature so that took us quite some time to plan the music instruments and what kind of materials to use. We had to spend a lot of time to prepare and practice this performance. Not only our costume but also the choreography for our tribal dance is quite frustrating because we had no idea at all! We brainstormed ideas on how to create our costumes, instruments and also create the beat or music of our tribal dance. We went to shops to find coconut shells and hardware store to buy brooms and feather duster. Besides that, we went to Bukit Expo too, just to find leaves for our costume. Everything that we did, was very tedious. Our story line is about a man who gets abducted by a tribe of women. The tribe abducts this man (Khai) because they want to continue their generation of all women tribe. So one of the women seduces the man and after being pregnant and delivers the baby, the man gets stabbed in the back. On our day of performance, I liked everybody’s performance because they are really creative in terms of their costume and their language. It is funny too. Overall, I had a great time from the beginning of this process of tribal dance.

Bleathe’s Spirit

For this performance, my group (Jasmin and Hamizah) brainstormed for ideas on how to act out the script so that it is interesting for the audience. We decided that Mizah will be Ruth, and Jasmin will be Elvira while I’ll be Charles. We wanted to make the scene very British with thick accents to reflect the year in early 50’s. Our costume and props was basically reflecting that era where Charles wore a hat and smoked pipe while Ruth wore a red satin robe. Elvira on the other hand wore all white clothes and frilly ones. We practiced our performance for 3 days straight and having to memorize the script was not easy. It is quite challenging because everybody got the same script and it totally depends on us on how we want to interpret it. On the day of our performance, we were quite nervous but it went well I guess. I liked everybody else’s performance too because they had different ideas. Overall, I enjoyed myself in the making of this performance.

I think I did averagely well in today’s minor performance. Maybe because iti is the last minor performances. We practice it in limited time and I am glad we had finish it well. I learn that once we utter wrong words or miss out a few lines, we need to continue to the next line as to make the performance look natural in its flow. I think I had improved my self consiouness compare to previously. I think its because it is a group performance which this factor had lower my anxiety. We try change the script situation from the very decent spoken English to Chenglish so that it will distinguish us from the other groups. No forgetting the names too.

Finally, it is our last minor performance. How much had I long for this day. Another burden down, with another heavier onto the shoulder with the biggest of all, Theater!

Nevertheless, the fact that I am already relatively immune to minor performance, I do not really feel much anxiety flowing in it. Although there was a little before our turn to performance, but I guess was actually very normal. Moreover, I am playing the role of Ruth which makes me even lazier to memorize my script since there were just only a five lines. But I guess it was all wrong. Until the day you have really perform the whole scene, you would never know of the circumstances hiding behind. Yes, I had really forgotten some parts of my script. At least I have tried memorizing, but because it takes so long to wait for Ruth’s next line, the waiting process made me forgotten of what I need to say next.

Thankfully, my members were able to cover up and we acted normally as if there was nothing wrong. I think this is what makes a good actor; after all, acting is about being a good pretender. The idea of putting thick heavy make ups to be the ghostly Ruth was quite a new yet shocking experience to me. I can even scare myself when I look into the mirror. However, instead of being a frightening ghost, I turned out to be a silly and non-intimidating ghost. Nonetheless, it was all worth the try.

Week 2- rhythm and movement (16 July 2008)

For the first time I dance in front of the public. I was so embarrassed at first but since the song is familiar to me, I feel comfortable with it. Indeed I have enjoyed the activity to the fullest. Through this activity, I learn how to give full commitment to practice and at the same time do my assignments. We only have 5 days to practice. Through this activity also, I learned that not all are confident with themselves. Their self-conscious is quite high. I learned how to move with the sound and ever since that day, I could never stop myself from moving my body each time I listen to a song. I am not shy anymore to dance in front of my friends. This activity actually make us grew closer to each other, in our own group or as the whole of TESLian.

Week 3 – sculptor and sculpture (23 July 2008)

Today we become clay molded by Jolyne. It was hilarious as all of my friends watching and trying to distract our attention. We can’t smile until Jolyne mould us to. The scene that we chose is picnic at the beach. It is hard to keep still and my eyes keep glancing here there everywhere. Some said it is scary. The funny part is where Jolyne mould Lee Siam. She purposely pretends that she adding up sand to her breast, to increase its size. I could help myself to smile. Among all performances, I like Linda’s group most. They did the killing scene. It is very scary, the sound, the facial expression. Liyana really look like a serial killer with her eyes lined black. Other groups are very impressive too. I really am proud with all my friends. I discover the new side of them that I never knew before. Their hidden talents, their hidden cute side, all are revealed during the performances.

Week 4 – monologue (29 July 2008)

For the first time in my life, I talked in front of the public, alone. I have this stage fright that makes me tremble and stammer even if I stand in front of the class. I have butterflies in my stomach for the whole day and its getting worse as my turn getting nearer. I am impressed by my friends’ performances as they all are creative and brave. To me, being able to stand in front of the audience and being able to speak in public is great already because not many people can do that. There are also people that mocked us for doing the monologue in the middle of the pathway. I was so nervous because my monologue is just a simple monologue, telling a bit of my life and also the truth about TESL. I never expect to see Pn. Ju shed tears as I ended up my monologue. She said what I have said is true. Maybe in a way, that issue never being spoken in public before. We always talk about it, but only among the TESLian. Perhaps, there is a story behind it that may reflect to her past we never knew before. Overall, I am so proud to be a TESLian because only we can experience this and enjoy things that others won’t do.

Week 5- Dialogue (6 august 2008)

Today we did another minor performance, which is dialogue. Well, this is not as scary as monologue as there are two people at the same time. I did my dialogue with SuYnn. The story of our dialogue is about two best friends meet up again after two years since their graduation day. Both of them are engaged, but to the same man. Angry with the fact they start to fight. But then, another girl is walking next to their man. To get revenge, they sell the cheap rings and started to hunt another good-looking man. As we act it out, I forgot a few of my lines. It is Su Ynn who kept reminding me my lines. We still performed at the foyer DKAP so quite a crowd that stopped to watch us. But we did not feel that self-conscious because we acted together with our friend. Overall, we need to increase our voice projection and our character need to be strengthen up as we sometimes lose track of what we are going to be. So far, I can feel my self-confident has increase a bit. There are only a few weeks left before our major performance. It always give me Goosebumps each time I think about it. But I really hope I can do well.

Week 6- Tribal Dance (27 August 2008)

Hurray! Finally we have finished our tribal dance. It was fun yet frustrating. I forgot all my dancing steps as soon as we started to dance. The masks of other group are very unique and beautiful. Their costume and dance are also something that they should be proud off. At first it is cloudy but after 3 groups presented, rains started to pour heavily. I even have the thought that it is our performance that caused rain because the sound that we make are exactly like real tribal group does when they are in rain-calling ritual. But the most disappointing thing is that I didn’t do my job well. Because of my careless, I have stained the TESL name in my college. To all my friends, please forgive me if I do hurt your feeling that evening. Truthfully, I really enjoyed all of your amazing performances. Thank you for all your hard work and thanks to Pn. Ju for giving us the opportunity to be primitives’ people. (^-^) at least for once in our life, we have a chance of becoming crazy and speak language that no one understands.

our last minor performance... indeed it is a scary one as we're given a script to memorize, pick our own role and act it out. at this moment, costume started to be the main focus, so is our voice. this is a slice of what will happen on the 18th and 19th october.. i was so scared and even blank the moment i performed. but as my partner recite her lines, my lines keep flowing like water... hehe thank god. i hope that the real theatre will be as smooth as this performance...

I feel so excited because after this there are no more minor performances but at the same time I feel so scared because it’s time for our major performance. Back to our last activity for the last minor performance, this time around we have to memorize a short play called ‘blithe spirit’. Not only we have to memorize but we need to act it out. There are three characters and I took the role of Ruth, the wife of Charles. Being ‘Ruth’ is a bit difficult for me because she talks too much in it or in other words, I have to memorize quite long lines of her. Long lines mean I act a lot of it. Not much practice I had with my group because we hope we can act it out just nice without a lot of practices. Well, it turned out just like what we’ve planned for except that my part was weak. I have to admit that I never be a good actress which I believe I am. However this exercise does help me to focus on the acting because I need to remember the lines while acting it out. I guess this is not an easy job to do. However, I think this kind of exercise is very good for students in a way helping them to stay focus on what they’ve learnt in the class. More focus means more concentration among the students. Concentration exercise enables the students to improve in their study by considering the important part of their studies. Therefore, I think this kind of activity is good for our students.

Our last minor performance is blithe spirit. For this performance we have to work in a group of three and I have done it with Ainil and Dalila. In this task, we were given a dialogue. I played the character of Charles. I found it very difficult for me to focus and get into the character. Overall, I think I can carry the character better if I do some analysis on the character storyline before I perform it.

Sculpture and sculptor
Eventually during practicing for sculpture and sculptor my group members decided that I would be the sculptor. Well I did my part and they did their part as well. After looking back at our recorded performance, I noticed that it is a very boring performance indeed. The actions are too slow and lame. In fact I noticed a very important fault in our performance that is there is not accordance and flow in our actions. This shows that we are lack in communication therefore it should not be repeated again in our future performance. Besides that I also think that we did badly for this performance as we did not really put much afford and time in practicing because we thought that we did quite well for rhythm and movement thus it shouldn’t be a problem since it is just a simple performance. However, it serves as a lesson to us that we can never take things easy. No matter how small and easy it is we should give our level best for it. As the saying goes “practice makes perfect”. Only through practice and hard work we may overcome difficulties and achieve skillfulness.

Monologue
Frankly, I’m rather worry and nervous when I was first assign to perform a monologue. I have no idea at all on what role or character to hold. After giving much afford and thought I’ve decided to play the role of an arrogant man who look down on beggars. It’s a hard time for me to build up and adopt the mood as it is so different from who I’m. Only at that time do I realize that how hard it is for us to be someone whom is the opposite of us. No wonder it takes years to complete a film production and all the more reason for us to stop from buying pirated DVDs because indirectly we are robbing them. During my performance I felt rather nervous during my performance as for I could not really memorize the script. Eventually it all works out quite well. After watching back the recordings I found out that I really need to work on my facial expression as well as my body posture. My action and pace should be reduced to develop the tense and effectiveness of my character. It is good to realize this as improvements can be done in preparation for the final performance

Dialogue
Coincidently a week before we are assigned to perform dialogue, a few of us visited Malacca and eventually I and Deepa became the “tour guide”. During our trip in Malacca there have been a few incidents where I and Deepa had an argument over a few things which later on give us an idea to act it out again for our dialogue. I can say that among all the other performance, this is the one and only that I felt comfortable with. I believe that it is because of the role that I’m holding is my own self. In fact, we did not really spend much time practicing, yet I manage to remember all my lines in the dialogue. Lastly, teamwork between performer it also important, we need to be spontaneous in accordance to the flow. For example during our performance Deepa accidentally drop her sun glasses which we did not plan that to happen. Since it had happen, both of us just add a few conversations to make it looks like we plan to drop the sun glasses so that it wouldn’t interrupt the whole performance.

Tribal dance
Again we are supposed to perform a dance but this time around it is not just any dance but a tribal dance. For the purpose of this performance we are required to make our own mask and costume to reflect a tribe and prepare our own instrument to produce sounds and rhythm for our dance. It is certain that our group still have not come out with any idea for our tribe’s identity as well as the story line, so we just proceed with the making of our mask first. It never crossed my mind that I would encounter with such an activity in the university. I used to watch how handmade mask are made in Art Attack, a TV program on Disney channel so it somehow helps me in completing my mask. After a few sessions of discussion, we finally decide to call our tribe as the Cola tribe. The story line begins with the people of Cola Island live in peace and harmony until the present of a tiger that took away the life of their livestock. The headman then decided to hunt down the tiger in order to restore peace in the live of his people. They equip themselves with weapon made out of bamboo and successfully killed the tiger and restore peace.
I and Min Hui went to Malacca to cut the bamboo which later serves as our weapon as well as musical instruments. Believe me it is a ‘wonderful’ experience for the both of us as it is not an easy job as we thought it would be. I even had my hand cut when handling the bamboos. Nonetheless I think it is worth the affords that we put in and that’s always first time in anything.

Blythe spirit
Thank god finally it is our last performance before our major play. For this time around, we just need to analyze and adopt the mood of the three characters and act it out as we have been provided with the script. Eventually my group happens to be the last group to present due to one of our group member is sick. Consequently we only practice and rehearse for almost ten time and I had a hard time in getting used to the names Elvira and Ruth. During the practice I keep missing my lines and got it mixed up. Honestly, I felt more comfortable in performing the previous dialogue that we had. The reason is that we prepared the script based on the character that we are comfortable with. So I guess it is not easy to be an actor after all. Imagine the amount of script that you will have to memorize and adopt into the mood. Nonetheless, after being assigned a few performances before this we tend to get use to the subject matter.

Minor Performance 7: Consentration Exercise

This 7th performance was our last minor performance before the theatre. In the concentration exercise, we were each given the same one page dialogue from a play entitled “Blithe Spirit”. We performed it in a group of three (me, Shazrina and Alia). I took the role of a wife, Ruth who was tired of her husband’s constant remembrance of his late wife, Elvira- she actually had come back from the dead, planning to ruin Charles’s second marriage. Shazrina took up the role of the husband, Charles and Alia was Elvira, the spirit of the late first wife. It was pretty difficult when we practiced the dialogue for the first time because each of us did not fully remember our dialogues. It was okay then after the next few hours. Watching some of my friends’ performances made my stomach grumbled. Some of them were really good. I personally liked Iskandar’s performance. He was really good in portraying Ruth. What I realized throughout the performance was that each group interpreted the dialogue differently based on their own creativity. There may be some slight similarities among all the groups but you can see the differences that they presented in their performances. The concentration exercise was really an exciting and a valuable experience to me because I will go through quite the same process as this exercise in the theatre practice.

Minor Performance 7: A scene from “Blithe Spirit”

In “Blithe Spirit”, I act as Charles. This is the first time I act as a male figure where as my group members: Eunice acts as Elvira and Iskandar acts as Ruth. I enjoy very much when we are practicing the drama. In my opinion, this is the easiest minor performance compared to the previous ones because it only requires us to memorize lines for our own character. Therefore, I am not so stress when preparing for this minor performance but take it in a more relaxed manner. I don’t know about the rest of my course mates. For me, most of the minor performances are indeed stressing though there are times of fun and joy.
However, in this seventh minor performance, I learnt that although it is just a short scene and only need to remember my own character’s dialogue, the interpretation of each character is very important in order to portray and perform well in our own character. This is the factor which alerts me the most because all the while, I did not think of interpretation of character. I thought I only need to memorize my lines and wait for my turn to speak.
Besides that, I learnt that cooperating and helping one another to remember their turn to speak is also important to perform a spontaneous and excellent performance. Moreover, the common factor yet sometimes hard to practice out is voice projection. I have been reminded many times that my voice projection has to be loud and clear. I hope and I will project my voice loud and clear enough for major performance in the future. I want a breakthrough.

Finally, we’ve come to our last minor performance. For this task, we have to act in three people. Blithe spirit is the title of the story that we have to act out. I play the character as Ruth, Zana as Elvira and Emeliea as Charles. In doing the task, I found that, the most difficult thing to do was to remember the script. Even though it is just a short script, but it takes time to remember and to practice. Sometimes, when I remember the script, I forgot it when it comes to practice. However, I think I manage to do well during the performance. Even though it was not as good as the real actor but I think it was okay for a beginner like me.

The sound story

The first minor performance that we did for your class is the sound story. The activity was very fun and interesting. I did not believe for the first time that a story can be told by using sounds. How interesting it was. When we were told to tell a story using sound, we found that it doesn’t make sense and it will be so difficult. All of our group members sit down and discuss what story we want to tell and what sound can we produced using our mouth. We then make a story about a person who fall asleep and then dreamed that he lost in the jungle and was chased by a tiger. The task was difficult because we have to make the story and the rest of the class will have to guess what our story is all about. Thank god that our friends can guess what our story was about. It was very fun producing sounds.. hehhe..

Rhythm and movements

Dance? Oh no.. I never think of dancing in front of other people especially my classmates. But, that is what the next minor performance is all about. In the second performance my friends and I had to dance with lots of movements.. heheh.. it was quite funny and I never think that I can dance. We use some songs and make movements that suite the song. I was very great moment practicing with all the group members and having lots of new experiences. On the day we had to perform, I felt very nervous but then my friends give support and things went fine after that. It was very great moment.

Quite a tough one because it required us to do threesome dialogue. For this task, we were given a dialogue script. it seems like easy because no need to create our own dialogue, but after i looked at it, it acualy quite difficult because of it words that is so complex for me seems that i only use simple english in my daily life. 'Blithe Spirit' this is the title of our script and i choose to do with auni and inzah. There were three characters in this script, i'm taking the role of 'Charles', Inzah as ' Ruth' and Auni as 'Elvira'. Overall, it was just ok and in attempting the dialogue, Puan Ju realizes that one of our problem is our voice projection and we did not really into the character.Neway, i enjoyed doing this task and it quite helped me because in my major performance I was chosen to take a role of a man, where i need to speak, act and walk like a man.

Minor Performance 6: Tribal dance.

Our own tribe? What a unique task! Making our own props, designing our own costumes and creating our own language. Hmmm… I think that this task is really cool. Can’t wait for the performance day. First of all, we must prepare the mask using the newspaper. It is really enjoyable. Then, we were asked to decorate the mask in our own unique way. The second step is to prepare the props, the musical instrument and the costumes. We had chosen to use the materials from the nature, the leaves and all those branches. It is really unique as we can use our creativity to make it useful. Then, we create the songs, dance and the language that will be used for the performance. It is really different from all others task that had been done before. Really enjoy it =)

Trilogue.

What a sad week.. I can’t proceed with my next task; the trilogue. At that time, I had a bad fever, and I can’t attend the class for the whole week. As what I had been told from my classmate, this is the story between the three characters, Ruth, Elvira and Charles. Elvira is the ex-girlfriend of Charles and she kept haunting both Charles and Ruth. I feel really upset, because if I attempt the task, it will be much easier for me to work in my major performance, because the character that had been assigned for me for the major performance is slightly same as Elvira’s character.

Major performance (The Replacement)

The moment is arrived. I have been waiting for this moment for all the semester. For my group, we had chosen to act out the play; The Replacement. I had been assigned to act out the character; fairy angel. This is the inner voice in Russell Hawkins. It acts as a guardian for him by constantly and dutifully advising him not to follow the wrong path. It plays a significant role in deterring him not to revenge his father. This creates a conflict in him and he is torn between morale and his own rights. I have chosen to wear all white costumes. And during the performance, I feel very happy, as for me, my group had done a good job. Congratulations girls =)

For this first week, we learned the use of sound to develop sequence in story. Hence, we asked to come up with one. At first, we found it rather hard and difficult to complete this task since no words should be uttered. We have generated few ideas of plot to present. We thought of a horror story and an accident, but then we end up with a war sketch.
The story begins with lovely and peaceful sounds of a village. There were sound of animals such as rooster, duck, goat, cat and bird. Besides that, to emphasis the harmonious surroundings, we added effects of children playing and laughing, and also we did the humming of a soft and happy song to portray the particular purpose. As the plot progress, we suddenly change the tranquil atmosphere to a battle situation. Sounds of bullets, guns, bombs and war jet were everywhere. At the same time, we made sounds of people crying and suffering because of the war. To end it, we did the song of sadness humming.
Since it is the first task assigned for us, I was quite nervous waiting for the comments and responds. I was glad that my classmates could interpret what we intend to convey. It does mean that we did it well as they could understand the story line even though without any single utterances plus without facing us.
In short, I think this kind of activity can enhance our comprehension and skills towards theatre itself. I believe, theatre is not just about the act, but how to make people understand what we act out.

For this second task, we need to move. I mean really move. So, we decided to combine the traditional and modern styles in the dance. We use three songs in order to fulfill this purpose. First is song by Tiara Jacquelina entitled Asmaradana. The second great song is taken from amazing Bollywood movie, Taal. And the last song is also from Hindustani film, China Gate, called ‘Chamma Chamma’.
Since we have a very short time to complete and memorize all the steps, we have started early for practice. We feel that we have no life at all. What we think is only how to make Madam Juridah says ‘Wow!. Day and night was seems same to us. In the mean time, I can see the attitude and discipline of each of my group members. Alhamdulillah, I am really proud and feel very fortunate to have very great team members, or I should call them very great friends. I dedicate my gratitude especially to Aza and Rini who been so cooperated and dedicated. They were willing to come to our college every single night before the performance to practice. I heard there are groups who complaint about their members, and I am very thankful that it is not happen in my group. Thank you girls!
After days of training, eventually the presentation moment came. We were the second group to perform. Even though we were only performing in front of our lecturer and classmates, I did felt nervous. The dance went well and we were satisfied with our show. However, Madam Ju was commenting us on our feelings and emotions. It is true that we did not really feel the song and blend it together with our steps. We had tried so much on it, but as an amateur, we could not achieve it.
Besides that, we have learned from Min Hui’s group who present a dance with plot. They told a story which I did not really catch it. But it was really good. They have an element which made them different from the others.
After all, as what Madam Ju has said, it was extremely well performance from all Teslian5. We have put so much effort, team work and discipline to complete this assignment. I think we deserve the compliment.

It was awesome! I was enjoying the three hours period with different great performances. I really attracted and fascinated with Iskandar’s group performance. The theme was really simple and yet they did it amazingly. They brought the theme of joy represented by their own physical body gestures which they move to become the letter H.A.P.P.Y. Wow! It never crosses my mind. Besides that, I also like the scene by Khairil’s group since they have succeeded in putting the role play since Khai is the only guy in the group. The props that they brought were really useful and suit with the theme.
In my opinion, by doing this kind of action, will somehow helps us in building the character and learn to be into it. I think the performance would be more effective and look realistic when each members of the group do it seriously with their emotions and facial expressions. It is also the opportunity for us to practice parts of the skills in theatre which will be held at the end of the semester. Plus, we can implement the same activity when teaching literature in class.
In short, I really feel like taking this course for another 3 semesters. =)

I'm very disappointed with my monologue performance. Serve me right!` Frankly, I didn’t really prepared for this task. Sorry Madam Ju. At first, I didn’t have any idea to come out with. After some thought, I decide to proceed with a monologue of a young girl school who feel bored in her Physics class. Basically it is my own experience and I want to share it since I’m sure most of us had gone through the same situation. I have expected that I won’t do best. And sadly, it was. I just satisfied with the beginning and ending of my performance. The rest were terrible. Madam Ju also said that I can do better than that. She believes that I can play with my emotions and play other challenging roles. I hope I can do well in Dialogue.

Yes! I did it!! Practice makes perfect! Thank you for my best buddy Linda for your help, support, and idea. In my opinion, dialogue is easier than monologue. In dialogue, we have partner to support each other if we forget our lines. While in monologue, we have to be independent for it. Plus, we don’t feel awkward and we can express the emotions and feelings more since there is someone we interact with.
I also think that this task has helped us a lot in preparing us for the major performance soon. From creating the script to preparing the costumes and props until acting it out. Thank you Madam Ju

Hyendea..Hyendea..Hyendea…Sounds weird, but that is the language we chose for the second last minor performance, Tribal Dance. So far, this is the difficult task for me. We have to think of many things. The music, costumes, mask, language, dance steps, almost everything! Well, even though those are the things we need to face in preparation of the major performance, I was breathless. It was hectic for the whole week. We have to forget to enjoy during weekend, and just have to get the job done in time. It is very funny to be warned by “Pengurus Kolej”, En Idzhar for cutting and ruining plants in our college due to the need of our costume. It is common to have leaves and anything associated with plant in any tribe. Ya, may be it’s our fault too. We should save the nature and think of the smart way to take it.
Well, it was ‘”happening” during the performance and I enjoyed myself so much. It seems easy to say our lines without need to memorize any. But believe me, it is more difficult to utter language that we create. We have to adjust the intonation and put some feelings in it. However, we just went on and on…Haha..We were laughing behind the mask all the time. It was hilarious! All of the performances were great! Nevertheless, I learned so many things when doing this task. Time management, cooperation, patient, and learn how to be creative and unique than others

I shall call it ‘trilogue’. Well, Madam Ju provided us with the script and we have to modify it to become interesting scene. The script must be carried out by three people. However, Aza and me have to do it without Rini. She was unwell and was in her hometown. Nevertheless, it never made us down. We decide to finish it as in the schedule. Kind Rini has agreed to let us do it without her. She said that she wasn’t mind if Madam Ju deduct her mark, as long as she is not make us in trouble.
When we were practicing, I found it hard to lost one character in the scene. Fortunately, Kak Yana was willing to help. She replaced Rini’s role as the ghost. It was good for kak Yana too, because she gets the second chance to be evaluated. It is symbiosis though. I love to watch the short scene since they were so many versions of it. This is where I can see their creativity in order to make their performance the best and interesting. Plus, this is just like we are performing a part of the major theatre.
I learned my weakness in remembering my lines. Poor Aza. She had to adjust hers in order to keep the scene in sequence. However, it good for both of us since at the real stage anything can happen. We should learn how to overcome any problem we face on stage.

I was very frustrated with myself but i hope I will perform better in the major performance.

After all the effort we put on the minor performances, now it is the time for us to focus on our major performance. Our script was written by Priya and all of us really thank her. The title of our play is The Replacement. In this play I was assigned to become Cecily Sinatra. A women who fall in love toward a fake man who pretending to be someone else. This character is quite challenging for me because Cecily can be described as a person who is giddy. To act out this character had made me feel a bit ashamed towards the audience. However, for the sake of my group I did all my best. All the support from my group members is really appreciated.
Throughout this play, we really work hard on it. We practice many times and help each other. Usually, we will start our session with read out our lines. This is for purpose of getting correct intonation and to synchronise our lines. As for me, I don’t really have trouble with the lines because most of it a very short sentence. Sometimes, my group members gave advice and show me to get correct intonation. After that, then only we started to act out the action. Each one of us is allowed to give comment after finished practice every scene. This session really help us to improve on our acting. Support from group members become importance aspect in this play.
After practice a lot of time, we started to figure out on our costume and props. As for my group I think we don’t need many props but we nee to emphasize on our costume since three of my group members will be hold to men character. So, costume will play important aspect to them in order to make them look like a men and be able to work on the character. For me, my costume does not trouble me much because I was lucky to get woman character. So, for this play I just used my own stuff. Besides costume, make up is very important especially for Priya ( Rusell), Maisarah( Rupert), Mohana (Rudolf) and Liyana (Peter) because they need to create their own moustache and beard. They really looked like a man and they act very well during the performances. For the rest, I think they did a great job. Linda really in character at that night and Rini had done her good job as a fairy angel. Maisarah’s costume really help her to look like a man. As for me, I had tried my best and give full efforts towards this play. From what I can see, our performance was successfully done. Even though we had face many problem in the beginning, we managed to settle everything.
Thanks a lot to my buddy group, Enjit-enjit semut production for helping us a lot throughout this semester. We really appreciate all your effort and support. This course really shows us the true colour of our friends and it also had tightened our relationships with the rest of group members. A great memories will remains in our heart and mind…

I am very sure that I had posted a comment on sculpto and sculpture. But it went missing and now here I am writing it all over again...

Well, I still remembered that my third task was sculpto and sculpture.I still remembered that we were a bit behind schedule so it was kind of a last minute preparation. After out Educational Technology class, we gather in Bilik TV back in our college to start practicing. A night before we had a brainstorm about what we should do. Each of us gave a storyline and each story was interesting. So we decided to take ideas from each story an make it another story.

We decided who is going to be the sculpto and the sculptures. All of us agreed that Priya is the most suitable person to be the sculpto as she has that look. So i became the murderer (we captured a murder scene) and Priya ask me to be a block of wood, so that it would be easier for her to bring me into the scene.

Gosh, this task is really challengin as it need you to really not move, be a sculpture! I was one of the earliest sculpture that were brought onto the scene and it was hard not to move! My hand especially was tired. Luckily I got the support from the audience and it seemed that they like my facial expression. I was scary, they said. When I look back the the recorded clip, yeah, I did look scary.

Anyway, thanks again to my group members. We were all complaining during our practice because it took Priya quite a while to get all of us onto the scene but I guess it was paid off with the comments that we get from the audience.

Minor performance 3: Monologue

On the day that I am going to do my monologue, I was quite nervous because this time around I should do by my own and will be evaluate by Pn. Juridah. By hook or by crook, I should do my best to tackle my nervous and on my performance. So, I choose a title on ‘Hurting, Devastating, Wounded…” which I acted as a woman who was abused by her husband. I choose to do the monologue about abusive woman because this time around there is lots of women who had been abused by their husbands. I would like to highlight the issue so that our community will not forget that there are still women need our help.
To do the monologue, one should act as a person who was being abuse, the attire and the feelings to make the monologue and the situation authentic. What have I done is, I make myself in a mess with bruises all over my face( which of cause I make up myself to do the bruises) and at the same time I express myself as the person who was being abused in my monologue. It was quite interesting and I enjoy my monologue. Pn. Juridah asks me to do better next time and she comment about my t-shirt that I wore on that day. I should wear torn t-shirt to make it more real. In a nutshell, I take the comments in a positive ways and try to improve myself next time around. The performance that I did, I was satisfied but there is lots of progress to be done.

Minor performance 4:Dialogue

Cruelty, money and arrogance are equal to step-mothers where everyone believes even in those days. Not every step-mother behaves like that but some of them do. In this material world where everything is not free, of course money is everything to make the living. To make life easier some women take the short cut ways in order to satisfy themselves. They will marry the guy who was married or rich for example to pay for their own expenses. And at the same time they are arrogance towards their husband’s family. Sometimes, the guy that those types of women married got their own children and automatically that woman will be step-mother. Most of the cases the children will be abused by their step-mother because the step-mother did not have the intention to take care of the children.
From what we have heard and see, we choose the dialogue between step-mother and step-daughter. Ewani acted as step-daughter and I, myself acted as step-mother. It was quite awkward at first to be a step-mother because I don’t have any experience. But I mingled my guts to act as step-mother. It was quite tough but nevertheless, at least I have tried once to become once. The performance is average because both of us lack of practice and feelings to express ourselves during the day. I hope that my group members and I will give our best during our major performance. =)

Minor performance 5: SCULPTURE AND SCULPTOR...
Doing the sculpture and being a sculptor not as easy as you see. Well, I have been experience once and I knew how it felt. To make the expression towards others is not an easy task. You must have communication to generate good sculpture and sculptor performance. As a sculptor you must have wider imagination to create the appropriate facial expression and body gestures to convey the mood. Nevertheless, the actors also play the important roles as a sculpture to do the facial expression and body posture because the audience will watch them and evaluate them later. Both sculpture and sculptor were related to each other and play important role.
For this task we are required to choose a sculptor and the rest of the group members are suppose to be the object of sculpture. After the discussion, the members has spoke that I am the sculptor and they’ll be the sculpture. I am glad to be the sculptor because at least I got the opportunity to be the sculptor once in a lifetime! It is normal feeling when I am quite not sure whether I can handle my character as good as possible during the performance but eventually I was giving my best shot during actual performance. So do my group members, they have done their best in this task. Perhaps this task may be a good practice before the major play at the end of the semester.

Minor performance 6:Tribal dance
Hohaka… That was a name for our group in tribal dance. It is unique to create our own language, clothing, mask, instruments and movements to convey our tribe identity. Our language is based on the group name Hohaka. And each member will pronounce hohaka and haka repeatedly. It doesn’t mean anything but the intention is just we have to create new words to portray our tribe. It was interesting. We are having fun to create a tribe that never exists. Clothing, it was a fun part that I like the most. I mean, yeah, creating clothes from leaves and straw to make flowers and then to create bangles was interesting too. Felt that I was really in a tribe. Next thing that I enjoy is doing a mask. Everyone in my group is cooperative in lending hand to help each other in order to do the mask. It was wonderful to see each of our group members helping each other. They were supportive.
Instruments that we used to make sound are basically drink tins, bottles and cooking pot. The way that we produced the sound is not really good because the audience cannot hear it clearly. Our voice projection was also not really good. But at least we have tried…=) it was disappointing but we can accept it. The movement is about men try to win a woman’s heart and the best is chosen as her life’s partner. As Pn. Juridah comment on our movement, she said that the movement is not really clear and audience try to predict what was going on. So here we as the one who acted in the performance felt a little bit gloomy and will give our best shot on the other performance. Chayo!!!

Minor perfoprmance 7: Blithe Spirit
Oh my God…this is the last minor performance in this course and afterward, all of my classmate will do our major performance. Sound scary but we have to do it. Hmm… this time around for the “Blithe Spirit” I have to work on trios. Actually, our group members consists six people in a group and we have to split into two groups for this last performance. Even though, we have to split our group members but we still supporting each other in order to give our best performance. What a spirit!!! I am lucky to have my group members Ewani, Lynn, Reha, Nadia, and Ika. Although we are in different characters in real life but we still can stick together as a group. I am proud of them and glad to be part of this group. Our bond is tightening each day we are together.
For this performance I have to be Charles the husband of Elvira and also Ruth. Elvira already did not exists in this world anymore in other word she was dead. And Charles suddenly can see her spirit walking around his house and he can talk to Elvira too. Ruth his wife after Elvira was dead did not trust her husband because she cannot see Elvira. Charles always talking to himself and that makes Ruth realize there are something wrong with her husband. Charles had explained to her that Elvira is around but still she did not trust him. Acting to be a guy was fun! Lynn had drawn for me beard and mustache…hihi…looking like a guy makes me cool...=) Lynn acted as the evil Elvira and Reha for sure acted as my lovely wife Ruth. We practice our lines together with our other group members. And it was pleasurable!!!

Sound performance

On 8th of July (during the night), we as a group has discussed what kind of story that we want to make through sounds. Then, we brainstorm the ideas which everybody of us has to contribute their ideas into the group in order to generate a sound story. Different people will have different ideas. Thus, our group has many suggestions to do an accident, snatch, and horror and war story for our performance. However, after considering the advantages and disadvantages of all the stories, we have agreed that we want to make a war sound story. This is because through that story, we can produce many sounds which are varying from each other. Besides that, on that night, we have thought about how to make a sound and its sequence so that it will be a war story. We also have divided everybody’s role in producing the sounds equally as nobody can escape from doing the task. Then, on the next morning, on 9th of July, we have decided to make a practice at a field since there is nobody there so we can make the sounds as loud as we can. After a few times making the practice, we record the sounds that we produce and re-listen to it. In fact, what make us surprise by listening to the recorded sounds is we are like hear a true sounds story of war as it seems to be realistic. After that, we are very happy and feel more confidence for doing the sounds performance on that day. Around 3 in the evening, when we come to theatre class, we have recalled the sequence of sounds so that we will not forget to produce the sounds during the real performance. Then, before our group’s turn to do the sounds story, all of us feel nervous since it is our first minor performance for the theatre. Nevertheless, during the performance we have done our best. We produce the sounds as loud as we can so that the lecturer and our friends can hear the sounds and make a guess, what kind of story that we make and also its sequence. What make us happy is, after our performance our lecturer has given us a credit by knowing how to manipulate the sounds in order to influence people’s emotion. Overall, we satisfy with our performance on that day as our goal for doing our best is achieved. This success is like a catalyst for our group to perform better for our next minor performance.

Rhythm and Movement

Rhythm and movement is an activity which is very enjoyable even it requires a lot of energy and causes us to feel extremely tired. This is because before this we are never involved in dancing. Fortunately, in my group there is one person who is a professional dancer, Mohana. Thus, Mohana has created steps for us which is quite easy to be followed even we are not professional dancer. Our dancing moves from slow to medium and then to fast steps. At first of training, we are extremely tired and our legs start to pain. Then, for the next day, we do the stretching in order to avoid us from being pain in certain parts of our body especially at legs. Besides that, each of us has a difficulty to catch up certain steps as different person will has different capability in dancing. As a result, most of us almost give up since we cannot follow the steps. However, Mohana is really good in psychology the other people. She always gives motivation to us by giving positives words besides she is really patient with our behavior and attitudes towards dancing. Everyday we will do a practice from day to night when we do not have any class. All of us believe that practice makes perfect and no pain no gain. We have to sacrifice our time and energy in order to be the best among the best. We also have our own costumes which is unique and different from the other group. For this minor performance, I can see that there is a great competition among the groups in order to give the best performance during the day of real performance. From day to day we have been practiced; as a result, we also can dance like a professional dancer. Then, during the real performance day, all of us feel very nervous since this is the first time we are dancing in front of the other people. What we scare is if we are forgetting the steps, so what we have to do. Nevertheless, Mohana has given us an advice which asks us to dance for enjoyment without any stress. She said that if we enjoy and happy with what we are doing, therefore we will feel more confidence with what we do. Moreover, if we forget the steps, she said that do not panic, on the other hand we just have to continue with the steps. However, during the performance I have forgotten certain steps as I have been influenced by the crowds. Thus, from this incident, I have to take lesson that we are supposed to pay attention and concentrate with what we do by neglecting the crowds. By the way, I like my group performance. Asmaradana and Taal are the two songs that I still remember until now since we use those songs for our dancing.

Sculptor and Sculpture.

For sculptor and sculpture performance, my group has decided to make a murder story, which is agreed by the other members. Even we do not have much of time to practice it; we still try our best to work hard on it. We have divided the role for sculptor and sculpture performance based on everybody’s capability. For this time, I have to act as a person who is groaned in pain. That means I have to make a facial expression and also gestures which symbolize somebody who is groaned in pain. Honestly, it is not an easy job since you have to be still with your position and action for about five minutes as people can guess what your facial expression and gestures symbolize. Furthermore, my group has utilized a variety of material in doing this sculpture like clay, stone and wood. For our group, we have focused more on facial expression as it is very important in helping people guessing what kind of facial expression you do during that time especially when people screaming and scare. What I have learnt from this task is I have to be sensitive with every stimulus which is given to me and then I have to react or response to it as soon as possible. Overall, I am satisfied with my group performance as we are always done our best in every performance. We believe that work smart and be strong is the ladder of success no matter what happen. Moreover, all my group members are really enjoyed during the performance as we are always think positive in everything that we do. That is why we are in the same group, which is called Fusion Incorporated. Yeah!!!

Monologue.

For my monologue, I just got the idea about it a few days before I have to perform it in front of my classmates. This is because I am quite confused of what kind of story that I want to work on, whether it is a serious, sad, and happy or horror story. Honestly, I take a long time to think about my monologue since for this time I have to perform it alone, by myself. In addition, what makes me scare is most of my friends already got the idea and work on it, but I am still thinking what story that I want to make for my monologue. Fortunately, two days before my real performance all of sudden I got an idea for my monologue performance. Then, I start to write scripts and after that I ask my friends to check for it if there is a grammatical error in my language. I decide to make a story which is about disobedient daughter who is rude towards her parents especially towards her mother. Materialism made her to be selfish and disobey towards her parents. After that, I ask my friends’ opinion about my story whether is good or not, then most of my friends’ feedback is positive since this story is always happened in our society and there are also moral values and lessons contain in the story. For instance, you have to appreciate what you have especially your parents and you also have to obey to your parents as they have sacrificed a lot for you. It is true as I do not want to make any story without any purpose or moral values behind it. I want my friends to listen to my monologue and then learn something which is beneficial for everyone especially those values that I include in my story can guide someone to become a better person in his/her life. As usual before I start my performance, I become so nervous even though I have practiced for many times in my room. Besides that, before this I have been practiced in front of my roommate and then I ask her opinion about my performance in terms of voice projection, emotion, facial expression and gestures. Then, my roommate said that I have to improve my voice projection so that the audience can listen carefully what I have said. Then, before I start my performance, I have imagined myself as disobedient daughter so that I can get the appropriate feelings during I am doing my monologue. Luckily during the performance I do not forget my scripts. Moreover, my lecturer has said that my emotion, facial expression and gestures are good. Nevertheless, I have to improve more for my voice projection since there are certain words which are not pronounced clearly by me. Anyway, I satisfy with my monologue performance and I have learnt many things from this task. This is because I feel more confidence after I am doing my monologue as I have to perform it in front of the crowds and the most important is I do it alone without any help from anybody. It has taught me to be independent and do not rely much on the other people. Yeah!!!

Dialogue

For dialogue, I have been paired up with Maisarah or Cha’ah who is my best friend. I am so lucky to work with her as she is diligent person and also very cooperative in works. The first thing we do is we discuss what kind of story that we want to do. Then, after everybody comes up with the ideas then we choose the best idea. After that, I try to write the script based on the story that we want to work on, which is about the university students’ life conflict. After I wrote the script, I ask Cha’ah to check and edit the script if there is grammatical error or she wants to improve any lines in the script in order to become better and more interesting. After finishing editing, we divide the role and as a result, I become a protagonist while Cha’ah as an antagonist in the story. Our story is very realistic because it is about a reflection of our life which is as the university students who have the possibility to have a conflict with our roommates. Besides, it is also filled with values that we as the human beings should take them as the guidelines in leading us to have a better life. As usual, during I am memorizing the script; I will imagine the appropriate facial expressions and gestures that I have to do when I am saying my lines. After memorizing the script, we start practicing our dialogue for many times until we satisfy with our performance. Then, before we perform, Cha’ah and I pray to the God so that nothing bad will happen to us like forgetting the lines and so on. During the performance, we try our best and we keep thinking positive that we are the best. I am so happy during we are acting because we say the lines smoothly without hesitations. We put our full emotions towards our scene and we never let the audience to influence or effect our emotions. Overall, our lecturer likes our dialogue performance since we have good emotions, feelings and facial expressions. Nevertheless, I have to improve more for my voice projection as what I said sometimes is not clear been pronounced. However, we have done a great job and we satisfy with our performance. Nevertheless, if I am been given a second chance, I want to be the antagonist in this story since I like to break the rules and get tired to pretend to be kind and innocent in that story. Hehehe..

Tribal Dance

Tribal dance is the most challenging minor performance that I have since there are many things to do besides conflicts among the group members start to arise. This is because we have to find out natural stuff from natural sources such as leaves, woods and the others. It is not an easy job to get and find those things with permission. Furthermore, we have to get them in a big amount since we want to use that natural stuff for producing sounds, music and costumes and also in making masks. There are many stages of making mask and it is quite complicated. It requires a full of commitment and responsibility from each member of the group. If not all the things that we are supposed to do will not be completed or finished. Thus, it is physically and mentally challenge for us who do not have any experience with this tribe’s things. In my opinion, this minor performance has taught us many things. For instance, we have to be creative in order to produce our own sounds, music, dance steps, tribe’s language and also costumes. That is why we are given two weeks to accomplish this kind of task as it is complicated. After we generate the ideas, we start to work on it and get the sources for our stuff that we are going to use during the performance. Even there are some conflicts in my group for this time, but they are professional during accomplishing the task. This is kind of attitude that makes me respect my group members. Whatever we do we will do together and also listen to the other opinions in order to improve our works. In this minor performance, I am holding a character as the daughter of the head of village, who has been admired by two men from that village. What makes our story line is interesting is because we have included a scene of fighting and also there is an element of humor. As a result, many people enjoy with our performance since our tribe is quite unique and different with the other groups especially when I act giddy in that tribe. Luckily, I am wearing a mask, so nobody will see my face during the performance. Although, there are some mistakes in our tribe dance, but we still try our best to do it. Moreover, our masks have restricted our voice projection, so most sounds that we produce through mouths are not really clear enough to be heard by the crowds. Anyway, we enjoy with our performance on that day.

A Scene from Blythe Spirit

For this task, I have been in group with Priya and Mohana. They are really good friends since we have worked together for many years since we enter this course. Thus, we know everybody’s capability and it is quite easy for us to give a role based on their characteristics. I am holding a character as Ruth, while Priya as Charles and Mohana as Elvira. This task is challenging to me since I am not only required to remember about my lines but also have to remember about the other characters’ lines. During I am remembering my lines I also have imagined what kind of facial expressions and gestures that I should do in certain parts of lines or dialogue. This is because in this task or mini scene I have to deal or communicate with the other two characters and I have to know what I am supposed to do when the other characters give certain reactions to me. Besides that, I also have to get ready with what the other characters will do or react in certain situations. This is more difficult rather than doing monologue and dialogue. After we know our role in this scene, we start to memorize our scripts and imagine all the actions and reactions that we are supposed to do in that scene. Besides that, we also try to find out any props and costumes that are required for this scene. This is because props and costumes also play an important role in creating environment for the scene. After memorizing the scripts, a day before the real performance, we start to practice it together by using the props. We practice it for many times until we satisfy with our acting. This is because we believe that practice makes perfect. Moreover, each of us is free to give our comments and critiques for the good of our group. We are really focused on voice projection, gestures, facial expressions and also the role turn-taking in the scene. During the real performance, I am quite nervous even I am performed in a group since there are competitions among the groups. This factor motivates me to do better than them. Luckily, I am not forgetting my scripts and this is what I scare of. The other two characters also have done a good job. I am happy to work with Priya and Mohana since they are very good in doing any works or tasks. I love my group performance! Yahoooo!!!

Major Theatre; The Replacement

For the major theatre, the script has been written by Priya and she has divided the roles in the story based on everybody’s capability in acting and expressing their feelings. At first, Priya asks me to be Peter, who is a policeman, Rudolf’s friend. However, when we ask our lecturer’s opinion, she suggests that I am better to be Helga de Cruz, who is an old crazy woman, Rusell’s mother. At the beginning, I am not agree with what my lecturer has said, but when I think carefully and imagined to be Peter, I think I suit better to be Helga. This is due to I have a good emotion and facial expression to be the old crazy woman. Unfortunately, my physical has restricted me from being a guy. Nevertheless, I am happy to hold a character as Helga since in reality, I am also crazy. Even Helga does not say too much in this story, but it is not easy to bring her character. This is because I have to get the feeling by imagining that I am in the same boat with her. I have to exaggerate everything that I do on the stage in terms of voice projection, facial expressions and gestures. Besides, all the movement that we do on the stage will be interpreted by the audience as the message or clues of what the actors try to say. All of us feel very nervous in performing our play since this is our first stage performance in front of the big crowd. That is why we hope that during that night we will have the best performance compare to the other groups. As a result, almost everyday we go for practicing even we are tired by having the class. Unfortunately, we are not as busy as the other groups who are busy in making their props. This is because we minimize our use of props and we do not spend much of money in buying costumes like the other groups. Most of the props and costumes we take from home or borrow from the other people except for our angel’s wings. During the dress rehearsal, I think we are the group which gives the best performance for two nights. Maybe it is because we have been prepared for the setting either for back stage and also front stage. Nevertheless, our real performance is not the best as our performance during the dress rehearsal due to the presence of many people which is beyond of our expectation. However, many people have said that my individual performance as the crazy mother is better compare to last dress rehearsal since I have added my lines and also improve more for my part. As I know, many people enjoy with our performance on that night as the story is easy to be understood by people who comes from all walks of life. Although there many difficulties and challenges that hunt my group, but we still compromise in our works and we never let personal problems give us burden in order to give the best performance during that night. Finally, our dream has been come through and fulfilled by the God. No Pain No Gain.
Congratulations to Fusion Incorporated!

Today is the dress rehearsal day and it was a mess. Everything was unorganized because of the bad planning. Ira and the other tried their best to reorganize things. Sadly, our group did not manage to perform tonight because of the time management. Some of the groups are taking a longer time to prepare and bring their props onto the stage. We were all prepared but yeah, do it tomorrow girls. Never mind, perhaps tomorrow would be better. But something interesting happen at the Auditorium today. People didn’t recognized me, including Pn Jue! Haha that’s weird right?? Pn Jue said that she likes my make-up. I did look like a guy. I didn’t make up much. Just a little mustache, that’s all. Thanks to Faiq for all of our help for my group and my theatre class. You really helped a lot dear!

Second Day Rehearsal

Today is the second day of the rehearsal. And luckily today is much better than yesterday. I guess finally they managed to reorganize all of the things back. We managed to perform and the feedback was great! They like our story and I did well on my role as Peter Hatcher. They re’s still some people who didn’t recognize me. Where were they yesterday? Em today Faiq didn’t help us because he got class and I know he didn’t like the mess like yesterday to happen again today. Luckily it didn’t.

Final Performance

We did it! We were scared, but we did it. There were few errors, such as Linda came across the other part of the setting on the stage without realizing it. Maybe she was so into her character as the mad women Helga that she forgot there were two different setting on the stage. And I remembered someone telling me that my voice was not loud in the beginning of the scene. In the last scene where I shot Russell Hawkins, I’m supposed to show Rupert Hawskins the wallet that fall from Russell’s pocket. I need to change to my police uniform, but Ca’ah was already on stage. She forgot I need to be on the scene also. So I kind of ran out to the front stairs and button my uniform there. Thanks God I was wearing another shirt inside. Then I realized that I forgot to take the wallet with me! So instead of using the wallet, I used my hand phone and for the calling the police scene, I used my hand! I don’t have any more hand phone with me! Never mind, that wouldn’t hurt us much right? I believe that I have done a well done job as Peter Hatcher on that night. But somehow I think that I was better during the rehearsal day. Peter Hatcher is more realistic on the rehearsal night. But anyhow, I have done my best. My deepest thanks to my group members for all the helps that I couldn’t possibly get from others, to Pn Juridah for all the guidance, to my buddy group Enjit-Enjit Semut Production, and to my fellow classmates. Last but not least, thanks to my dearest Faiq for the help, support, guidance and understanding.

Sound Story. The first minor performance and the first assignment that i ever did in a very large group - a group of seven. When I knew that we had to do sound story, the first sound that struck my mind was the sound of war, perhaps because it's easy to produce. But the challenge did not end with producing it, but whether others can recognize or notice to sound that we're making.

We did agree with the sound of war but then decided to change it at the very last minute since we got intel that a lot of other groups are doing the same sound. So we changed it to sound of a nightmare. Others did manage to guess the sound so I think that task is a success although it was changed at very last minute. We did learn our lesson though, because everything went a bit haywire before the performance. But luckily the task is a success.

Rhythm and movement. Things went crazy in our group because Manesha is the only one who has experience in dancing. Though she’s good at it, she didn’t do much for the choreography part. Maybe because we all are a bunch of horrible dancers and cant do much help about it. 4days to performance day, and we still didn’t have anything yet, not the music, choreograph, or even the concept. All of other groups were training hard while we kept meeting and thinking what to do. Things were really crazy back then – absentees pissed us of, chatting and bitching in the middle of discussion certainly did not make things any easier for us.

2days before the D-day, we agreed on performing the retro dance as it is easy for us to cope. Every one of us enjoyed the task and performed happily. As for me, I was so embarrassed to dance in front of my group members, let alone in front of everybody! When I was performing, some of my friends keep calling my name and I couldn’t remember just how much swear words did I said during the dance. Thank god things went well and if I were to perform like that again, (errr..hopefully I don’t have to) I wish I can be more laid back and just enjoy the dance.

RHYTHM AND MOVEMENT
Rhythm and movement…….sounds very smooth and nice. Yeah! Exactly, those words are really nice to be listen to. But, to make it? Extremely hard. It’s all about dancing with the rhyme of music. Can I do that? It may look weird and people will have a very big laugh at me. I am not kind of dancer’s posture and obviously SIZE..Hehehehe..But, I have no reason to say no for this task. So, let’s dance together! Unfortunately for our group because we don’t have people who are used with dancing. All of us are ‘zero’ in dancing. We started our discussion on the Saturday morning, around 10am and we began to get a few steps around 3pm in the evening. It is very hard actually to think about the choreography of dancing. I can’t understand how people manage to get a very bombastic step? We just got a simple idea for this task. We used song from Mandy Moore; Stupid Cupid as our major performance, but before that we were performed ‘Chicken Dance’. I knew some people may think that we were doing silly movement, but that’s the only movement that we were able to get. Overall, for this task, I am totally satisfied, we have put enough effort and finally we did it very well even people say, it was silly! At least we have tried our best…..

SCULPTOR AND SCULPTURE
Puan Jue said, “One of the group members become a sculptor and creating a sculpture by using the rest of the group members. You can use the element of music and time given is not more than 10 minutes”. Can I stand still for 10 minutes and become a statue? It’s going to be a new challenge for me..heehehehe
We can choose whether we want to be clay or wood as for the material of the sculpture. All of us agreed that we choose clay, because it was easier since the sculptor could really touch us. Fahimah has become a sculptor for our group and we have decided to design a sculpture of people having their meal at the Japanese restaurant. During the practice, we have assigned the character for each of the members. Me, as a waitress and taking order from Nadia. Fara Alia as the other customer, having her meal by using chopstick and Zuwariyah as customer as well. Apart from that, Dalila became waitress who serves drink for Fara and Zuwairiyah. And last but not least, Aini become the cook for the restaurant. Well, my feeling towards this activity; to be honest, I was never expected that we will have this kind of activity, and for me, it was tremendously exciting. I wish that I can use this kind of activity with my students soon. This kind of activity able to attach students’ creativity and the same time can put them as a group and shows their cooperation towards each other.

MONOLOGUE
“Monologue?? Talking to myself in front of hundreds of people? No..no…no.. I can’t do this!”
That was my line after Pn Jue told us about our next task. Errmmm..what am I going to talk about? About myself? About others? Or else I want to become somebody that I am not managing to be?
After a few days of thinking, finally….. I have come out with something to talk about. I am going to talk about somebody who has being rejected by his boyfriend because he couldn’t accept her mother and I have named it as ‘Love, hurt…’ and for sure, this is just a make up story, there’s nothing to do with me or people around me! Actually, I really get into the character that day, I’ve been crying for the words that I have come out with. I used a Love Story instrumental as my background music.
On the day of my monologue, I’ve been commented by Pn Jue for just being static during my monologue, I don’t even make a move..hehehhe! it was a spontaneous action and i didn’t realize it, except when Pn Jue talked about it.
In the nut shell, if I were given a chance to do monologue again, I will say ‘NO’. it is not easy to talk to yourself in front of people and they all are listened to you and some people may laugh at your words! Anyway, by doing this activity, I have gained something new in my life. At least, I have an experience talking about nonsense in front of unknown people.

DIALOGUE
As for this task, me and my partner, Nadia Saizul have decided to make a dialogue about friendship, which is a common issue among people around us. So, the dialogue was about two friends, who were being argued with each other because of one person who likes to see them hated each other, but finally they managed to settle down everything and realized that they need each other even though there was somebody who try to interfere in their friendship. Through this activity, I would say that it is much-much better than monologue because at least we can share our ‘shameness’ during the presentation with our partner. In term of language teaching, I think this kind f activity is a good activity to be implemented in the secondary classroom. Why do I say so, because as we use this kind of activity, we are giving our students opportunity to generate their own idea and their creativity as well. Other than that, we are encouraging students to be more independent in their second language learning.

As for the 7th week, we were assigning with a concentration exercise where all of us have to memorize a few lines from the text given by our respective lecturer which was adapted from Blithe Spirit. I was completed this task in trio with Nadia and Fahimah, and out of nowhere, we have named this task as trilogue. I was given a role as a ghost in this task, named as Elvira. I was so lucky because among others, I was the less lines character, so it makes my life easier (that was my first thought when I got the lines….)
But, it was not as easy as I expected when in the whole slot the we have being given, the role that I played actually play an important part and the action that I should do was, I should make a lot of facial expression, gesture and most important, I have to know stage direction for the character since the character was the lesser lines’ character. Oh my God! That was tremendously hard for me to play that role actually. I have to act as an invisible character, and it was not easy to be invisible actually! During the presentation, I was the ghost with all black attire. We have to start the ‘trilogue’ twice because we were laughing at each other at the beginning of the first trial. Hehehehe..
As a conclusion, this task was quite interesting because we were given an opportunity to have different part of role. What I mean here is even though I was the lesser line character, but I have to make a lot of an adjustment with my gesture, facial expression and stage direction. So, everybody in the trio should know their character very well to make sure everything went well.

MASK MAKING
Mask making, something new and something interesting to try on. Seriously, I have no experience with mask making. I just know a few basic steps to make a mask; I never try any step in order to produce my own mask. But, in this course, I have to design and create my own mask. Actually, the mask that we have design will be used during our next task, which is tribal dance.
This activity able to attach students’ imagination and at the same time students are able to bring out their creativity.
I think this task would be nice if it is being imply to our secondary classroom language teaching.

TRIBAL DANCE

Last minor performance task, trial dance, at the very first, we don’t
Even have any idea what to do. Loafing around with my group members and start to think of what should we do for our tribal dance. Then, we started googling in the net, hope fully we find something which is applicable for our task. Hopeless..after a few hours of gooogling, we still get nothing. Then, I and my friends decided to went out to find some materials for the costume. We have a great walked around KC and we found a stem and we brought the stem to BSB. On the way to BSB, suddenly, something crushes into our mind. Why don’t we make something about cannibal…people eating people. We think that was such a good idea and we all the members in the group knew about it and everybody agreed with it. Then, we started our practice…practice again..and again…and again..until the day of performance. We did our best and everybody satisfied with it. This is the most exciting activity from the rest. I like this task very much because I can become somebody that totally out of my imagination.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE
BRAINSTORMING THE IDEA
To get the idea for our major performance, we have sit together and brainstorm some storyline. At the beginning, we have come out with a very brief and simple story, a story about friendship. But, with Pn Jue’s advise, she said that we have go for more heavy story, then we started to think in the ‘heavy’ way. Just one word come out from everyone’s mouth; a story about people who was being abused by their in- laws. Then, generating idea started.
PROCESS OF EDITING
One of the tragic moments in this whole semester was during the time of editing our script. We have gone through five times of editing before we get our final draft. There were a lot of difficulties and problems faced by my group in editing the script, in term of storyline, scene, logic of the story, and the most obvious part was language. Even Pn Jue said our language was worse until we need to find somebody else to check for the language. We asked for Jolyne’s favor to check for the language. Thanks to her. After all the difficulties ended, we finally got our final draft on the last two weeks before the night of performance.

REHEARSALS
As for the rehearsal, we just have a few times to rehearse, even less than 10 times, I think! Unfortunately for us because one of our group members was sick, so we need to find somebody to replace her. The finding process again, gave us trouble. We asked so many people, but everybody have no time to take the commitment. Most of them were willing to help, but they were lack of time. So, we just make a rehearsal with 6 members and only for a few times.
SOUNDS AND LIGHTING REHEARSAL
Our group has gone for the sound and lighting rehearsal with unfinished script. We just want to make sure the lighting and I have a new knowledge through this time of rehearsal because I’ve learn something about lighting control.

DRESS REHEARSAL
For this dress rehearsal, we went well even a bit clumsy. Thanks God, everything went well as planned. During the dress rehearsal, our nervous was like we are performing a real play.
NIGHT OF PERFORMANCE
Finally, the time has come. All the hard works have come to the end..19th October 2008, Sunday night…we have make a perfect performance. Eventhough people may see our performance with some slack, but for me, I did my best and my group members as well. We all satisfied with our performance and all the effort, the tears, the money and energy have paid that night. Besides, I would like to acknowledge our buddy group…aini, jasmine, mizah,a’an,khairil, nurul and ainil for their suppot! Last but not least, thanks to Pn Jue for your help along the journey of our theatre subject and not forgetting our classmates. I have enjoyed this subject very much!

Sculptor and sculpture. For this task, my idea was accepted by our group. Since I’m actively involved in sports, I suggest that we do something related to sports because the actions have distinct and noticeable actions. So we chose to do sculptures of people who are having beach volleyball game. Ira was chosen to be the sculptor. Basically the theme volleyball was chosen because it was easy and everybody can do the action. As for the background music, we chose the sound of waves and some chirping birds; so that it would make the scene of beach perceptible.

During the practice session, the same person keep absent and it was actually quite irritating because ONLY on the performance day will that person keep on asking how or what she should do. But we keep on practice as usual and the practice only stole a few minutes of our live and didn’t even give any big impact. But still, there is a special somebody in our group that can’t afford to loose that few minutes of her live.
So when it comes to the performance day, we all did our part and somebody had to explain all over again what to do or how to act to a certain special somebody all because she missed the practice. But the performance is a success since everybody can guess correctly what we are doing.

Monologue. My favorite task ever! I like this task a lot because it’s an individual work and when it comes to individual work, I’m the captain on board and nobody can push me around and no one can tell me what to do! I just really really love this type of task. FYI, I’m a last minute job doer (I make up the term) and when doing a group work, I just cannot be myself (last minute job doer).hehe..

So cut to the chase, I prepare no script but only have the framework in my head and when I watched others perform, Pn Ju comment on using all the space and moving around. So I decided to act as a paralyzed character so that I don’t have to move around and the concept of using all the space doesn’t apply to somebody who is paralyzed.

Well, as for somebody who didn’t prepare for the script, I did a lot of improvisation. At first it was interesting but too much of it…hurm..it’ll be boring. So I’ve learned my lesson not to go unprepared. But still, I like this performance a lot.

Dialogue. This is a pair work and my partner this time is Agnes. We prepared for the script together and discussed properly what role should we be taking. We chose to act out something some may consider silly – a fight over a remote control, which normally always happen between immature housemates or siblings.
But we didn’t practice a lot. So when it comes to performance day, our act was “plain and ‘bersahaja’” said Pn Ju. I really don’t know how to act and maybe that’s the problem. Or is it lack of practice be the problem?? Perhaps it is so. But when I watch others who had performed, I really envy them a lot because they can just be into the character and start acting out like nobody’s watching. In short, their acting seems so greatly realistic. I wish my self consciousness wasn’t that high so that I can perform better. Sigh…

Tribal Dance. Just when self consciousness issue wasn’t settled yet, came the tribal dance. But this time around, there’s a mask to hide all the anxiety and high level of self consciousness. To hide beneath the mask, and be who u desire being – I really like the idea.

Before planning the dance, we must complete doing the mask first as it is the very first step of completing the task. Honestly, I didn’t like this stage because it was time and focus consuming. Which part that I think are time and focus consuming?? Erm..let me see.. EVERYTHING? Yeah.. it was everything about the mask making. From a single paper shredding activity to painting the mask, they all require high level of attention but when the mask is ready to be worn, the satisfaction that I get from it cannot be describe by mere words. All the excruciating hard work was like totally paid off with the birth of the mask.

When it comes to the dance part, ughh.. we really did squeeze our brain out just to get an idea (figuratively speaking of course). But when somebody is absent during the meeting, we were a bit agitated and pissed off because then we have lesser brain to squeeze. What more if that somebody is the same somebody who keep missing our meeting… But, what the heck, we really don’t care because without that somebody, we actually can pull everything out. In short, I’m satisfied with the dance because that was really the best that we can do.

This time around I did my concentration exercise which was more like a dialogue between three people with Farihan and Liyana. The preparation towards it was done in a separate manner – we all memorize the script individually and before two days of the performance day, we gathered and start acting out our lines. Actually Farihan is the one who said that we need to practice together and if it was me alone doing the decision, I think no practice or whatsoever will be done in not more than one day before the performance day.

I had some trouble acting out my character because I always forget when my line was. See, the problem with me was not about what to say, but when to say my line. I memorized all of if but I just failed to remember when to say it. So Farihan helped me a lot since we practiced together. Liyana too help me improves and always keep reminding me when my line is. So I can’t be thankful enough for having partners like them. I’ve learned a lot from them and I think without them being my partners, maybe I would fail this task because this task really need me to focus and they have helped me to focus and concentrate on my lines.
